In case of the cable having sufficient bandwidth (eg: HDMI) , LPCM is the best selection for sure because the sound content from the game will not be changed or encoded as Dolby or DTS which needs less bandwidth and has only maximum 5.1 channels. On the other hand, if you have a sound bar (with or without Satellite rear speakers), choosing Sound bar in PS5 will be the best option over the AV Amplifier. Many people mentioned that selecting Sound bar in PS5 would not offer 7.1 channels just because they see the 7.1 speakers would be deem and unadjustable. In fact, the way of sound bars make audience feels like having 7.1 speakers is totally different concept from an AV Amplifier handling actual 5.1 or 7.1 speakers. Choosing AV Amplifier might let you feel the sound more sharp, noisy, closer to the audience whatever mode (Cinema or movie) selected in your Soundbar, but that means the setting is not right and you will never feel the proper effect from the mode you selected in your sound bar.

If you do go with the soundbar option, what would you suggest we do with in game Surround Sound settings as shown at 6:39? Turn it off? I have the q800c 5.1.2 channel soundbar (no rear speakers) so I am unsure how best to configure everything.

Hello. Your soundbar is a 5.1.4 setup. In the ps5, set the sound as av receiver, 5.1 channels and lpcm. Is going to be the best match for your soundbar. And after that, check in the game the last of us if automatically recognize as a 5.1. This should work better for you. If doesnt recognize as 5.1, some configuration is wrong in your tv or your soundbar. Remember that when using uncompressed audio, is normal that the volume is lower compared to dolby and dts compressed. Just raise the volume and thats it :) Hope this helps. Hi Luan! Congratulations on the video! I have a question. I have the Samsung Q700B soundbar (earc etc..) which is 3.1.2 (3.1.4 counting the 2 rear channels of the tv, using a-symphony). Should I set it to "Soundbar" or "AV Amplifier" by choosing 5.1? I did a test, and in both choices (soundbar and av), choosing the PCM, on the display of the soundbar it says "PCM Multi Channel", so I assume it is surround, and not stereo, therefore excellent. But I would like to understand which of the two options is better, that is, AV or Soundbar. Thank you very much in advance! Greetings from Italy!

Hello :) If it says PCM Multi Channel, you have uncompressed surround sound, you have everything configured correctly :). Set your PS5 to AV RECEIVER and manually, set to 5.1, that is the correct way. If you set to soundbar, you cant set manually the channels from your soundbar that is capable of 5.1 ch, with that, the channels will have highes sounds, lowera sounds... So make sure to ser to av receiver + 5.1 :)

  • @TheLfkfelipe

Hello. Yes, thats correct. The uncompressed audio LPCM always will sound lower than the old dolby digital and dts. You just have to raise the sound volume and thats it. Dolby digital and dts, are flat and they sound louder because their technology just raise the sound volume to appear that is good. The input lagg is horrible because of the compression of the audio. And also, when you set to dolby or dts, the maximum channels that this format send to the soundbar or av is 5.1 with lots of limitations. Dolby digital: max bitrate: 769 kbps Dts - 1.5 mb p/s LPCM umcompressed: more than 20 MB/S. The difference is enormous.

Hello Tornacense. Hello Zèv, Unfortunately, your soundbar is not capable of Uncompressed audio. For example, the maximum bandwitch audio supported by normal ARC is ~1Mbit per second. Knowing this, you can only use the dolby compressed option on the ps5, that supports normal 5.1 compressed audio. The EARC on the other hand supports a bandwitch of ~37Mbit per second, and this can do uncompressed 5.1, 7.1, true hd, dts-hd... So, your way to go is use all the settings I showed you on the Video, but, on the ps5, change the audio to dolby and to 5.1 channels. Hello Rupe. I dont have knowleadge about your sound, but from what I searched, the only thing you could do is use the optical cable from your tv to your sound system. Your sound system only supports 2 channels, so if you use the ps5, set to LPCM, and output as TV. And on your tv, you have to change the output sound to optical.

greetings! thank you for the informations! then. I did exactly as you showed. the tv supports eARC but HT doesn't, it's just ARC. I use a hdmi 2.1 cable just for that. What happened was that the corresponding option to "pass the audio directly" was only enabled on the tv when I selected Dolby on the ps5. When I select pcm it even gets 5.1 (I used tlou to test) and I didn't notice a considerable difference. my question is: would it be better to leave everything selected in pcm or dolby, with the option of direct transmission, is it better? I can't see a noticeable difference...

