Better Aircraft - Cirrus SR22T vs Cessna TTx

Hey guys welcome to a brand new video. Today we will be taking a look at 2 very stylish airplanes. This will be our first time featuring both aircraft in this video on the channel. Our first aircraft is the Cessna TTx. The next aircraft is the The Cirrus SR22T.
Lets start by taking a short look at the history of the Cessna TTx. The aircraft actually was not originally built by Cessna Aircraft It was actually built by Columbia Aircraft and sold as the Columbia 400. Then Cessna eventually bought Columbia Aircraft and the aircraft became the Cessna 400 with was sold as the Cessna 400 TT Corvalis. Then finally in 2011 Cessna announced that an upgraded model of the aircraft with more advanced avionics and interior. The model would be called the Cessna TTx Model T240 which is the most recent model that we are comparing today. Sadly the aircraft was only manufactured up to 2018 when Cessna announced that production would be ending. The good news for those of you that would still be interested in purchasing the aircraft there is a really good used market for the aircraft when you include all the older names of the aircraft that I mentioned. Cessna says that they designed the aircraft around the pilot. They partnered ergonomics with technology with the intention to have a comfortable yet powerful experience of flight. The Cessna TTx was made with a stronger, lighter all composite wing and body that would provide incredible stability, durability and strength. All this partnered with High-Speed Fairing that we designing aerodynamically for maintenance simplicity and minimal drag.
Now onto our next aircraft which is still produced to this day. The SR22T or Turbo. One of the main things Cirrus has always been able to do is seamlessly integrate style, luxury, technology and convenience across all of its aircraft and the Cirrus SR22T is no different. The aircraft has also always been known as the "plane with the parachute" and that seems to be one of the top things that set the aircraft apart from others in both wow factor and safety. I'll admit I'd be comfortable flying in just about any aircraft but there is no doubt having a parachute makes it a lot easier! BUT in additional to that the aircraft features more impressive safety features such as STALL & SPIN PROTECTION. Its called ESP short for Electronic Stability & Protection system. If the aircraft has unusual flight attitudes whether or not the autopilot is engaged the system passively corrects them without feeling as though you, the pilot, lost control.
The flight deck of the Cirrus SR22T features Cirrus Perspective+ with Synthetic Vision, Satellite Weather, Teerrain Awareness, Climate Control, Autopilot and the famous Side Yoke configuration.
On the other hand the flight deck of the Cessna TTx features Garmin’s G2000 Avionics Suite which is an Advanced flight deck for high-performance piston aircraft. It also comes with high resolution cockpit displays. Some standard features include Automatic Flight Guidance and Control Systems, Weather, charts, traffic, terrain and Global connectivity options.
Hope you guys enjoyed and If you did make sure to subscribe and ring the notification bell so that you are notified when I upload more awesome videos!

Everyone defaults to speed but I highly suggest you look at useful load as well, in this case the TTX falls FAR short. The TTX has a total useful load of 1070, fill it with fuel and you are left with a useful load of 458 pounds, or two adults and bags. The SR-22 has an total useful load of 1250, fill it with fuel and you are are left with a useful load of 698 pounds. It is even more pronounced when you calculate four adults and bags for a trip. For the TTx take four adults - 4 X 170 + 4 X 30 (bags) and you are at 800 pounds leaving 270 for gas (45 gallons). For the SR-22 - 4 X 170 + 4 X 30 (bags) and you are at 800 pounds leaving 450 pounds for gas (75 gallons). The SR-22 can one hop 600 miles while the TTx will be looking for gas right after takeoff.

The TTx is cramped and lacks a chute. It was also far behind in fit and finish and had a higher price tag. Thus it is no longer made.

I made a decision 3 years ago based on safety data. Started with a Columbia 350 to try a for a year then stepped up to a 2008 Cessna 400 (Best year, my opinion) and love it! Earned my instrument in this aircraft and working on my Commercial. Very stable and predictable.

@@anthonycyr9657 The G2000 came out in 2010, it is the G1000 with fewer buttons and a touch FMS panel . The CPUs are the same, the software the same (again, antiquated). The NXi came out in 2018 and gets faster dual-core processors (4x faster), LED back-lit brighter screens, wireless connectivity (uploading flightplans and downloading flight data), reduced power consumption. The NXi also has new software providing advanced visual aids for landing and terrain mapping. All the big boys are installing it including Cessna for the 172/182/206 and Caravan, Beech King Air and Bonanza, Diamond and of course Cirrus.

