I read that Jar Jar excerpt and it was fucking depressing: all his friends are either dead or exiled and he's finally been reduced to being the fool everyone always thought him to be.

"...finally been reduced to being the fool everyone always KNEW him to be." There's really no room for stepping in poodoo in a Star-Wars movie.

I know its not exactly constructive criticism or helpful to the subject but thank you Guys for making Mondays awesome. nuff said.
Did anyone remember the video "How to make batman v Superman good" and he says, In Batman 89 he has a gadget specifically for kicking a guy in the balls. You cannot get more prepared than that!!! They made another reference to that in this video!
36:41 Whadda ya meeeeeeean, Mason?? I could listen to that on a loop!
Because Joss Whedon wasn't ashamed to have his characters in actual costumes, and forgo the black leather jumpers. That is the difference between The Avengers and X-men films. They're also allowed to have legitimate fun, and not just be sarcastic or self-deprecating. At the time, Singer had to dip his toe into comic book "stuff" for his films because the public's last taste of that (Bat-nipples and ice-puns) was so sour. He pulled it off well...but the public has had 15 years of super hero films since then, and we're much more willing to accept the weirder aspects of them. Singer hasn't changed with the times. If Apocalypse had come out in 2006, I think it would be considered among the better comic book movies, but it just doesn't work 10 years later.

Gooter Hagen i think this is the perfect response actually. Shame that the classic 90s costumes are shown for all of 5 seconds asst thr end of the film, when we've been seeing outfits close to comic accurate in marvel studio movies all this time.
Samuel L. Jackson is mad about Nick Fury not showing up in Black Panther!? He must not understand these characters: After all of the shady shit Nick Fury has done he's probably the last person T'Challa wants poking around his country.
@przemekdude

somerandommonkeyful If Steve Rogers was in charge of wakanda he would probably let him in, becouse of their history together, but he's not in charge. T'challa doesn't have any reason to trust Fury, he never even met the guy in his life.
@ABenAbides

przemdud80 Indeed, good sir. Although I maintain that Fury's manipulative nature and SHIELD's reputation would be cause for T'challa to mistrust him even if he knew him.
J.K Simmons as J.J.J proves a complete understanding of the comic character
loving these podcasts guys!
Always a good day when there's a new episode of this :)
I believe the avengers works better together than the x-men because, 1) They get their own movies and more time for character development 2) Each movie comes out in order (no reboots or different time lines) and builds towards a main story involving all the characters (infinity war). 3) I think visually, the Marvel movies are much more hopefully, colorful, and bright. While, the newer x-men movies have seemed to try and be a little more realistic and grounded. MARVEL embraces the silliness of comics and its characters. 4) I also believe that Marvel has cast their movies much better than fox (at least comparing the newer castings)
keep up the great content guys
Great as usual love you guys
Great video guys!
They didn't mention the Wonder Woman screening at all. I guess they didn't get the memo.
Loved your "Logan" impression 😂🤣😂
To be fair to Ang Lee, nobody can make a good Hulk movie. The source material just doesn't lend itself to three act structures and it's hard to put the character through an arc, since the moment you "fix" him, the character ceases to be what people recognize him for.
Thanks for making Mondays not "GROTTY" mates!
I like the JURASSIC PLANET idea man. That's good.

So, worst comic book movie director... the dude who made the newer Fant Four Stic movie, that's right, he doesn't even get the pleasure of me remembering his name. boom. Does Star Wars The Force Awakens count? because I'd say J.J Abram's... but if not, then maybe... The Russo brothers. does two count? I thought Zach Snyder did a great job at directing (Aside from Lex Luther, Jesse Eisenberg did a great job at acting, its just the character he was acting as, wasn't the characters personality at all... ), but the producing for BvS was... lesser... I still enjoyed it more then most did... The extended cut was better, as they always are.

