The 23 Exceler features a new ATD Type-L drag. If you look at the inside of the spool you can notice the grooves where the drag clicker ticks over now has an asymmetrical pattern, this allows the spools to turn more easily. I could feel the easier start up with the 23 Exceler comparing to my 17 Exceler.

Noticed was actually plastic after I bought it whilse it's metal on the LTD, and actually switch the spool onto the new one and seemed to work so interested to see how that would go, could have two different lines for smaller/larger species

I’d say that below the Certate price point it’s the best bargain in the market. Around 200 you can get a vanford that is crazy good but in practical fishing there are not many advantages to spend twice or more of the exceler budget

Good video Lee. Looks better than my Daiwa caldia, that thing wasnt cheap and after 1 fall it broke, had it sent off to fix it and still came back broken. Will never spend over $200 on a Daiwa reel again. This thing looks good. Might have to get one to replace the caldia. Look forward to your next video.

Hi Office thanks for the review. Im not liking the Robocop/Liquid Metal robot 🤖 look as appearing in other Daiwa reels but my main gripe would be the super shallow spool as on the 21 PRESSO LT 2000SS-P. They say its the perfect amount of line for finesse applications - could someone over there explain why or how it helps with finesse? Like fly rod tippet youre constantly cutting the line so if you fish regularly (unlike those 🤐at Daiwa) you'll be worried with a flimsy amount on the spool.

  • @fishermansoffice

Beautiful thing it is differences in opinion, however i definitely like the look of the new one over the predecessor. With regards to the spool capacity, 90% of the time I have found I end up wasting half of my line on deep spooled reels due to it not casting nearly as well as the spool capacity reduces due to loss of line from retieing etc. What benefits it has to the "finesse" approach you mentioned is that a shallow spool enables for more accurate and further casts especially using light lures like soft plastics and the likes.. Further more a shallow spool still holds quite a fair bit of line, using trout fishing as an example, I have never once had one spool me. In the case of finesse bream fishing - particularly off a kayak or boat you are usually at a much closer range to the fish dragging them from structure like pontoons and pylons hardly requiring the need for hundreds of metres of main line.

@@fishermansoffice Nice one, and thats where 📺📽like these give a bit more of an insight or opportunity for feedback and commentary that you wouldnt get off the 🐋🐳 i.e. the manufacturers and shop owners. I get now 🧐where compact surface areas or spools can make casting better 🙏

Why is Daiwa a much more popular fishing reel brand in Australia than Shimano? Maybe there are economic reasons? I am asking the question here in Europe, because in our country Shimano reels are a little more popular because they have a slightly more robust construction and are more durable than Daiwa, in general.I speak from experience because I not only use both brands but also service the fishing reels.

Hey mate, Awesome to see comments like this and discussion around quality/popularity etc. I would put it down to the way Daiwa Australia has done its job from a Marketing perspective getting the product out there and flooding social media by use of popular KZread creators and the likes of instagram influencer types also. Having said that they do make a quality product so like anything marketing only gets you so far. Shimano though their range is that of a similar volume and quality or arguably better to some opinions, is not marketed nearly as aggressively in this area. Daiwa also seemingly are always trying to come up with something new and sharing it yet I look at shimano and it sort of feels stagnant to me as far as what is being upgraded or changed (not to say that that is actually the case) but if you asked me if I knew what new stuff has been happening with shimano gear I wouldn't know because I never see shimano come up in my feed with what's happening or what they are bringing to the light tackle market.

@@fishermansoffice Hello. I only reacted and asked after seeing the differences. In most Australian videos, Daiwa reels are preferred over Shimano. I just wanted an answer to why. Maybe we don't know the secret. But thank you for your answer!

@@achonakin7361I've always been told shimano for reels over the yrs, not that I've ever tried any but only reason I went with Daiwa was just from looks of what I liked. And I hear Daiwa doesn't do any field testing of the new production line they just chuck it on the market and opposite for shimano, so I'd say that's why from marketing stand point they get more attention .

  • @fishermansoffice

Safe to assume the main black handle that you hold in your hand while using would be what is mentioned here. Furthermore on that. Understanding that it is frustrating to have issues with something you use alot for enjoyment, Manufacturers warranty exists to correct these sorts of issues - no brand or product is immune from issues at times so consulting with your tackle shop usually sorts these niggles out nicely. I had to do similar with one of my previous generation Exceller reels where it had an anti reverse issue - the reel was sent back and repaired at no cost to me 👌 Being a removable handle in this case if your confidence is that shaken from it I'd just buy a quality 3rd party reel handle and do away with the original.
