Looking for Performance Pants? In this video I’m reviewing 12 different performance pants from popular brands. I rank them from best to worst using 7 different criteria: stretch, appearance, construction (quality), waistband, pockets, value for the money, non-wrinkle performance.
In this video you'll learn in this vide which pants are worth buying for your wardrobe... and which pants to pass on - even if you see them discounted online.

Here is an in-depth summary transcription (added 11-28-2023):
The video is a comprehensive review of 12 different performance pants, ranging from popular brands like Lululemon and Bonobos to online brands like Bird Dogs and Bylt and TruWear. Nobody is sponsoring this video, and I purchased all the pants myself.
Performance pants are a middle ground between jeans and slacks with superb comfort and versatility. There are seven criteria I use to evaluate the pants in this video: fabric, appearance, construction and quality, waistband, pockets, value for money, and non-wrinkle performance.
Here are the pants ranked from #12 to #1
12- BYLT Has issues with terrible pockets and overly stretchy material.
11- BIRDDOGS Despite clever advertising, disappointing due to uncomfortable material, lack of stretch, and excessive wrinkling.
10- LEE Known for their budget-friendly options, earn praise for their value but have shallow pockets and less comfortable fabric.
09 - OUTLIER A brand targeting a high-fashion crowd, receives criticism for its stiff waistband, lack of flexibility, and high price.
08 - BONOBOS Despite a dressy appearance, falls short in terms of stretch and comfort.
07- TWILLORY Comfortable pants with nice material but overall mixed reviews due to a lack of flexibility in the waistband, shallow pockets, and an awkward inseam.
06- LULULEMON Commended for its comfortable material, high stitch count, and well-constructed design, but criticized for a cheap zipper and an unusual seam on the back of the knee.
05- RHONE Commuter pants are praised for their lightweight fabric, high stitch count, and nice zipper, with minor drawbacks including shallow pockets and a less flexible waistband.
04- IZOD Izod's Advantage Performance Stretch Pants stand out for their comfort, stretch, and affordability, although they are marked down for being somewhat hard to find.
03- TRUWEAR The Prodigy Dress Pants receive positive reviews for their fabric, stretch, and comfortable waistband, with the only drawback being limited color options.
02- JACK ARCHER Earns high praise for its comfort, lightweight fabric, and innovative features like anti-ball crush technology, but is criticized for occasional pricing games. Overall a close second place due to its comfortable material, flexibility in the waistband, and overall well-rounded performance.
01- BLUFFWORKS The Envoy Lightweight Travel Pants take the top spot for their formal appearance, stretch, quality construction, and comfortable waistband.
The video concludes with tips for buyers, including being cautious of online advertising claims, ensuring the ability to return purchases, opting for slim fit, checking material composition for stretch, and not relying too heavily on stain resistance claims.

Thanks for watching. More review videos coming soon!
I got two pairs of DKNY performance Fred tech pants from Nordstrom rack online. I walk 6-8miles while working everyday at the hospital lifting medical equipment bending down to check connections. They’re my absolute favorite to wear and I bought a second pair to go out in the town with they’re honestly the best I’ve ever worn. I’m 6’2, 210lbs muscular male 44 years old. Pants were $25, $33 with shipping.
I literally have no idea how I got algo'd for this video, but this may be one of the best review videos I've ever seen. Simple, straightforward, consistent comparisons.

I watched this with great interest because I've got 2 pairs of Bluffworks in the mail, so it was great to see them come out on top. Looking forward to getting mine!
Appreciate the work you put into this. It’s a brave new world for commuter slacks

Thank you for indexing. Great video
The zipper on the Lululemons is actually a YKK zipper which is basically the gold standard in quality pants zippers.
Maybe the best review I have ever seen on YT. THANK YOU
Thank you. Very worthwhile information.
Great video. Will go watch the shirts one also. I already have Jack Archers and they are great. Just a tad bit thin at the waist, but the stretch helps a lot. I would wonder about the Vouri meta pants comparison also. As I really like their shorts & polos
Thanks so much for your informative reviews. This and last year's dress shirt list are both exceptional in terms of the thoroughness, organization, and thoughtfulness. I'd not heard of Bluffworks until watching the shirt video and have found them to be as great as advertised, and I also love getting new ideas from your videos. Much appreciated and I hope to see more videos like this! Perhaps performance five-pocket pants? All the best.

Thank you Brad, I followed your advice and tried Bluffworks. I've now bought two of their travel pants, two chinos, and will be picking up the Presido suit on Monday from the tailor. You helped this 54-year-old guy find new work wear for his aging dad bid!