  • @TheLfkfelipe

    @TheLfkfelipe

    11 ай бұрын

Yes, thats the problem. If the HT just support Arc, you cannot have uncompressed audio, thats why you dont notice difference between them. What happens is that your soundbar is downmixing all the sound data to a simple lossy 5.1 pcm, so, theres no much difference with the normal dolby. . Your way to go is selecting the dolby compressed audio option on your ps5. If you get to much input lagg, select then pcm. In my youtube channel, Ive uploaded a video where I explain better the differences between arc and earc. Hope I helped Please, subs to the channel :)

The best is standard, all the other modes do upmixing from what you give it so 2.1 will be 11.1.4 and etc. The best and most accurate mode is Standard and the rest just do upmixing with different eq settings. Adaptive is the worse since it adjusts eq on the go which so some sounds will be louder or quiet randomly

Hello Fabian. No, use always the av receiver option, and change manually to 5.1 on the menu of your ps5. And, on the menu of your games, it depends. Some games will send the sound automatically to your sound bar following the configuration of the menu of your ps5, like the game the last of us and some you will have to choose manually, but always choose 5.1 or home theater... The sound bar option on the ps5 makes the sound weard for soundbars with multichannel capabilities, so never use that.

Hi Ross. Maybe your Yamaha had some feature to improve the delay from the compressed dolby or dts...it could me many things... But anyway, theres no reason to use the dolby or dts on the ps5 if you have an av receiver that is capable of receiving all the data of an uncompressed audio. For your system, set to av receiver, lpcm, and to 5.1 that is the closest that your receiver is capable of. If you set to 7.1, the sound is not going to be accurate on your system.

Hey, could you help me too? I'm just a little frustrated. Although I have set everything up as you have shown, I still have some unanswered questions. I would really be very grateful if you could answer this. About my setting: LG OLED65CX9 LA Sonos Beam 2 Gen Sonos Sub Mini 2 x Sonos One SL Regarding my questions: 1. Why do you set the "Bitstream" format in the LG setting HDMI Input Auto Format and the "Linear PCM" setting in the PS5? Doesn't that overlap? 2. Isn't PCM just intended for setting up stereo systems (2.0)? or am I confusing something? 3. You also select AV amplifier in the PS5 settings, even if you don't have an AV amplifier, did I understand that correctly? (Because you mention in the video that you connected the PS5 directly to the TV and the TV directly to the sound system (there is no AV amplifier in between) If yes, why? The sound from the Playstation actually comes to the TV and through the settings (scrolling) of the TV it goes directly to the sound system. So shouldn't you choose TV instead of AV amplifier? 4. I get the Multiroom Channel PCM 5.1 format via the Sonos app. displayed. As you described in the video, this is the best format. However, I have read in other forums that this format is the worst. Here, for example, described by a user that when Multichannel is displayed in the Sonos app, the wrong setting is present: (If it shows LPCM 7.1 MULTICHANNEL or 5.1 MULTICHANNEL that means it is not PASSING THROUGH correctly. MULTICHANNEL is the key word while Looking at your Sonos App while playing a NON ATMOS movie. If it says MULTICHANNEL then it is not working as it should be. IF IT DOESN”T SAY MULTICHANNEL that means it is pass through correctly and that the problem lies within the PHYSICAL APPLE 4K TV AND “THIN” APPLE TV APPS PROVIDED WITHIN THE CX AND Xbox and PS5 Apps.) Could you explain me, what is the correct way?

