I got a Betta from someone that was almost dead. It's eyes looked like they were going to fall out and its fins were rotting away, I used Melafix in an extremely small dose for the recommended number of days on the bottle and he doesn't even look like the same fish anymore, he is 95% better and it's been about a month.

Anybody reading this BettaFix is fine but you need to do something’s. First only use half or slightly under the recommended amount. Second don’t do daily doses just change the water(90%) every 2-3 days and add a little more. Third use a bubble mechanism so the oil film don’t build at the top and your betta will breath better. It also helps to just circulate the medicine. Fourth and optional I use aquarium salt as well. I also use a 1 gallon quarantine tank. Betta is happy and healed after two weeks :) Hope this helps somebody!

If anybody is looking for an answer in the comments, don't waste your time. There aren't any. Just opinions and they all differ.

With the Bettafix, i reckon it depends how well your fish takes it. I used it for about 3 days. And made sure it was exact measurements, etc. my betta looked SICK and unwell so i had to clean out the tank, havent used it since and his been completely fine. Ive just added salt in the water and made sure the tanks clean.

I was away on vacation, and my betta got sick from dirty water. Lady at pets mart told yesterday to use this beta fix. Just after one use, I can tell betta is doing better. Its swimming again, and not breathing heavily as it did before. And you are saying it's not safe for betta? Just wondering why you said it?

You can use it it works but the key to this product is use half dose and change the water every 1 to 2 days you will be fine. Oh by the way add aquarium salt also.

Well I tried it and it didn't seem to do any harm. The rotting ends started to go away, but once the treatment was finished, it came back. No deaths for me, but no improvements either.

Oh I see I see. My tank is about 12 gallons (so about 25 ml needed) and I tried the Bettafix the other day so half the bottle is gone. So far my betta looks better but I can't tell for sure how long this is going to last like you said. I shall look for better treatments then. Kaiya Welch it has helped my betta grow his fins a bit.i just don't add a huge dose.i use around 7 drops but I have a 5 gallon.small doses 1 a day is okay.just be careful

My fish has fin rot and swim bladder disorder... I have been using Bettafix for about 2 days, and it seems to be helping a bit. My parents don't want to use aquarium salt because they think it will not work and will only harm my fish. Should I keep using Bettafix? I am also feeding my fish less because I think he might have a bit of trouble with digesting his food because of the swim bladder disorder. Thanks!

My Betta companion has some fin rot and seems to have a swim bladder issue as of late and may have popeye. Can I use Epsom or Kosher salt in his aquarium? I'm giving him a soak in Epsom salt right now in a separate container but wondering if I can use in his tank just as one would aquarium salt?

so what other product should i use, i have also heard that using salt to much can also harm them. if you don't reccomment this can you recommend another product for battas. thankyou.

Bekka Babcock Hi I just bought bettafix today from the pet store and havent use it yet. But I read reviews on google and people said the same thing as this girl. +mokeyhorsefish i dont know how your fish is now but you can always give them salt baths too. so during the bath, you can use melafix or bettafix but only during a 15 min bath. then when putting yourfish back to its home tank make sure you dont add the water back in. i have found that salt baths either regular aquarium salt or epsom is a great option to treating ailments in bettas. thats how i cured my betta from dropsy,which is usually fatal

+mokeyhorsefish so, before you do medicine, try a salt bath. Dissolve aquarium salt into a bowl and add your Betta for 5-15 minutes depending on how bad it is. Do this everyday for a week, if he's showing signs of stress, try to do it every other day to keep him happy. I like to give mine treats when I'm done to help too. Change the water every other day 15-25%. For the melefix/bettafix, use less than the proper dosage and be careful. Melefix is a more concentrated bettafix, use with care. For that, mix the right amount (directions on bottle) into a bowl, you can do this during salt baths, just add the medicine. If you are doing it in his tank, take the carbon out of the filter. Make sure to do water changes! (This is all from personal experience, I'm also battling finrot right now, good luck!)

I had a Betta fish that lost a partial fin- I purchased API BettaFix the other day it says “use 1/2 teaspoon per gallon” I have a 2.5 gallon tank and used 1 teaspoon just as a test. Noticed a smell of Vicks Vapor rub from the tank and from the product???? Next morning the fish died. 😞 I used under recommended dosage so what happened Possible bad batch of product?

I think it depends on the fish, I used melafix for one of my betta's and he was healed in 2 weeks (only melafix no aquarium salt) I used this on a different betta and it seemed to make his finrot worse!

It's kind of irritating because when you look up how to treat fin rot, mela fix is one of the first things to come up. But then you see all the stuff about how not to use it with a betta, but no one gives any alternatives other than aqaurium salt. I guess I'll take my chances. 😭

You can use mardel marycyn which is the recommended treatment other than aquarium salt. Hope this helps!

I use MelaFix and in 2 days my betta died. Not sure why. He was always a very timid betta. One day after a water change his fins were torn up and he wasn’t swimming much. So I quarantined him and put some MelaFix but he became less and leas active. Until one day after work I noticed he died. But I did the same thing with my other betta who was shipped almost dead and recovered it 90% better.