Great video, nicely done
I have the Jack Archers and the Lululemon pants. I think they’re comparable but the Lululemon fit better with the inseam being a bit short on the Jack Archer. Speaking of pricing games, the reason I pulled the trigger on the Jack Archer pants was because the prices dropped to $52 when I added them to my cart… I thought it was too good to be true.
Best review. Finally, some details! He's a good man...and thorough. I love Jack Archer. But I cannot get over the non-locking fly zipper.
Saved me a ton of time, thank you!
This is a really helpful video. Thank you!
props for this value video!
Great video. Thanks!
Thanks for going to the effort on this. And expense. I bought Bluffworks the year they started, but found them to have too much static cling. But the fit and quality were great.
Great reviews! Both your Dress Shirts and Performance Pants videos cover brands that I have been researching for a while. You have convinced me to try a brand that I've been waiting to pull the trigger on. Thank you! Keep the review series going! I enjoy watching videos like this to help enhance my wardrobe. Items like dress/performance pants, dress shirts, polos, etc are a staple of any gentlemen's closet. Looking forward to your next review!

Of these pants I only own BYLT and Lululemon. I like both a lot, but I think the BYLT ones are my favorite. I’m a pediatric physical therapist so I enjoy how stretchy the BYLT pants are, but I agree with the pockets. I’ll have to try some of the other ones you recommend.

Great video!!! My major problem is low rise. Almost all these fashion brands go to a low rise which is horrible for me because I feel like my pants are always falling off. I hate wearing belts but forced to use a ratchet belt to deal with this ongoing issue. I wish more companies would make midrise and advertise that fact for us guys with belt issues

Amazing vid! Been struggling to find proper chinos
Awesome vid. I've been using bluffworks since I retired in 2018. My only complaint is they are a little loud when walking (polyester whooshing) as the pant legs brush vs each other. I have chinos in 3 colors, 4 jeans, 1 5-pocket pants, 1 dress pant, and 2 sport coats. Awesome company with great customer service
I enjoyed your video, I ordered the truwear and lululemon, I like the material on lulus felt high quality but I would have liked the sticky waist grabber and also a bit baggy, I also ordered the truwear they definitely run small with slim fit the material like polyester they won’t wrinkle.
I saw your helpful video a couple of hours ago and went out to Kohls and purchased some Izod's for $35 and they fit great! Thanks so much!

This is THE BEST men's clothing review that I've seen I'd definitely be interested in seeing more of these as well. Vuori Meta Pants, Prana Brion, Mission Works Division, Western Rise Evolution & Diversion, Ministry of Supply Kinetic & Velocity, and the Myles Apparel Tour pants all get a lot of recommendations online, I'd love to try them all but I don't have that kind of money! Your reviews focus on the things I'm interested in, when so many reviews seem to focus mostly on looks.

On the Prana Brion: I have a pair from several years ago that are my favorite pants, and they still look brand new. I bought two pairs last year, and the fabric is completely different. It pills and snags very easily. The pants look trashed already. Would not recommend buying the new version. Better off going on eBay and finding an old pair.

I found the divisions to be too noisy, similar to the prana stretch zion, but noiser due that it's all synthetic materials. Also quite thin and cold in anything under 60F. Too pricey for what you get, also may need to hem them if you prefer a 30" inseam.
I love the Rhone product. Couldn’t tell you how many I own. I have been buying them for 10 years. I have the Gotham style which are a little heavier and dressier and the Resort style which are a little lighter and cooler for warmer weather. I have both styles in multiple colors. They just really perform well. AT full price they are on the expensive side, but I have always gotten at least a 20% discount or better.
Great video thanks for sharing
Great video. I bought a pair of the BYLT pants last year and returned them immediately, so I definitely agree with that rating. My current favorites in my closet are my Lululemon, that don't have the line on the knee, and my Banana Republic Traveler Pants, from the actual store, not Costco. Looks like I need to try the Bluffworks as well.

Thanks for the BluffWorks recommendation. I have their Ascender chinos and have been wondering about their Envoy lightweight pants. The Ascender chinos have worked great for me. I wish the “slim fit” was just slightly more tapered.
I wear mostly Lululemon, back knee seam doesn't bother me a bit. I kind of even prefer it after 5-6 pairs I had. Discovered Rhone Resort pants not long ago, very light and stretchy. Will wear Rhone Resort in the warmer days.
You r a good human being, took time to explain!
The Under Armour iso chill tapered golf pant is one I absolutely love. That is what I just 80% of the time.

