As an AMX M4 driver, I can personally confirm that the gun of the M51 is terrifying. On the other hand I tend to one shot them because of their thin armor.

As a France player, I definitely agree! Edit: The SA50 and the FL10 shermans are absolutely insane, the SA50 can pen the UFP of the panther, while the FL10 has a 5 sec auto loader on a round with 190+ mm of pen. The only weakness of these two are the bad armor and Mediocre mobility, and the SA50 kinda has a slightly long reload. It’s also important to note that since the 75mm full calibre AP is so big, it often causes an insane amount of spalling(in a conical form) that’s usually enough to one-shot most tanks form the front.

Surprised you left out the M4A3E8 (M4A3 76(w)). I happen to love it.

I will Teach you the Art of a Sherman. If you master this you will be unstoppable this trick can Work with any Sherman. 1, you need to know your enemy to kill them like where are the gunner and driver located and where are weaknesses in armour. 2, you need to angle your Sherman then you can bounce things. note this will only work with A2 and A3 variants the A1 variant has very weak armour. 3, use your Stabilizer when Approaching the enemy you can slow down but keep moving you can Kill them. If it's a heavy tank you can easily break their gun barrel and track and kill them from the sides. 4, Attack the D point

I would have given the M51/M51(w) at least a silver. This tin-can lives up to its nickname Tommykocher/ Zippo on Br 6.0, since the armor is next to useless but the 400mm penetrating gun gave me PTSD. If I had to choose between shooting a IS-something or an Israeli Sherman with my Panther/ Tiger2 I would always shoot the Sherman because surviving a soviet 122 is more likely than surviving a 105 Heat Shell to the face.

From personal experience : the M4A3 (105) is unbelievably inconsistent. Good armor but not a lot of different ammo options. You only have HE and HEAT which are not very trustworthy

The only thing that should have kept the 105 from being in the number 1 slot is the long reload. Only getting one shot for every two or three hitting you generally means losing the gun and/or some crew before you can shoot again.

I have two favorite Sherman tanks. The M4A2 (75) and the Jumbo 75. I love them because it can take on any other tank at its BR in any situation. The jumbo is especially fun for trolling Tigers.

*M4A3 105 being the best Sherman and shrugging off German 50mms* Meanwhile me, a German player: “bUt wHaT aBoUt tHe MaRdEr’s 75mm?”

Bro when I first got war thunder the marder was my most hated tank, and I mean #1. Close second was the ZIS-30 just due to the fact that those were the tanks that could kill me so easily. Now that I'm more experienced i can confidently say i still hate them but also have respect for players of them due to the sheer amount of revenge CAS they face.

Agreed, my meta for the last few months was Stuh 42 G, Marder 3 H, 2.7 puma, Bf 110 c-7 and flakpanzer 1 (because why not I didn’t have better spaa) but I recently unlocked the Stug 3 F. It’s an unsung hero in my opinion.

You cant change my mind, the M-51 is hardly a Sherman. It is like call the F-86K basically an F-86A-5 because it still has F-86 in the name. Fun fact: It was only called the F-86 so crews would be more willing to actually agree to fly it because they thought it was still an F-86

at what point does a sherman stop becoming a sherman? if its the gun then the firefly or even the 76 could be considered not a sherman. if its the suspension then does a sherman with HVSS suspension stop becoming a sherman? and every sherman variant has a different engine layout as well. just because its modded doesn't mean it stops being a sherman.

That's why everyone used to play it back then. The problem now is that the gun is severely lacking at 5.3, to the point where some people only load APCR to actually do some damage at all. 5.3 is a bit too high for it.

I wish I had gotten the German Sherman back when it was available. It's one of the best Shermans in the game and it sits at a battlerating where Germany has a lot of other tanks to line it up with.

I’d have to go with the M4A2 W up top. Just a very well-rounded tank.

I agree that the gold goes to the M4A3 105, because I once played and won an entire game with just that one tank. The armor is insane and I definitely made a lot of people mad by sniping them!

The full on official designation is Medium Tank M4A3 W (76) HVSS E stands for "Easy" which only used for experiment on a chassis in this case the E8 for HVSS equipped Sherman in testing

The m4 105 is a heavy tank impervious to most guns (be careful with panzer fours), can pen or overpressure anything and has a .50 cal

I love how the M4A3 (105) is considered one of the best shermans. That thing is pretty much a beast at medium ranges only. You can shoot long ranges with it, and over hills, but you have to know what you are doing. All other situations, which are more common, you will be outpaced and outflanked immediately due to the long reload times and abysmal turret speed. Still a pretty good tank though.

