You've been testing AP and FSD a lot this year. I would enjoy a short compilation of the big take away and visible improvements through the year, mixed in a way that we see the incremental improvements. I think it would help people to understand the rate at which this thing improved in a single year. (this might be a lot of editing work though)

We must be watching different vids. It handles a lot of easy stuff well, but it is screwing up a ton of the more important stuff that is more dangerous like left turns. Stopping in the middle of intersections? Randomly slowing down or swerving between lanes as it decides to randomly abandon a lane change? That is completely unacceptable and wouldn’t be boring at all for you or any drivers on the road with you.

Speed limit signs. Ask a trooper: "Question: When the speed limit is changing on a road, does the new speed limit start at the sign, or does it start when you can see the sign? Answer: The speed limit zone area becomes effective >>at the point you reach the sign.

  • @bburton333

    @bburton333

    3 жыл бұрын

This has been a problem for years with all AP 2 versions. A speed change always happen slightly after the sign. They need to implement some kind of look-ahead logic to slow down before reaching a lower speed limit sign so the car is going the correct speed by the time it reaches the sign. To implement this so the car slows down smoothly in time is non-trivial.

Great production Chris! Looks like those turns were really almost effortless (angling). The acceleration, lack thereof, and speed selection seems to be the biggest problem with the turns from watching. I've also seen in a few other Beta 8 vids that it is missing some red lights (possibly when two are consecutive/in the same view). Thanks for speeding up between commentary and the insightful reasoning behind why you think the car is doing what it's doing and why you intervened.

another fun video. If you're looking for no right on red signs, there are some in the bloomfield hills/bloomfield township area. Assuming they haven't been removed (i haven't been home since September 2019). Turning right onto eastbound Big Beaver from northbound Woodward is a classic. Cars go through that one all the time (after a Michigan left coming south on woodward). There's one turning right onto westbound Long Lake Road from southbound Telegraph. There used to be a similar one on southbound woodward, but i don't remember if they removed it or not. Anyway, there are a bunch in that area. Many drivers get caught out at them. I personally hate right turn on red, so i love the intersections where it's not allowed!

Glad to see FSD beta improving with the update. You have a lot of blinking traffic lights where you live. Here in Melbourne, Australia (and the rest of the country as far as I have experienced it), traffic lights only blink when they are faulty, which is rare. I think there are some other aspects of our roads that might make FSD beta easier to deploy here (although the smaller volume of Teslas and thus local data will be a down side). We don't have the "waiting for your turn" thing; one road always has right of way except for roundabouts. We have only occasional "turn on red" here (none in Melbourne, as far as I am aware). And we always have a line on the road at a stop or give way (= yield) sign and it is right at the intersection, so no need to creep.

15:45 You say tiny bit delayed. However, in most places the technical rule is that you can't enter an all way stop until any traffic passing in front of you has completely cleared the intersection (not just cleared your path). It looks like the moment the back of the turning car crosses the crosswalk, the steering wheel moves and it sets off. I'd say this was EXACTLY on time with the precision only a computer can accomplish.

Imagine being that dense and honking at a Tesla, most people know to turn left from the turning lane, I would have given the benefit of the doubt and assumed it was in FSD and clearly made a mistake. Actually tbh even if it wasn't a Tesla, the driver clearly clued in to what was going on and went into the turning lane, no harm no foul. So what? The driver behind had to slow down a bit, I mean I get it though, it does take a lot to hit the accelerator and speed back up 🤦🏼‍♂️. Great videos mate, keep it up!

Hey man idk if you want to do this, but I would recommend turning on your hazard lights while testing fsd beta. It just let's people be aware something's going on, and they probably won't honk at you so you can let it do its thing :)

Can you please write to Santa Elon and ask him to release this to everyone? Or at least to me? Haha. Great video, and it's awesome to hear your perspective of how the updates have been evolving over time!