  • @TheLfkfelipe

@MrBlackDeath18 Hello. Yes of course. 1 - You set to bitstream on your tv to make sure it doesnt compress any data from the sound that is being sent from your ps5 to the soundbar. What you want is your tv to send all data uncompressed to your soundbar, and your sounbar do all the job of mixing the sound to 5.1, 7.1, dolby, DTS... 2 - No, PCM is an uncompressed audio that is capable to send up to 7.1 channels to your compatible soundbar or av receiver. However, the soundbar must be compatible with the LPCM uncompressed audio, if is not, will only be converted to a simple 2.0 channel. On the Q990B, you can see on the video that is compatible and works perfectly. Also, today, with the last update from Sony, you can set the ps5 as Dolby Atmos that adds up firing sound to compatible soundbars. 3 - Yes, using LPCM option and AV receiver, you can change the speakers positions accordingly with your speakers position on your room to have the most accurate sound. On the TV, you have to make sure that you have the Bitstream, passthrough and EARC activated, then your tv doesnt make any compression in the process. Just think that doing this, its like the PS5 is connected directly to the soundbar, that is the functionallity of the EARC port from your TV, the video is sent to your tv, and the sound is sent directly to the soundbar. You can search more videos to understand better, but this is the most simple way to explain. 4- If you are getting Multi channel 5.1,you've done everything correctly :), you are receiving umcompressed audio with almost zero Input lagg :). On the forums, theres a lot of people that doesnt understand this format and says bullshit that this is worst. How can be worst if LPCm can send up to 37 Megabytes of metadata of sound to your soundbar, and when you select Dolby or DTS compressed, only can send up to 1 Megabytes of metadata ? On my channel, I uploaded a video explaining the formats of audio and their capabilities, maybe it will help you to understand better. Just remember, its normal that LPCm can sounds lower, you just have to raise the volume up and thats it. What dolby and dts does, as being compressed, all the sound are raised up, and looks like is better, but its not, it sound bad and also have a lot of input lagg while playing. Regarding the comment of the guy, his mentioning another issue while watching apple tv, that supports DOLBY ATMOS. If you are watching dolby atmos content, and your app shows Multi channel, something is wrong in the configurations. Beside all that Ive explained to you above, the PS5 now supports Dolby Atmos on the recent update, so, just choose that option on the pS5, and keep the settings as I show you on the Video, and you will get a Full Dolby Atmos sound, that is better than LPCM. If you have a APPLE 4K PLAYER, your tv must be configured on the same way that is on my video, and of course, you have to configure your apple 4k player to send the datacorrectly to your soundbar. Is the same with any device, android box, netflix... Dont use the PS5 to watch netflix, apple tv, HBO ... as ps5 doesnt supports dolby vision and dolby atmos for streaming content, just for playing games. Hope I Helped, Please subs to the channel :)

@@TheLfkfelipe First of all, thank you very much for the good and quick answer!!!! ❤ I also have another question about the PS5 update. Does it make sense to set Dolby Atmos because it also compresses the sound like DTS or Dolby Audio, right? I also read that Dolby Atmos is only worthwhile in conjunction with an X.Y.Z sound system (e.g. 5.1.2 or 7.1.2), because Dolby Atmos takes the ceiling systems (z) into account. That's why I don't know whether I should set linear pcm or dolby atmos.

If your room is big, maybe you loose a little bit the details, so then, the 5.1 will be the best option, however, you are making a Huge mistake, dont use the dolby option, that is a compressed audio that will add input lagg to your sound. Your soundbar will automatically play the sound with the settings you have set on your ps5 (dolby atmos, lpcm...). That's why you have to set your tv to passthrough. If you set your tv to pcm, your tv will take all the sound data and compress it to 2.0 channels. Please, subs to the channel :)

@OutKastWill2012 your soundbar unfortunately doesn't have an earc port to play LPCM uncompressed audio or Dolby ATMOS. You can play only compressed 5.1 channels. So there's 2 options. First of all, make sure your tv is set to passthrough or bitstream... On your ps5, set to av receiver, 5.1 channels and LPCM, and check if on the game the last of us it shows 5.1 ch. With LPCM, you will have the lowest input lag while playing games. If this doesn't work, you will have to set ps5 to the old sound modes Dolby or dts, and unfortunately, they have a bit of input lag. Don't use Dolby atmos because your soundbar doesn't support it