Hi I need some help I'm an American living in Taiwan and I just recently purchased two bettas they each have a critter keeper which is like a plastic aquarium but not it's the only thing I could find that's large enough but I bought my first fish about a month ago and he had a half gallon tank at the time I couldn't find anything bigger but I did what the pet source told me to they said change the water every 2 days because it's too small for a filter so I did what they said and I added the Water Conditioner and I checked him everyday since I've gotten him he's never had any problems until today he has mild fin rot it's on the tips of his fins. So I bought the Critter keeper it's like the equivalent of a 3 gallon tank does anybody know how you heal fin rot. If I take the lid off I can attach a heater to it or if I remove the feeder lid I could probably attach the heater from there they may have heaters with suction cups I hope they do. Can anyone tell me which antibiotics are the best and how long does it take to cure mild fin rot? When I went to the pet store because why first fish had skin problems they told me that it would take like a month and the process was really complicated

NEVER use Melafix for Betta. I just used it and now the fish has labyrinth organ issues and has a hard time swimming.

I ordered the bettafix and then read it wouldn’t help popeye, only fin rot. So I ordered the melafix instead. I’ve read so many mixed things. I’ll dose it very small to see how he reacts. It’s pretty bad. So he might need it to knock out the infection. It’s so hard to know what to do.

With the melafix and beta fix, their measurements are not very specific especially for the melafix. I did some math and Ive been able to use melafix properly for my betta. Most people just assume the measurements which Amy lead to over dosage which will lead to death from what you described. I have one gallon tank and only use 2 drops of melafix and my betta is doing fine

I use betta fix and my fish is fine

My betta got stuck in a hole of his candle warmer/betta house. My mistake, I should of glued the holes shut. Anyways, I was able to free him by breaking the candle warmer and putting him in a hospital tank with water treated with API stress coat, Indian almond leave, a heater, and half the dose of what melafix recommends, he had a huge, bloody gash on his back, and after a day he got extremely bloated and I didn’t think he was going to make it. I changed his water daily and after a week he’s healed and back to his normal self. So I do believe melafix worked in his case.

I used pimafix made from the same company API, because my goldfish had a wierd white fungas on her eye. I followed the instructions use for 7 days then clean out about a quarter of ur fish tank water. literally on that one her eye was already better the fungus was already gone i just keep giving her medicine so it wont come back...... Idk API is a really good product for medication.

I LOVE MELAFIX WORK AMAZING

I have just bought melafix today. My bottle looks a little different but I think it's the same. My betta is in a 5 gallon tank so we put 1/2 a teaspoon of the medicine in there. Is this going to hurt him?

+Anthony Ngo Yes I do, but I only add the salt dose equivalent to the water I put back in because salt does not evaporate. For example, 1 tbsp. of salt is used for 5 gallons; if I were to do a 50% change on my 5gal, I would only add 1/2 tbsp. back into the tank. Also if you have live plants I usually use half the recommended dose because it can affect the plants if there is too much salt present.

Thank you so much! Won't ever use these again. One time mistake was enough. It happens too me next day fish was died. Now that my daughter's fish is showing signs of rotten fin. I will use the salt. She has a very small tan. So don't know how to do.

I found this just after i did this, wrong. Before I used a whole bottle of beta fix and his tail still hasnt recovered yet so I tried this, but Ig I will do another water change rq. Half water change should be good. I already had the salt in the tank.

Same here. I used betta fix twice and still no improvement in fact after the second round using Betta fix he looked worse. His fin and tail rot is now severe. All the meds I find to help him ends up having many bad reviews of how it killed their betta.... Please let me know if you find something that helps. My poor Bubbles has become very inactive due to severe tail and fin loss and I feel so bad for him but, I don't know which is safe and actually works.

Both me two bettas almost died. One did. Don't OD them and they should....SHOULD be fine. But I'm never using it again. Lol. If your questioning it, use the smallest amount you can put into the tank and first see what happens, everyone is different w/different setups

Relaxation Time that's what I just thought.

I was always hesitant to buy BettaFix for my bettas. I have a box of aquarium salt for emergencies in case my bettas ever get fin rot, because I saw it as a more 'natural' way I guess than actual medicine. Its good to know that these can potentially harm their breathing.

BetterBetta in my case, My betta seems very energetic in water with aquarium salt but don't know when it comes to treatment. Mine has pop eyes so tried to use the salt everydays with clean water but doesn't seem getting better.

Actually it doesn’t harm their breathing my fish is fine, you probably overdosed on the medicine, it’s medicine, not food

my betta was already exhibiting the behavior they claim bettafix causes without ever having any. I will be surprised if he makes it through the night. :(

I'm so annoyed that nobody has the sane information..I did all I was suppose to and he still got sick.

My betta had fin rot, and all I did was raise the water temperature and add some water conditioner - It was cured by the next day. Didn't even do a water change. I think people make things too complicated sometimes with all these medicines and what not for simple fin rot.

I'm doing water changes, I added salt, and the temp is 77. Fin rot is getting worse not using medicine. I noticed blood on his fins today. The traditional method is NOT working. I have him in a DIY aquarium I built, 12x12x8. I'm about to try the medicine because your method is failing me. I never had issues like this with my other fish, betta's are too vulnerable. If he dies I'm done with Bettas. The damn thing had fin rot when I bought it. I'm kindah pissed off that they sell sick fish. Almost all Betta videos on youtube are children.
