My Grandpa set me straight a while back. He sat me down and showed me some old hymns that used to be commonplace in the Church. He showed the comparison of the message through those lyrics and lyrics in modern worship songs. It was so eye opening and it totally changed my views on the power and impact of worship (good and bad). He passed away in 2020, and I'm so thankful he took the time to help me before he went to be with the Lord.

But they do have a dark side that is hard to find. And i didn't find this. And we need these people to let this known to us. But i am sad because a lot of these songs brought me very close to God while i know God is always with me. But God is not waiting for 'that' song to have my attention in that moment only. Before the Mandela Effect happened, the KJV used to say in Ephesians 5:19 sing your praises through psalms and hymns to the Lord. The reason being that you seal up God’s word and understanding in your heart and mind. Also, singing God’s words verbatim, helps you get through all of life’s highs and lows. The Mandela Effect has now added the words “speaking to yourselves” and “spiritual songs”, in this scripture. I listened to contemporary Christian songs all my life up until a few years ago. Something has changed in the musical Christian world and it is not just from Bethel. All music genera’s are starting to sound the same and blending to where you can’t tell them apart one from the other. I know not everyone sees this happening but pay attention to what is happening during this flood of deception and always seek God in all you do. Thank you for pointing out this truth about Bethel and challenging others to pay attention and seek God for his truth.

@@FightForTruthMedia Reposting my comment: People are throwing the baby out w/ the bath water when it comes to prophecy. God still speaks today to people, and you need to stop telling people he does not speak through people today when that is totally false. Clearly, we all have something to learn. Are we to believe, then, that dreams only come from Satan? Are we supposed to believe when we 'discern', that it's not God speaking to us? Are we supposed to believe that if someone accurately speaks to a situation in our life that they're using psychic powers? Bad apples (to say the least) is not proof that God 'doesn't use prophecy today'. I love your videos, but your bad take on this is leading people right into the arms of New Agers.

As stated in the recent new book, 'Counterfeit Kingdom', when you allow music like Bethel and Hillsong into your church, their doctrine follows and infiltrates the church. We don't need new, trendy, relevant, or even emotionally charged/moving worship music. Worship is for God and God alone and not for us to have a moving 'experience' or to elevate us in any way. If that does, then the worship you're offering is actually worship of yourself; not God!

It has been a long time since it was biologically possible for me to conceive, let alone carry a child. Did I want children? Most definitely, I always pictured myself with one or two babies, but the Lord had other things in mind. I have "adopted" kids along the way, some for a short season, some to stay in one way or another, including a family who became the one I never had. I helped raise my niece and nephew, then my nieces oldest daughter who is nearly 16; now helping raise my nieces 2 and 4 year old kids as well.

So many misunderstandings here: 1. New Testament prophecy is not for direction, it's for comfort, edification, and exhortation - you can't compare it with the Old Testament style of 'foretelling.' You can even play an instrument 'prophetically' in those terms. 2. That's a very bad version of Romans 8: 28 - all things aren't good, some are evil, and they don't bring us good. The correct interpretation is "IN all things, GOD works for the good of those who love him." In other words, even in evil circumstances He will continue to work to bring forth good, and He does it so well we are tempted to think He may have caused, or at least allowed the evil, but He doesn't need to use evil in order to do good! 3. God can an most certainly does speak to anyone who wants to listen - He may do it by highlighting Scripture, but if He's directing your steps it will be in plain language - go here or there, stop, start, or look out, don't eat so much bacon - anything you've asked for direction about! The only thing He won't do is contradict His word. 4. I wouldn't go anywhere near Bethel church, for a lot of reasons, but then I don't currently know ANY church I would go to, and that is sad - they're all apostate to some degree in my experience, and once you object to their wrong teaching and practices you'll have to leave or be thrown out!. However, that doesn't mean everything is wrong - you just need discernment - I've been singing "I Love You Lord (Goodness of God)" and it's a great song - unlike the ones you quoted, which are garbage - but then so are some hymns! 5. This is more for the comments: can we please get off this 'modern music is bad, traditional hymns are good' nonsense - it's a ridiculous generalisation, and it's not true - there was plenty of unscriptural stuff written in the 19th century too, so let's not be musically 'Amish' about it! Nor is it necessary for songs to be musical Bible studies or sermons - that's not what worship is about. But most importantly, we need to serve this generation - Watchman Nee said "everything about the church must be up to date, living, and contemporary, serving the present, one might almost say the passing needs of the time." Marshall McLuhan went further and said, "the media is the message" so if we sit in draughty churches with stained glass windows, use Jacobean language, and sing Wesleyan hymns, then the message is 'this is old fashioned, out of date, and has no relevance to everyday life in the 21st century.' Of course we don't change the message, but the media it's presented in must change - and where it doesn't, there is often a spirit of religion behind it. We're not here to please ourselves, we're here to win souls - of course it's the Lord who wins them - but we're not put people off even enquiring. So please be balanced about it - some churches are all Spirit and no word - this is bad and tends to blow up. Others are all word and no Spirit - this is equally bad and tends to dry up. The liturgical churches have neither Spirit nor word, for the most part, so it's pointless going to those. But, if you can find a church that's Spirit and word, you will grow up - personally, I don't know of one. God bless.

