Good tip Brian. You would naturally assume that anything on the MS store would be screened and deemed safe. Guess it's just a matter of $$$. Shame on Microsoft, as they are bastardizing their name👎. Thanx Mate 👍👍👍

Most of the "tips" in this video is borderline nonsense, baseless claims, and exactly the same for MS Store as Google Play store and Apple App Store.

It is a good idea to check to see when the program/app was released or last updated because some apps first came out for Windows 8 when the store was introduced and may not have been updated or could not work on Windows 11

I was looking at "Files" on the MS the other day and they wanted $13 for an open source program LOL Unfortunately a lot of the garbage software on the store can be doctored too, so reading what permissions and functionality it has may not tell the full story. At the very least read the reviews which will give a better indication. And considering the fee's MS charge developers for certification of heir software, there really shouldn't be an excuse to have dodgey software in the store. Then again, Windows is just one giant piece of malware software these days anyway.

Lot's of nonsense for every sensible part here sadly. First of all, this is much the same as on iOS and Android, apps asking for to much permissions. But for example, 4:40 "Access your internet, networks and act as a server", this is an online game, how would you play an online game if it's not going to access your network and internet connection? If a game enables the user to create a local game session and have other players connect to this session, how would this be managed without the game acting as a server? Also, often content sharing etc. is facilitated by local server functionality. Minecraft is another example of a game that "acts like a server", would you not install that? And then just generality throwing out "these apps can have trojans and back doors" is a little to simple. First off, downloading from the internet directly is way more risky as there is no safety mechanisms what so ever there, compared to MS Store. And MS Store has evolved considerably from the first iteration until now. That's not to say there cannot be any risky software on the store, as is the case with Apple Appstore and Google Play as well, so while ppl should be aware, one should not just say everything is risky and out to infect your computer. And, taking an app with lots of adds and a some negative reviews, and then making correlations between this and "could have all kind of backdoors and trojans" is just dumb. Yes, adds are annoying, but how many free games on phones does not have a shitload of adds in them. Why would you expect the MS store to be different? In most cases, reading the description and details is less of an telltale indication of malicious intent, you can't really tell. Sure kids can spend money if you add your card without any security, again, just like on Google and Apple. MS has a very good My Family function which can be managed through web or app where you can create safe environments for your kids on PC and XBOX, and which now includes lots of functionality for both Android and iOS as well. On Microsoft Family you can just add you kid as a family member, and then on the PC, in settings, just choose from a list which family members should be allowed to access this computer, and they log in with their MS account. You can easily add money to the kids account, and if you add $10 then that's the maximum amount the kid can use. MS is much better at this than Apple and Google (unless they improved their services dramatically over the last few years). And the fact there are one star apps, or apps that cost money on the store, again, so what? Is this not the case with other stores? Or THE INTERNET in general? Just don't buy them. Jeez. And again, "probably cause damage to your system", you just throw around baseless accusations. Sure, they are probably shit, but they existed long before the store. Such a video is probably ok in it self, but the angling was way off on this one...

I don't think I've ever used the MS store for anything really. I am not surprised to see garbage slip in but that usually comes with f2p games and the likes. You'd do good to stay away from such content in the first place. Then again you won't see me playing any f2p on the phone either. People in general are gullible and easily exploited by fancy graphics and bold statements.