Could we get the F7U Cutlass? (Preferably a main tech tree F7U-3 or F7U-3M)

Yeah the M4A3 (105) is very good, it is still my highest win rate vehicle.

I prefer the polish Tzryniec since I've been fairly lucky with it (and the typhoon mk lb), so long as I don't face off against tigers, panthers and/or kv's.

Shermans are cool and all, but have you ever seen the Chinese m4a1 (75) w? its basically a 76mm M4a1 turret with... a 75mm gun. it just looks so cursed in my opinion

But it can be penetrate by anything. If the opponent is not too bad it's very easy to take it down before it can shoot you. It don't have stabilizer a big reload time and not a great balistic

Furthermore, other tanks like the Strv-74 (280mm) in 5.7 or the IKV-103 (400mm) in 4.7 can penetrate them easy and nobody complain about them while they are at even lower BR

By that logic, let's bring the bmp 1 down to 6.0 too, I mean a tiger can easily deal with that too... right?

Good m51 tip face the engine forwards, angle and keep the gun posted to the rear its pretty op.

The M4A1 W76, clearly holds 1st place. With is BR being changed to 4.7 in the past year, the worst it can take on are some early German heavies and a few other, not so intimidating foes. With an up-thickened cast UFP, and the earliest stabilized 76mm, it’s not only the best American tank at its BR but probably the best tank at 4.7. The cast body has some weak points but can be a bit trolly as it’s armor values on the front is not consistent due to the armor being uneven. It clearly holds the gold, and can be useful even at 6.7

Dude, the up-armour doesn't do anything. It'a still cast, and it's still paper thing. Why even mention it? It has MUCH less pen than a T-34-85 D5T (see effectiveness vs angled armour), and less post-penetration damage.

@@leeham6230 actually is has an easier time at stopping 75mm from Pz.IV’s and other like the KV-1C. It’s not perfect but can even stop Russian 57mm sometimes. Now it’s still a Sherman and no where near invincible, but can still hold its own and take hits without being penetrated. the difference between the t-34-85 and the M4A1 76 is that although the 85mm has an incredible angle penetration and can even pen the front of a panther at some times, the M4A1 76 or any American 76mm does keep up with angle armor penetration in practice. I’m not dissing on the t-34 or any 85mm carrier, but the T-34-85 slow in reload for urban combat and struggles just as much as the 76mm when it comes to range. Another thing that can help the M4A1 against any opponent is that it can make a precise shot on the move. That and a quicker reload makes it scary to go against in urban areas. The t-34-85 is still up there, it’s incredibly sturdy (although that might be a gaijin thing) it’s gun is reliable and really makes you feel like you are playing a tank, but the M4A1 can almost make you feel like you can hold your own against a few players.

I would imagine it does. First stage racks are manually loaded by the crew, so skill should affect the time. Autoloaders are mechanical, so it moves shells from the first stage rack to the gun at the same speed regardless of the crew skill.

The Chinese M4A1 (75) w is very good with the T23 turret, but I have had more kills per game in the Lend-Lease M4A4 than any other Sherman, whether that be the Italian or Chinese M4A4. I just wish it had a roof mounted .50, and then it would be perfect.

Not really. Try not to go for the Heavy tanks, but just stick to lighter mediums

Many people believe the sherman is the best tank to ever roll off the assembly line, but that is not true. It was good for its ease and price. For example, hey, that bush over there needs to be leveled off but we cant waste ammunition! There's a sherman for that, rhino sherman it was called. Hey, i need a plow for snow! There's a sherman for that! There's a sherman for everything, not only that, but it was cheap and easy to produce, but still had reasonable firepower and armor. It was simply PERFECTLY BALANCED. That's why there are so many versions, they are simply good for their price. They can be quickly made compared to other tanks, they could be used in masses, and still had more capability then a french milk truck.

Maybe with you give a dozer Blade on the Sherman m4a4 It can became a good Variant (or at least give a.50 cal)

Under no circumstances should there be a Sherman at 6.3. 5.7 max for the Jumbo 76mm.
