Best SBC "Cast Iron" intake ever made. 67-69 302 Z-28 & 70-72 350 LT-1 copy.

Checking out the best 4-barrel cast iron intake available for SBCs. Possibly one of the best SBC dualplane intakes ever made period by any company. 250-260 cfm flow as is. Can be ported for much more. Many 500+hp Dirt Track 355s have been built with this intake. Seen a 406 years ago make 560+hp with one of these intakes using EQ 200cc runner iron heads & a big solid flat tappet cam. This intake makes power to 7000rpm. Real good intake if ya need a well made dualplane for a SBC. It's a cast iron version of the old 1970 LT-1 350 & 67-69 302 Z-28 engines intake. Only con is the weight, but many people ain't concerned with a 15lb difference. Can be bought cheap from old Dirt Track racers quitting or from the Marine world. This particular unit came from a retired Dirt Track racer, so it was never on a boat. Zero corrosion. Zero flaws. Nice piece for $75 bucks.

Well, I just picked up one of those intakes this morning. Picked it up from a marina. Was only ever used in fresh water. It's in excellent condition! Come up on Marketplace for sale & was only half hour from my home. Got it for $100 Canadian...so about $12 bucks US lol. Thanks again for the info on that intake! 👍

Chevy small blocks used QuadraJet carbs from 1967 on,hence the large secondary passages to clear the throttle blades.I only saw factory Holleys on certain high performance big block engines and the 302 tunnel port ,around 69-70.The primary passages were smaller than any performance Holley you’d want to put on it.Holley began making some awesome spread-bore carbs for these manifolds tho,I think in ‘69.I had one of their 800cfm 4165 racing carbs on the aluminum hi-rise manifold atop my ‘70 RA/IV Pontiac engine.Manual choke and adjustable gear driven secondaries.

This intake is based on the 1970 LT-1 350 aluminium intake that came with a 780 Holley. This intake is a over the counter early 90s Bowtie intake made for oval track racing in classes that requires a iron intake. GM cast it so a Holley or a Q-jet could be used. The original only had a Holley pattern. Other than the carb flange and being cast in iron, it's identical to the original LT-1 unit. I've had a few of those too. I also have an example of pretty much every Q-jet ever made. I built alot of Pontiacs back in the day. Have a 63 SD 421 Catalina now. Came stock with 2 Carter AFBs. Collecting parts for a monster stroker Pontiac engine for it now. 421 was blown up in 1970 racing NHRA Stock class. Has B/W 4spd and 4-30 gear Safe-T-Track rear. My first engine I built back 40+yrs ago was a 67 400 Pontiac. Had a 67 Firebird, 70 GTO, 71 Gran Prix SJ and a few 2nd gen Trans Arms. Also a couple G-body Gran Prix with Pontiac engines swapped in them. I have 7 Pontiac 400s and 455s now and a 61 389. Shitload of parts too. I'll always be a Pontiac guy. Also have a G-body 86 Bonneville with a bigblock Chevy, but I'm gonna build a Pontiac to swap into it eventually. I have a 73 TA shaker scoop I want to use on it. Came stock with a 305 SBC.

I have 3 of those Holley Spreadbore carbs. 650 Vac secondary, 650 double pumper and a 800 double pumper. Built a 84 305 L-69 engine years ago for MPG to drive to work, used the 650 Vac sec on it with a performer intake made for Q-jet, a 260 HE Comp Cam, 416 heads mildly cleaned up with 1.84/1.50 stainless valves, 1 5/8 headers, 200R4 trans with a 3.42 gear in a 85 Gran Prix, it got just over 30mpg on the highway. Ran good too. That 650 Spreadbore worked real good.

I built a NHRA K/SA L-69 305 that ran high 11s in a 83 Malibu wagon back in the 90s. Had a Q-jet on it. 200 metric trans, 5000 stall BTE converter and 5-13 geared 12-bolt, 30x9x15 slicks on 15x10 wheels. Only had .390/410 lift, and a shitload of duration. 105 lobe separation. Schewbeck lifters etc. Everything was at the maximums and minimums. Stock intake & heads pretty much. Mallory ignition & Hooker 1.75 prim Super Comp headers about all that stood out. Also built a couple "Stock" Oldsmobile engines too. I liked the challenge of it. Cost to much these days tho. Hard to compete with millionaires.

Yeah, nothing like the good old days for affordable racing. That RA/IV,in the crate, was only $600 plus $30 Illinois tax.A lot of power for the buck.At the same time my best man was putting a built LT1 in his original ‘65 Chevelle SS.His engine came with that original intake on it.To cut cost,he still used the stock cam and valve train. Most money was in the balancing and blueprinting.

Even at 1st glance those runners are huge. Almost cartoonish huge compared to most. You can really notice it on the #7 runner how it buldges out of the "roof" of the manifold where the Edelbrock is basically flat (no buldge). Great score man. Would be perfect for a sleeper.

Wow, those have some good size ports!😯 Charles Servedio cylinder head & flow bench claims just about every RPM Airgap style intake only flows around 220 CFM without any porting. That one looks like it is capable of a bit more? One of those would be cool for Eric Whiner to dyno test on his 406 dyno mule.😎👍

Charlie flow tested one of these and it was in the high 250s. He said it's the baddest dualplane he ever tested. All the ones I've seen tested flowed in the 250-260cfm range. They will support over 500+hp as is & pull to 7000 rpm. More with alittle work. I've heard of people getting them over 300cfm. They definitely have the volume. Funny thing is they are based on a 55+yr old design. They got it right back then. Hell, this particular intake is over 30yrs old itself. Still in excellent condition.

The original intakes like this were aluminum. This intake came out in 1993 for dirt track racing for classes that require a cast iron intake. So GM cast it in iron. But it's made from the mold that was used to cast the aluminum 67-69 302 and 70-72 LT-1 350 intakes. They added a Q-jet bolt pattern and modified the carb mount area. It's not a production intake, so it never came on nothing. It's a GM Bowtie over the counter unit. I have some old 327 intakes and they are nothing like this.

I'm pretty sure they used the old tooling that they cast the 302 Z-28 & LT-1 intakes with back in 67-72. They just revised the carb mounting flange. Runners are identical.