Yeah I left it as audio pass trough and bitstream on the TV, but on the console I could never get tlou to show 5.1 with pcm, only with either dolby audio, dolby atmos or dolby dts was I able to get the game to show auto 5.1

@OutKastWill2012 Yes, Unfortunately as your soundbar doesn't have Earc port, you can't have 5.1 or 7.1 LPCM uncompressed audio. Don't use Dolby atmos because what atmos does is up firing speakers, and your soundbar doesn't have them, so you could lose some sound details. Use Dolby or DTS with 5.1. 👍

It feels strange to me. Why select Bitstream on TV for HDMI where PS5 is connected, and then select PCM in PS5 options?

Hi Enrico. Because you dont want your tv do any kind of conpression for the sound that is being sent to your sound bar. Leaving in bitstream, the sound passthrough your tv, and your soundbar decodes the uncompressed audio into 7.1 channels. The option of pcm on lg cx, is just recommended when using the tv speakers.

The ps5 option of LPCM, is the pure audio without compression. When you select this option, the ps5 sends up to 37 megabites of sound data to your soundbar, and your soundbar, decodes this data into 7.1 channels, or 5.1...depends of the capabilities of your soundbar

Hello Cameron. Ps5 doesnt support dolby atmos for gaming, only if you watch a bluray movie (DISC) which I dont recommend because the ps5 doesnt support DOLBY VISION as well. THen you have to set to dolby , and you need to do a different configuration on the ps5. Theres is some videos on you tube showing how to set up.

This is incorrect as Brian Slack, DTS engineer, explains in the video below. PCM - the source device (br/uhd player, console etc) decodes the digital sound data and sends it as max 7.1 (PCM has max 8 channels) signal to the TV/Receiver/Soundbar with no sound object metadata (height/ 3D placement). Bitstream (Dolby & DTS options shown) - the source device sends the digital sound data (including the additional sound object meta data required for Atmos and DTS:X) directly to the TV/Receiver/Soundbar so the receiver can decode the DTS or Dolby digital signals according to it's own specifications. Compression isn't a factor. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eIh1q7xxg7Gan84.html&ab_channel=MovieUniversity

Hello @casualAlarmist. In the ps5 the compression it is a factor. When you select the Dolby or dts option, you are receiving in the soundboard a simple dts and Dolby digital format, compressed with high input lagg. Right now the maximum audio quality that ps5 can pass-through to a receiver or soundbar is the uncompressed pcm at maximum of 7.1 channels with no sound object height or 3d placement. You can see at the game the last of us when changing to Dolby and dts in the ps5, that the game automatically identifies as a 5.1 channels, and is very noticeable the compression of the sound, is flat in comparison with the pcm. Another way for checking is on the soundboard display, as it shows as simple dts, and simple Dolby digital content. Ps5 does not support Dolby digital plus, true HD, atmos for gaming (this will change on the next update) or DTSHD dtsx.

I saw the video at the link you shared, and he's explanation only matters for blu-ray players or some player devices which supports all uncompressed types of audio as: Pcm uncompressed 5.1, 7.1 Dolby true HD: Dolby atmos is inside this format Dts-hd - Dts-x Ps5 doesn't support uncompressed Dolby true hd and DTShd for now. You can search the especifications of the ps5 at the official website or in blogs of professional people who will give you more details.

Hello. Both are compressed. Dolby Digital and DTS, they have a maximum audio bandwich of 1 megabyte per second, Multichannel PCM in the other hand can reach an audio bandwich of 37 megabytes per second. Examples of Uncompressed sound formats: Multichannel pcm Dolby true hd/dolby atmos DTS HD-MA - DTS-X If you search on my channel, the last video ive uploaded, I explain better the differences

No, Im not wrong, the sound is perfectly correct, im receiving uncompressed 7.1 lpcm on my soundbar and I can, change the position of the speakers in the way I like when is on avr, I can, change to 5.1, 7.1...and this changes can be seen at the game TLOUS... For sure you are doing something wrong that the sound is missing Just remember, when is uncompressed audio, you have to raise the volume higher, thats totally normal
