Better than Fuel Injection for your YZ125. Smartcarb SC2 brings the Yamaha YZ125 into the modern era

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Everything you need to know about the Smartcarb SC2 with specific details around the configuration and installation on a 2024 YZ125 (Anniversary Edition!). Is it better than Fuel Injection? Maybe! Its an amazing looking, precision fuel metering device that is for sure.
I take you through everything I have learned, including the installation through to the initial startup with the 36mm Smartcarb SC2.
30% better fuel economy, 10% more horsepower, better low to mid power, toolless adjustability, auto temperature and elevation compensation, no fuel pump, no fancy electronics, just simple and precise air/fuel metering to feed your YZ125 2 stroke!
Its not cheap! But is it worth it? I am gonna find out.
This Smartcarb, combined with the full FMF exhaust and VHM cylinder head with SX dome should prove to be a very capable 125 and complement the already great handling and suspension of this motorcycle.

Hey did you end up trimming the inside of the boot at all? Just got mine and contemplating on cutting a bit out

I probably didn't need to, but I did trim a little just to be safe. If you take your airbox/subframe off, you can mount the carb to the airboot. If you spin it around, you can see if the rear ports clear the inner lip. Also, once installed, your shock spring will rub slightly on the airboot at the very top of the stroke. Some are sanding a spot down to clear it, but I have not found a need too.

@@GOATbro_Australiaalright sweet thanks for the fast response I’ll run with it I’m sure some 3m tape or something would be a little extra barrier but once you sit on it I assume there’s daylight

But why ? So you do y have any bottom ? It’s already a 125 with the easiest carb to tune

SmartCarbs are tuned by hand, without tools, in seconds. You don't even have to get off the bike to adjust it. There is no easier carb to tune.

@@ndn2589 dude it literally takes less than 10 seconds. And once it's tuned it stays tuned for much wider elevation and temperature changes compared to conventional carburetors.

Did you have problems with the airboot rubbing? Just put it on my 2023 125x and it’s rubbing. Pretty disappointed lol all that money just for it not to fit properly

If the bike is on a stand and the rear suspension is fully extended, it might rub slightly. The actual length of the carb is the same as stock when I measured, so I am not really sure why it would rub, but yes when the suspension is fully extended it seems to rub slightly. Probably not much of a concern. Maybe contact SC and see if they have more insight into this.

@@delayeddeyhaus7720 SmartCarbs are slightly longer end-to-end than stock due to routing the vent passages internally. There's only so small it can be shrunk before running out of room for those passageways. That said the longer length is typically a non-issue. Slight airboot/shock spring contact is permissible and will only result in the boot shining up over time. The spring doesn't move enough to cause any actual wearing through of the boot and is at its worst at full extension up on the stand. Removing the reed spacer, if present, will shift the carb forward and away from the spring. In general we don't recommend running the Boysen RAD valve in conjunction with a larger-than-stock diameter rear shock spring. Doing so really limits the amount of room for the carb. Happy to answer any questions!

@@SmartCarbFuelSystems ya I ended up sanding down the outside a bit but stopped and just threw it on. Once I sit on the bike there’s not much contact if any. Started 2nd kick and it runs better just out the package. Still not perfect but I’m gonna let it break in a bit before lean it out a click or 2