The whole bit of Superman going back in time to tell his dad to eat better needs to be animated, it's hilarious.
Glenn Ford snuffing it in Superman 78 IS a great scene. Still one of my favorite scenes of any comic book movie.
Batman '89 wasn't campy. It was, "The comic book come to life!".
@Matt_Mosley1983
7 жыл бұрын
No. The 'comic book come to life' was BATMAN & ROBIN ... BATMAN was the realisist, gritty take on thecharacter that should ALWAYS be done. B&R was the comic book faithful one (which shows we SHOULDN'T just film the comic books :-) )
47:13 _"It was either SUPERMAN LIVES, the J.J Abrams one..."_ *
@Boeing_hitsquad

Superman Lives was NOT written by Kevin Smith, Kevin turned in a script, he was no the only one, and he was not the last, the movie got a page 1 rewrite after Kevin's script and had nothing that was in Kevin's script.
The Professor X getting punched while saying Logan was hilarious. Put that bit in a video! 28:16 anyone else think of the BvS cancelled script video? xD
Jar Jar was the Gungan senator of Naboo, since the planet had two distinct sovereign governments, at least, as far as was depicted in the films.
Best Charles Xavier impression Mason.... haahahha. That's deep.
In the international posters for The Last Jedi, the word Jedi itself is still Jedi, but the other words in the title have been switched to plural. For instance, in Spanish, if the subject becomes plural, so does "the," changing from "el" to "los."
Best Professor X impression 😂

I think we were so pumped for the 1st X-Men bc of nostalgia and the first real look at mutant powers. Also, I think Singer probably stopped reading comics after initial success
Guys can you link these pics you speak about like Rey and the Marvel concept art :(
would you ever doing a transformers pod based around IDW run or the generation 1
I have never laughed more during any episode. These jokes were pretty funny
Laughing my arse off because I got an ad for Foxtel during this video.
Fincher would do a killer Moon Knight
jar jar as a street clown is is a better fate than i wouldve that
I know JarJar is annoying in the prequels but he's pretty endearing in the Clone Wars series. So that little excerpt was kind of sad :(
I would love to see David Fincher direct a Moon Knight movie based on the Warren Ellis run
Bruce Banner does pent up his anger because of his father. In the comics, Banner's father IS a huge part of the Hulk. I don't remember much about it but it's something like the Hulk is the idea of his abusive father or something.
I love the weekly planet
since Professor X impressions are a recurring feature, I'd like to hear some more Mark Wahlburg impressions haha
59:50 Days of Future Past is the last movie I got excited about. I saw them all come out at comic con, the casts of BOTH movies? I lost my mind! I wouldn't shut up about it until I finally saw it. Like, Wolverine's been helping the new team this whole time, but he gets dumped in a river and NO ONE goes to see if he's okay, except for Mystique, who is also Stryker somehow? Also, why you no mention Spawn or Steel?
Want to see more of TR-8R!
Can someone please animate the superman goes back in time bit. Holy shit that's awesome.
"Eat floor...high fibre" - Batman (Batman Returns)
Thanks for the episode you bloody Australians
Just so you guys know, my girlfriend and I saw 'Man of Tai Chi' and we couldn't stop laughing at how bad it was. Without prior knowledge... Yet we love Reeves.
i never understood why the Blade director isn't included in comic movie lists....that was a great flick that took the characters seriously and made them infinitely better than the comic counterparts
don't you DARE diss my happy feet
Besides Nolan, Raimi understands superheroes amazingly.
The reason Singer can't make an X-men film anymore is the same as Lucas making a Star Wars film. The first few where so new and revolutionary he was setting a trend that had to draw influence from other mediums. Then the later ones only drew from themselves and where trying to copy earlier troupes hence they fell apart.
Man, Samuel L Jackson really wants to cameo in every movie. ... I approve. Get that paper.
Mel Gibson is one of the greatest directors alive today. Hacksaw Ridge is in the top 3 favorite movies last year for me. I watched Xmen 2 the other day for the first time in years. I didn't really like it when it came out but now I get it and I see the movie for what it is and its great still. Still holds up, except for the scenes when they show computers you can age the movie by that and really only that. Also recently watched Fight Club in the past year and to me it still holds up but it is a bit pretentious with the message. But its really only like that because I mean we grew up with the movie and its almost 20yrs old. Still good though.
Have the Coen Bros made a comic book movie? Because that might be cool...
yay I'm awake to hear this early!!! 😀😀😀😀
Batman '66 actually had a ridiculously high budget for the time.
23:50 And also The Falcon!
We enjoyed the Singer movies, because, "That's what we were getting?". They were good movies. But, we are now getting movies and are getting closer to the books. And Singer is stuck in the idea of, "Grounded in Reality".
RE: X-Men movies becoming less effective - The X-Men movies 3 - now have had the same sort of villain/climax without variation, and little-to-no-consequences. So there is little pressure or excitement at the end of the movie, because there is no real risk. The X-men movies also haven't handled scaling action well. When action involves dissolving an entire city, it's hard to make it feel impactful without tying it to real-world analogues, which is tough. Pacific Rim did scaling action well, both with linking the boat to a baseball bat, which gave your brain a logical analogy to hang onto, and scale, when the fist hits the executive toy. It also killed characters with some frequency, so the tension stayed present. Dissolving one million non-protagonists in a cloud of psycho-energy just doesn't have the same emotional or logical ties. X1 & 2 had smaller stakes, and the climaxes were both tied to emotional matters. We wanted Rogue to survive, and we wanted Logan to find peace.
Whaddya MEEAANNN, Mason?!
You asked, I answer: It's exactly what you said before: Singer pioneered a lot of stuff with his first two X-Men films, but in the intervening time, it all got copied and done better elsewhere (the epitome of which is The Avengers) and he can't update himself with the time. This is why his movies aren't considered as good, because the quality of superhero movies has increased enormously. Seriously. I firmly believe that TA has one of the finest scripts ever produced. It's punchy and witty, keeping everyone entertained, but it's also and more fundamentally *character-driven*; the lines work so well because they're exactly what their characters would say and do. That's the substance of it.
@1:01:00ish- James, Maseau, and everyone else- What if Fox hired Sam Raimi to direct the first X-Men instead of singer?
when I read the synopsis for Jar Jar's fate I (surprisingly) felt a tiny bit of sympathy for him... and then I read his dialogue and immediately remembered how much I hated him.
Woo weekly planet
how dare Mason speed things up at the end so he can go to work! stay longer! entertain us!
For me, at the time X-Men 1 & 2 came out, I think most of my love for those movies was more hype for a real X-men movie. I specifically remember the jet scene and the wolverine scene feeling like legit comic book moments. But those moments felt isolated overall in the movie. I think we've gotten movies that properly brought comic book heroes to the screen, so what worked for X-men 1 & 2 just doesn't work anymore.
I've made the decision to use 'give it a Googs, mate' as part of my vocabulary. In my opinion it only works if you have an Aussie accent :)

