Better than Apollo: The World's Hottest 4 Channel Recording Interface!!

There's a reason I keep an RME Babyface in my travel bag...... And why it's better than an Apollo in one critical way.
Disclosure: I borrowed this unit from RME. No money has changed hands, and I don't get to keep it.

RME is great! I recently run into problems with driver support on my old interfaces (Focusrite Saffire pro 40, etc,...) Instead of putting these old but good sounding preamps to the scrapyard, i found the RME Digiface USB with 4 ADAT Ins and Outs which gives old gear another life via Toslink. Madiface is also great! Drivers are incredible and RME offers a long term support!

I was torn between this and the Presonus Quantum 2626 (both at similar price points) when recently shopping for an interface. In the end I went with the Quantum because it's also zero latency and offers 8 inputs and wordclock as well as midi and lightpipe. I guess I chose functionality over portability? In any event... I'm happy with my choice (seems like there's honestly no wrong choice between these 2 options, just feature sets that work better for individual needs) and think the Q2626 is also worth checking out for any home studio.

I think the baby face is awesome. I was using it exclusively for a little bit. I did switch over to the Apollo X4 earning one from spiffs. I have to say, there was a difference in the low end during playback. The DAC On the X4 and especially the rack series with the better clock. Just seemed to be more present in the lows and low kids. I still think my RME sounded great but it’s worth noting. Also, UAD does provide way more features and DSP options but total mix has some cool advantages as well. I think it’s a bit of a trade off and I have been impressed with both. So bottom line, if you are a Mac user, they are both excellent and worth weighing the differences to see which suits your workflow best. Good video. Now I have to decide if I want to go fireface UFX or Apollo x16/x8

Every time I hear the opening intro it reminds me of the music for Twisted Metal 3, almost the same tone and likely tuning

The MOTU M4 for $229 has loopback, just saying. I know, I know - comparing Lambo's to Ford's, but just making a quick point. Love my little motu by the way.

First heard about RME from metalheads raving about them been the best nice to hear a pro confirm it 👍 Couldn’t afford back in the day but finally got the ucx ii & it definitely goes up to 11 🤟🏻

Why is there so much noise floor present when speaking into the sm7b? Seems really noisy for such an expensive interface.

Yes. 1/4" for one pair and 1/8" for the other. Different but better than only one.

Hi Glenn, little correction, the other cable is USB-C and not Thunderbolt, the Babyface only supports USB (and still has better latency than some Thunderbolt interfaces!)