So when a "prophet" foretells something that's false, how does that comfort, edification, and exhort? It doesn't and what you wrote is not 100% true, there fore we know that you are not a teacher, prophet or preacher from God.

  • @SuperJ333

@@evetsegap "Ye do err, because ye knoweth not the Scripturres, nor the power of God." It's OLD TESTAMENT prophecy that was for 'fortelling' things, and for direction. NEW TESTAMENT prophecy is not for either of those things - it's one of the 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit listed in 1 Corinthians 12, and it's available to those who are Baptised in the Spirit, although it's up to the Spirit to give that gift to whom He wills. A prophetic word, given in a meeting, is for the "comfort, edification, and exhortation" of the saints present, and it's given in the language of the hearers. But it can also come in the alternative form of a spoken message in an unknown 'tongue' which is then interpreted, and if that happens it's the equivalent of prophecy. Now, prophetic words can come from the Lord, from the enemy, or from the flesh, so it's important to exercise discernment - although in my experience it's easy to tell. For example, if the gist of the message is entirely comlimentary, it's not from the Lord, and on the other hand, if the message is entirely condemnatory, it's not from the Lord either. He manages to gently rebuke, exhort, and encourage, all in the same message - you can tell it's Him! And if the message is predictive and directional, it's not from the Lord, because that's NOT what New Testament prophecy is for. However, it doesn't mean that somone doesn't have a prophetic gift, just because they fall into error at times - although as they become more experienced in the gift, those errors usually fade away. Finally, I don't claim to be "a prophet or a preacher from God" - but I do seem to have something from the Lord in the area of what we might call 'Bible teaching' all glory to Him. So, if you're going to call me out, you'll need Scripture to show me my error, and so far I don't see any of that. God bless.

@@ExcitingOnion Yes, but I don't see that as a prophetic word, but as a word of knowledge, as described in 1 Corinthians 12. It's true that the gifts overlap, and the divisions are somewhat arbitary, but the Scripture is clear about the purpose of New Testament prophecy, as exercised in the church (1 Corinthians 14: 3) and it's for edification, exhortation and comfort, and the equivalent gifts are tongues with interpretation, imparting the same message. God bless.

As someone who once listened to Hillsong and Bethel almost religiously, I found this video to be a serious eye-opener. Not only that, I remember playing some of their music (via computer) at youth groups as well as outside the main service back around 2014-2015, back when I worked in the A/V booth. Brother Colin, thank you so much for spreading this news. While I was watching this video, I could feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit come upon me just for playing their music before and after services in the past. Now, just thinking about their music makes my stomach churn, especially since things have only gotten worse, not better, since I left that post.