Great reviews! For the last 10 years i’ve worn under armour golf pants. I love them and they held up beautifully. Lightweight, 3 season, never crush and the slim leg fit is perfect. At my age, i gave up jeans a long time ago. These are my every day casual slack paired with a polo or an untuckit
I've had a lot of luck with Bylt pants and shirts. They are definitely a brand that fits thinner/athletic bodies better. They are very slim fitting and I have chicken legs, so its a good match for me personally. definitely depends on your body size as to how much you'll like bylt. I do agree that they are more casual in style, I wouldn't wear them to work but they look great for a night out. The pockets are slightly smaller than average, but they have a nice hidden pocket on the side of your leg that works well for carrying my phone, and shockingly it isn't very noticeable or cheap looking. Great video btw!

Thanks for your comments. Just not a fan of Bylt compared to some of the other performance pants on this list. If I were comparing them to jeans or traditional chino's, I think they would probably be OK. To each his own... Bylt may work OK for some people.

@bradball I thought your video was very accurate, all great feedback. I think bylt just works for me due to my specific body, as they cater to my chicken legs lol. I look forward to your next clothing reviews!
Did a great job on showing us how the hands in the pockets really gave the pants “ elephant ears” look. I vote none of the above.
Great reviews. I spent all of this holiday season shopping for "travel pants." Without watching your review I still went with Bluffworks Envoy and 5 Pocket Pants. Thanks for the recommendation. I'll have to check them out.
I was gifted the Bylt pants last year and never wore them since they're a medium and a little big on me. But noticed I had them just sitting in the closet so wore them today and it's the most comfortable pant I've worn in years. I thought the pockets were a little small at first but I have a S23 Ultra with a bulky case and I can fit the whole thing in my pocket with room left over so idk...if you have anything bigger than that I'd expect most pant pockets to be too small. The pockets are also stretchy so perhaps they are larger than one might think. Even with a little too large of a size, the cut is flattering so should be even better when I get a better size (also they seem to have proper waist sizes now instead of letter sizes). The material is maybe too casual; hard to tell. I have them in Storm so maybe if I get something a little darker they'll look less like a jogger. Also after having them sitting in my closet for literally a year, they are barely wrinkled. There are also significantly more color choices than the other brands, from what I saw; most seem to have just black, gray, navy, and sometimes a green...so unless you literally never use any other colors, you'd have to go with multiple brands anyway. That said, the Jack Archers look quite nice and more like a chino, at a better price, so might give those a try as well.

Thanks for your comment. My experience with Bylt was a bit different. Unusual Pockets really bothered me. In all fairness, I compared them to other performance pants whereas I’d still probably prefer wearing the Bylt pants over a standard pair of dockers or old school chino’s without any stretch.

@@bradball I did pair them with some boots though and the material difference really stands out as a tech pant, especially with the opening literally squeezing the top of the boot rather than falling nicely around it. Hesitant to buy more for Winter, but probably would be a daily item in Summer with more casual shoes. Did a lot of research and am considering the Bluffworks and Banana Republic pants as better options when pairing with boots.
I loves my LuLus but have some Public Recs that are excellent.
Small detail that's not covered idten, belt loops. Five is typical but have noticed pants with 6 or 7 loops fit better, especially fir all day wear or if loading pockets for hiking or travel.

Lol I have the Bylt everyday joggers in all colors, and they actually have the best fit compared to lulus. The only complaints I have are the pockets and the plastic button.
I agree with the BYLT review. I don't trust the back pockets to put my wallet in and go out for the night because it will fall out. Yes… I’ve found that Bluffworks runs true.
I wear 100% cotton twill or canvas for work. I'm a maintenance man in a steel mill. I spend 12 hours a day squatting, climbing, crawling, twisting, and contorting. I've never had a problem with comfort or flexibility. They are Chinos that I wear. I'd suggest buying the correct size and cut for your body type. Then you don't need plastic pants with spandex. Neither of which are worth the cost per wear. Much less good for the environment.
Im surprised you didnt include Dockers and Lands End

I am looking at getting pants to wear at work. I work in the Emergency Department and hate scrub bottoms, even most of the higher end brands. I like the Lululemon ABC Warpstreme pant. Not overdressed (at least for me) and comfortable enough. I believe in looking good and presenting myself well. I am intrigued by the Bluffworks pants. Having been able to go to a Lululemon store I know exactly the size I need (33W, 34L) and can go online and have many color choices. If I do try Bluffworks I hope the same size translates and fits as well. Lulu also tailors the pants for free if needed. I may get the Bluffworks and compare since both offer free returns, although I would hate the delay in ordering, returning items and reordering. Thanks for the GREAT review!