Comments: 450 hours per year is probably much higher than typical use. The TTX useful load is a significant downside, only partially offset by its higher top speed. The Cirrus parachute really isn’t a big factor in my evaluation. The single I had for 19 years was a Piper Saratoga. It was a 1981 model with retractable gear and turbocharged Lycoming engine. It was not as fast as either of these airplanes but it’s useful load and rear club seating was very attractive. However, it’s definitely the case that Cirrus has blown the market away when it comes to high performance singles. In my opinion, they should consider a pressurized piston single. I’m not a fan of the Vision Jet though, for similar money, there are used light jets and turboprops with much better range and equal or better speed.

Prospective buyers need to know that the Cirrus ballistic parachute requires replacement of the pyrotechnic line cutters every 6 yrs. and replacement of the entire ballistic parachute every 10 yrs. These obligatory costs are far from trivial. Even a remanufactured ballistic parachute costs more than $10,000 without installation.

The TTx is a defunct aircraft and no longer made. The TTx was never equipped with a BRS chute...and the seats are laughably crude. Cessna claimed back in the day the TTx was 10kts faster than the SR22T at max cruise...but that claim was never verified independently. Both planes have the same gross weight of 3600 lbs. and use the same TSIO-550 Continental...the TTx the C version (310hp), the SR22T the K version (315hp). Takeoff distance for the TTx is 1355ft, the SR22T is 850ft. The TTx also requires manual adjustment of the constant speed prop, the Cirrus automates that function. I would agree with this for the most part. I know someone who owned the Corvialus and said its maintenance costs were sky high (they recently sold it). I think Cirrus definitely kept up with the times and made it more worth it if you are looking for this specific type of aircraft. I would agree a nice used twin with aftermarket glass could be had for the same price as a used TTx and would be a better buy if someone wanted something used.

I just wish the Cirrus looked as nice, was built as strong (utility category), and could glide as far as the TTX and didn't have sketchy stall characteristics which is why it needed a parachute and is the only way they could get the plane certified. Though, I agree with you that the cirrus is superior. It has a few very important features and specs that make it the best seller.

@@rileybullen4961 Cirrus looks better than the TTX...The TTX has that horrific front nose gear that looks like a crutch with a tire on it. And a fin off the bottom of the tail thata breaks the line. TTX also has a boring straight wing tip while the cirrus has an elegant winglet swoop (that also serves to save fuel). You don't need a glide distance when you have a chute...which the TTX also lacks.

@@gbigsangle3044 Really? Most people I talk to say the ttx is more aesthetically pleasing than the Cirrus, specifically referring to the ugly nose gear on the Cirrus! And glide ratio is more important than you think, especially when you consider the most dangerous part of a flight is right after takeoff. You can’t use the parachute until you’re at least 600 AGL. And then if you stall a Cirrus that low, you’re done. Stability is horrible in the Cirrus. In the ttx you have enough stability and control to roll 30 to 30 degrees while in a stall. And the cockpit is only an inch bigger horizontally and vertically in the cirrus while their seats are the most uncomfortable seats I have ever sat in because of the honeycomb design they use to cushion the impact when using the parachute. But for uneducated pilots the Cirrus is a great plane, honestly!

@@rileybullen4961 You must be talking to people who don't own an aircraft or are flying clunky old Cessnas or Pipers.. The Cirrus nose gear is graceful, swooping...the TTX nose gear looks like something that will break the first gutter it rolls over. No one can glide from 500 feet to anywhere except straight ahead. The chute height is dependent on model, the SR20 and SR22 its 400 feet, the SR22T is 600 feet. You get to 600 feet before leaving the end of most runways in the turbo. Either way no aircraft is safe if the engine quits on takeoff. The TTX has no stability in a stalled turn...that is silly. No plane does. The Cirrus seats are the most sophisticated in the industry, leather, made to take 22g forces and designed to rise as you pull them forward for shorter people. It is the sophisticated pilot that owns a Cirrus. You should remember, the TTX FAILED in the marketplace. Two reasons. 1. it lacked a chute and 2. it had an ineffecient wing design and was MORE EXPENSIVE for the same or less plane. You seem unable to discern the subtle issues needed to judge aircraft. There are 8000 piston single Cirrus flying, how many TTX are out there? Less than 100.

@@gbigsangle3044 you glide nowhere but straight ahead yes, but you’re much less likely to spin from stalling after takeoff in a ttx is the point I was trying to make. Have you ever flown a cirrus? Sat in one? And the wing on either of these aircraft is designed for different purposes. One is not better than the other. I’m just stating things I like about the ttx more than the cirrus. I never said it was overall better than the cirrus. I love the avionics of the cirrus but if the ttx came with the Garmin NXI I would prefer a ttx even without the parachute, personally.
