BEST RV BOONDOCKING SITE!!! Flaming Gorge UT + Uinta Mountain Hike + Wild Horses + HUGE Bird Colony

We travel to northern Utah up into the Uinta Mountain Range and The Flaming Gorge Reservoir where we RV boondock 5 miles out on the very tip of the peninsula. This is our best boondocking location yet! We also visit a Wild Horse corral in Rock Springs, UT and kayak out to see a HUGE lake swallow colony that is built into the cliff face near our campsite. Join us for the fun!

I love wildlife shots like you got, Elk ,antalope , wild horses two. Thumbs up video Homie. Interesting story on john wesley , did not know he started way up that far on the green river. Those guys were some tough hombre"s. What a adventure that must of been. Good idea to boondock in Jackson hole you guys. We paid 135.00 a night to stay in a RV park there. OMG. Your in some fantastic country up there guys, cant wait to see the next vid.

@Rob Hebbs We really loved that area Rob. Glad you enjoyed the wildlife shots, too. Ya, can’t even imagine traveling down that river like those guys did not having any idea of what they would run into. You’re right, not sure they make ‘em like that anymore. Those RV park prices are insane. So glad to be able to camp for free out there. As always, thanks for watching and commenting!

@Don Davis Hey there Don! We were there for a week and would have extended our stay, however, we had some packages being delivered up in Jackson that we had to pick up. My only advice, don’t stay there on a holiday weekend. Lots of people ended up crowding the tip of the peninsula and their kids had.a ball racing their 4 wheelers right past our camper (over and over and over again). After the weekend when they were gone, it was sooooo peaceful and serene.

I first saw that spot in Flaming Gorge on Grand Adventure. We had planned on camping there as well when we left the Tetons, but changed our mind and went to Lamoille Canyon by Elko, Nevada. Marc had mentioned that canyon to us and we went there instead. It was nice to see another prospective camping site on the peninsula. Marc was at the very end right corner as I recall. It looked like it could get pretty windy out there on the end. Thanks Ed 👍🏼 Ram

@Laughing Ram I'll have to look that canyon up. Have not heard of it before. Your recollection is correct. He warned us not to try going down into the tamarisk with our larger rigs. After seeing it, I would say he was right. It got windy where we were as well. Made the mistake of leaving our pop up canopy out while we went out for the afternoon. A storm came through and destroyed it. 😢 $100 later, lesson learned. As always, thanks for watching and commenting Ram!

@@EddieAtLarge Grand Adventure tried to go to the Lamoille Canyon in episode 220, but was not able to because of landslides and it is now closed indefinitely. Sorry about the pop-up. In our earlier days of tent camping, we came back to our camp with our tent blown into a nearby Bob-wired fence. Fortunately we were able to get it unhooked while the wind was blowing and get it relocated further inland into the lee of some thick brush. I was ready to just pack it up and head home, but we persevered and ended up having a great time. That was at a place called Ocean Cove, which is located just north of the Russian Fort Ross on the coast of California. Beautiful area along the Pacific Ocean. Ram

Great to travel virtually with Homie at Large to one of our favorite spots! I've got an e-copy of John Wesley Powell's journal from that expedition and it's a really interesting read. And you didn't know this, but Powell is in Todd C's family tree! (Even though we thought that tree was more like a bare stump.) Finally, whatever you do, don't ever try to fly a drone near a colony of barn swallows. Don't ask me how I know.

@Grand Adventure Thanks again for pointing us to this incredible location! I’ll have to look that journal up. So that’s where Todd gets his crazy adventure gene from. It’s all starting to make sense. OK, I won’t ask about the drone / swallow encounter, but, I can certainly imagine the scenario. 😂

Looks like an awesome place, we are heading that direction around Wednesday. Wondering what the road is like in? Hauling a 38’ fifth wheel and an additional UTV trailer behind that. Is there room to turn around with our rig if it seems too busy there? Thanks for your video and any information you are willing to share.

  • @EddieAtLarge

Hi Kim, the road in was actually very good. It is a dirt/gravel road with washboard, however, it was one of the better dirt roads that we've traveled. There are some places to turn around once you get down into the lower area and you should be fine hauling your 5th wheel and UTV trailer. However, I would recommend scouting with your UTV or truck and securing a spot before heading down as it will get busy for the holiday week. There's a pulloff at this location that we used to drop the camper and scout: 40.967575, -109.465794 Hope that info helps. Have fun out there!

Hey Ed, personal stalker here from Coldspring. Nice video of a place I am determined to get to out on that peninsula. I take it this was filmed during the summer sometime? We have a trip planned up to Pinedale, Wyoming in May and on our first night heading back to Texas I wanted to stay out on that peninsula but because it will be on a saturday night in late May we opted for a reserved campsite down the highway a little higher up in the mountains at Pine Forest RV Resort. Hope you guys are doing well.

@Crypto Overdrive Hey John! We are doing well, thank you. You will love it there. We were there in end of May / beginning of June and it was fairly warm at the time. So, really perfect timing for you to get out there. Temps ranged from 65F to 85F while we were there with lows in the 40s overnight. I will say though, if you'll be there Memorial Day weekend, you'll most likely have some issues getting a spot on the peninsula. We got there early in the week prior to the holiday and got pretty lucky to have secured the spot that we did. When you go to Pinedale, check out boondocking on Soda Lake. Easy access with good cell service and great sites. We'll have a video coming up soon for that as well. Glad to hear you'll be expanding your travels!

@@EddieAtLarge Thanks for that info! Yes I was definitely thinking in terms of the weekend traffic at that awesome boondocking spot. We will have our 2 granddaughters with us so we opted for more reliable travel plans. We will definitely check out Soda Lake while we are in Pinedale. We have reserved our 6 day stay at Freemont Lake campground but will be exploring that whole area for sure and maybe we'll get crazy and do a little filming. I know of some good KZread channels to learn from :-) Cheers!!

@Crypto Overdrive Good call on the reservations. Soda Lake was much easier to get a spot when we were there in mid-August. Sounds like you'll have a good time with the kids. Freemont Lake is nice too and Pinedale is a cool little town. Yes, do some filming! It's nice to have the memories to look back on.

Re: the horses, the only reason they pen them up is because people are allowed to raise cattle on public lands. The horses interfere with the capitalist cattle ranchers. The horses lead awful shitty lives penned up in there and it’s all because of peoples addictions to hamburgers. There are so many reasons to go plant-based vegan and this is a really big one. Cattle are the reason they rein in and kill wild horses as well as wolves and anything else that could interfere with cattle ranching. I’m sorry but public lands should not be used for commercial cattle ranching. I’d rather see wild horses. Makes me sad.