Dude you are totally right about the music. My mom and stepdad attend bethel in Redding CA every sunday and probably much more. A few years ago my mother invited me, my wife and siblings to attend while we were visiting from montana. Upon arrival i was intimidated by the shear size of this Mega Church but that all changed when we sat down inside. My first impressions were amazing. The music was wonderful and i could almost feel something spiritual about it within me and i felt this way during the entire musical part. This all changed when the music stopped and they asked for money to build something for the children and this was practically their words “we only need a couple million to make this dream come true” I was immediately upset and those feelings of love and happiness drifted away cause i realized what they’re really trying to do. Maximize members and maximize profits to build more to attract more people. The real question i have is, what would Bethel be without its music? I appreciate you exposing this. Im hoping i can one day talk to my mother about this.

My wife had a miscarriage a few years ago when we first tried having kids. We were expecting again and terrified due to complications that were expected. A friend of ours took us to church with him and it ended up being a charismatic church. The preacher and elder brought us into a room and laid hands on my wife’s belly, prophesying; “Your son will be an apostle to the nations.” Two months later, and 17 weeks early our DAUGHTER was born and died in the NICU at 12 days old. Charismatics are a plague who give false hope and feed on people’s emotions when they are at their lowest point. Praise God that I didn’t turn away from Him, but rather saw the wolves for what they truly are. I am now more devout than ever in spite of the damage that the charismatics did in my life.

I had been spending a lot of time in scripture many, many years ago and was sitting in church one day, looking around, seeing all these people, hands raised, eyes closed. It all seemed so self absorbed and a way for people to feel better about themselves. The words to the song (I don't even remember the song now) were so self serving. They could have been about anyone! No mention of Jesus, no mention of God, no mention of The Holy Spirit. It really was a me, me, me song. I couldn't bare it. I just sat there, dumbfounded wondering what happened! It set me on a long journey of really paying attention to the music I had listened to over the years and realized that so much of it was man centered.

I"m neither defending nor condemning Bethel Music. What I have noticed in many Christian artists' songs, including Bethel is that the term, "prophesy" is mostly used as a creative force to declare a desired outcome, not as an actual prophecy about the future. I think most of if comes from Ezekiel 37, where God tells Ezekiel to "prophesy" to the dry bones. I think people have taken that and use the term to mean "speaking to dead situations, commanding them to come to life" as the prophet did. To me this seems more like a misuse of a word than anything else. I came into this video expecting the worst about Bethel music, but I personally don't find the use of the word "prophesy" in this context to be "dangerous", maybe somewhat misguided to an extent, but hardly dangerous. My opinion in the matter is subject to change if I come across more information that would show how dangerous it is to listen to their music. I don't listen to their sermons, but i like their music, it has helped me get closer to God, and has helped me in my overall Christian journey.

I guess those of us who’ve sinned at lot and we finally understand repentance and forgiveness, grace and mercy will find the lyrics of this song to be a redemption testimony where Jesus is the one to glorify! I love your channel but I am noticing the world is not dividing the church, Christians are dividing the church by constantly criticizing piece by piece anything another Christian will do. @Nubiar5 I agree with you! I just heard the song “so will I” for the first time and it touched me so much. I only thought of one thing. God and his greatness and glory and how he deserves worship. To the people saying the music is bad I say this…Don’t rob the masses of coming to Christ because you don’t like the music. Because the songs aren’t hymns. Music grows, churches grow, the hymns are just as holy as ever, but people write new songs and their hands and hearts are guided by God. If you want to twist things around you can make anything seem bad. This music reaches people. I’ve never heard a song from these groups that glorified anything other than God. I have seen them touch the lives of many people and bring them closer to Jesus. Yes, people look happy while singing along and worshipping. That doesn’t mean they are serving themselves. They are experiencing pure joy through worshiping their savior. Their happiness comes from the Lord.

The patriarchs prophesied over their children. They told them their futures and didn’t say, “Thus sayeth The Lord.” Words do have power. “I believe; therefore, I speak.” That’s also scripture. Baptist here.

That’s I always play the songs of planetshakers. Their songs are very theological. They are so underrated, maybe bc their key of songs are so high that an ordinary worship leader can’t keep up. And it’s kinda hard to play especially there synth effects. But yeah, as a musician and worship leader, planetshakers is my go to music.