Listened to this while playing fifa late at night.
BRAD BIRD directing a Superman movie would be the super special best.
Did you talk it to death tho?
Best Superman script ever....Dad...stop eating fatty foods, lol
BEN IS NOT LEAVING BATMAN! That was just SPECULATION from John Campea at Collider and he even said, "don't run this as a story, this is just speculation." Also Collider was one of the only ones who DIDN'T run that as a story cause they knew it was just John's speculation.
where I'm from an Australian Dollar is 10 dollars
The first two X-Men were great because they were cinematic. They came across as films rather than hyper saturated shaky cam almost made for TV movies Disney is putting out. As rough as Apocalypse was, you can't knock Singer's direction. His shots hold weight. There's actual choreography between the actors and camera.

Xmen films are also pretty violent compared to MCU which is pretty subjective. The only scene where I was like "damn he's hurt!" in the MCU is when Stark got beat up in Civil War. Compare that to the iron being ripped out of your veins. I'll never forget X2 lol.... still top 3.
Give Quentin Tarantino marvels vigilante because a cowboy fighting marvel b and c class villains sounds cool

I actually kinda feel sad for Jar Jar... I don’t like him, but I can imagine his street performances
You need to do a barman animated series episode.
I want Peter Jackson to go back to horror, specifically take over and reboot the Silent Hill movies, since Del Toro is busy with Kojima, Jackson is my runner up

No one cares.
Avengers is done with love, X-Men is done with a "screw the fans" attitude.
Speed Racer was pretty great, and Tintin was pretty fantastic.
In retrospect i think i like Se7en more than fight club
Spielberg would do a good Martin Manhunter movie.
When did you guys talk about George Miller's Justice League?
If the beep James would have set for every 39 seconds will REALLY late REALLY soon. Do the math.
I reckon give Moon Knight to George Miller. An edgier batman with the supernatural swing to it, give him freedom to experiment and I think it could be great.
"KHEEERN!"
GIVE IT A GOOGS
I'd like to see Brad Byrd direct superman
Nawwwwwwwwww you're alright. My descendant name is Mason! From rock people! Mysterious Druids!
I found this using the "googs"
Richard Lester did not direct Superman 4.
Ya'll too mean to Mel Gibson. He's pretty good, and yeah, he went on a rager and all, but it's not like the rest of Hollywood isn't secretly corrupt as fuck too. I think he'd do a great Suicide Squad film, and he'd make a great Deathstroke. Also, Batman '89 wasn't great, but you forgot to mention that it had the most iconic Batman theme that ever played! Always love the show! Thanks guys!
Bill murry for all voices