If you set your default AP speed to "current speed" autopilot takes your current speed, but if you keep the AP the handle down when you double press it the second time , it then takes the detected speed limit as AP.

Here in Canada, I have noticed that our lame version of FSD (autopilot) has issues at the beginning of passing lanes on 2 lane highways depending on the angle of the entry. If you enter the passing lane area and the passing lane sort of split your lane, the car partially goes into the passing lane then abruptly turns back into the right labe which you entered on. I have been trying to manually intevene so the team might see it, but it is actually unsafe on snowy roads. Interestes if your beta car handles these right or more smoothly.

You've got some really challenging locations there. No wonder the other drivers sometimes act confused too.

I don't know... I grew up in a house with a steep driveway on the inside of a 90-degree blind curve on a 55 mph highway that required an AWD vehicle to exit in the winter. Nothing in this video strikes me as particularly difficult by comparison.

Hey Chris, just had an observation here. Usually the dark screen mode makes visualizations easier to see, so maybe change from Auto to Dark mode when recording videos. I think this would really improve the clarity of the image. Thanks!

Seems really good...Our biggest problem with driving places is every area ends up with unique roads, signs & traffic lights. Some places have horizontal red lights others use posts. Some yellow lights are placed area as a caution to slow down suggesting light is red or about to change although you can't see that far over the hill or around a curve. Then you get random yellow lights around school zones. Be good if we could just have 1 road system, but everywhere we go, one way streets, multi lanes/ramps/exits, unique arrows/lanes/lights time rules for everything from turn on red to parking, etc. Even construction zones some have portable red light stations, stopsigns with a person directing. Sometimes the people just wave a flag or hand motions. There isn't consistency, gravel roads, dirt roads, brick roads. Must be difficult to get a computer to recognize everything alongside placement & colors. Then they must apply all these calibrations to weather & location, being international whole set of different rules apply.

Thanks, man. Looks promising. But I'm from Europe and boy you do have much space on the road. I think the car needs to get way better with recognizing narrow distances. In inner cities and residential areas over here you often have barely room for 2 cars and frankly need to stop and wait out the ongoing traffic at a spot with just slightly more space (narrower parked car, driveway). But that's also dependent of whether the oncoming car is a tiny one or a wide one, just not much margin to navigate on. Since watching your FSD clips I realize how many situations are super difficult and frankly are solved by hand gestures here (could flash the lights though). Also in-lane parked cars, where you have to creep forward to detect oncoming traffic. No biggie if the road is wide enough to give oncoming traffic room to maneuver. But here you often lean to the edge of the windscreen to peak out. The camera in the middle of the windscreen has no chance there. The car will have blocked the oncoming lane by the time it sees something. I think cameras should have been left and right upper corner of the screen... And I don't think that bouncing radar under the parked car will be reliable enough. K. [Typos]

I love the scientific mindset of counting the other cars bad driving mistakes while watching the tesla for mistakes. Another way would be to get a professional driver's license tester to estimate driving mistakes of average drivers that they know.

Can you incorporate right repeater camera footage when the car does turns? Would be nice to see the clearance to the curb/gutter Doesn't need to be super synchronous, just let it play after the turn is completed :)

So per other FSD Beta testers, they have shown that it does recognize no turn on red signs in their testing. I've seen a few videos where the car will not turn on red if that sign is present. They have shown and talked about it, it just does not currently have a visualization for the sign, but it does respond appropriately to it.

I think that slowing down in the middle of turning at unprotected left turn isn't necessarily a wrong move from autopilot. Here in Thailand we literally have to drive into the road and yield to the ongoing traffic in the lane I merge into. I get that it isn't the way people drive in the US but eventually this FSD feature will be released on tesla cars all around the world where in some countries driving recklessly is a rule to actually be able to drive there 😄 Well anyways nice videos I enjoy them very much and I had been your fan before you had this beta FSD enabled on your car. Keep up with the good work and happy holidays!