This is right on, and this is how I know - Before hearing anything negative about Bethel I began noticing when certain songs came on the radio I would feel sandpaper against my soul and change the channel. When I began taking notice of where the music was coming from I began paying attention to each song that wasn’t settling in my spirit, and Bethel was the “write”. When I began researching and running into people in town who had visited Bethel (I live here in Redding, Ca) I realized something wasn’t right. Here I am 6 years later and am fully aware of who and what Bethel is, and it’s not good.

I am not saying this to be petty or contrary, but rather for your benefit. It's good for you to notice that sensation, but it's also important to be sure that you are correctly understanding its meaning. For instance, in the hypothetical scenario where someone was being demonically oppressed, they might become uncomfortable when hearing music that carries the anointing of the Holy Spirit. I know a woman who attended a church service and started feeling a tightness in her chest and difficulty breathing as soon as she stepped inside. Thankfully, she decided to stay for the whole service and come back the next week, in spite of her discomfort. During the service that second week, the heaviness lifted off her and she felt much freer and lighter after that. In her case, the discomfort was a demon that had been oppressing her for an indeterminate amount of time getting uncomfortable in an atmosphere where the presence of God was being more strongly manifested. What you were feeling while listening to that music is significant, but it isn't immediately clear if it was indicating something positive or negative about the music. If you would like a biblical basis for this, look at the way a demon manifested in the synagogue when Jesus was present. It had been quietly present up to that point with nobody any the wiser, living in the body of a Jew who was presumably attending synagogue regularly, but when Jesus showed up it began to show itself.

Late 70s - early 80s we sang what we called "scripture songs"... we had a multipage booklet of lyrics, all songs based on scripture or just scripture. Our youth pastor's wife played the acoustic guitar while we sang. Sometimes our tempo would outpace her on the guitar... she got a real workout sometimes! :^)

"That is something literally any Christian could say." Paul also literally told every Christian to go after prophecy if you accept his letter to a church was guidance for every Christian. 1 Corinthians 14:1 "Pursue love, yet earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy" The rest of the chapter explains why.

You're right about the value and richness of the bible being a deep fount for drawing up amazing theological lyrical content. I've penned a couple songs that are almost verbatim from the scriptures, and I almost can't get through them without crying due to how emotionally moving they are. I can't stand bubble gum "worship" music.

I was part of one of the first satellite schools for Bethel (circa 2008 2010) My church that I attended most of my life had embraced a lot of their theology and we even had several of their leaders including Kris Vallton along with Sub leaders many times. I was part of a leadership group that got to see a lot of things behind the scenes. I can tell you that even though I love so much that I experienced. My spirit always felt off, I knew about the Kundalini spirit and I kept thinking this seems like that sometimes. I asked some of my leaders why they’re chanting because the Bible specifically says not to chant. I was never given any valid response other than told to not let the devil rob me of God’s truth. I left after going through it for two years and decided I didn’t wanna be part of it anymore. The manipulation became more clear to me from my perspective. The “honor” System that was placed on certain leaders or prophets was beyond the pale.

Okay, so this is an editorial for cessationism. But we don't have OT prophets around today because every believer has the indwelling Holy Spirit and can hear God's voice. In OT times, only certain people could hear from God. So they were under strict accountability because they were speaking for God to people who could not hear God's voice. I don't agree with the "prophecies" that you mentioned, and they should not have been publicly spoken to everyone in a meeting. In the NT, for a public prophecy, every believer is supposed to carefully listen and discern whether or not this is from God. A problem is that too many people want the power and authority of the OT prophets, but no one wants the accountability they were under. Each Christian has the indwelling Holy Spirit though and can hear God's leading in our lives.

Christian Rock/Metal often has such deep-cutting, thought-provoking lyrics that really grow my love for God and how He’s always there for me in my hardship and adversity. The worshipful songs in the genre are also fantastic, praising God not for false prophesies, but for His support in the evils of the world. Many Christian Metal songs focus on the fact that God is our only way to overcome sin, and I really admire that.

Hey Colin, this was excellent. I would like to suggest, and others may have already in the comments, but it may be helpful to follow up with the lyrics of a theologically sound hymn ie a mighty fortress is our God or Be Thou My Vision or a Getty song ex: Pass The Promise and it’s history according to the writer, it may be enough of a stark contrast that people will see exactly your point.
