True even though he didn’t want to shoot Hamilton he was not willing to take that chance if ether Hamilton was going to shoot or not

What’s even more sad about this is that throughout the show Alexander stated multiple times that he _“Will not throw away my shot.”_ But in the end that’s exactly what he did. Also another sad bonus in the workshop version of this song it was actually split in two parts: the first half being Burr’s POV of the whole events and the second being Alexander’s POV. In that Alexander said that the reason he threw away his shot was because he thought Burr would do the same so that they _“could both live another day”_ The parchment he was writing in *Best of Wives* was actually a letter to Eliza and that he _“could have written it better”_ but didn’t have the time. He also referenced Philip a bit more (when he obviously realized where he was) and that he _”examined the gun that we shared, Philip _*_never_*_ hurt a soul. He must have been so _*_scared_*_ ”_ I love the final product, Alexander’s inner monologue speech before he gets shot is amazing, but these added quotes make that much more painful.

The extra heart-wrenching part is the original Burr line in "ten things one thing" where instead of "this man has poisoned my political pursuits" Burr sings "Just apologise, we have worthier pursuits!"

Actually...HISTORY FACT CHECK TIME! Raising your gun towards the sky was NOT an accepted way to "delope" - or throw away your shot - under the rules of the code duello! The proper way to "delope" was to fire at the GROUND. You start raising your gun, you're asking the other guy to shoot! Burr was quite within his rights to fire as soon as Hamilton started raising his gun, and honestly, if you read the real-life accounts, if Hamilton was trying not to shoot Burr, he did a kind of shitty job at it (Hamilton's bullet broke a tree branch directly above Burr's head). Bonus history fact check: their duel wasn't sparked by the election of 1800 - actually Burr and Hamilton remained on good terms after that and even worked together and had dinner together multiple times. The duel came about because Hamilton was talking shit all over the press about Burr and then the letter suggesting he had a really "despicable" opinion of him became public - some rumours say Hamilton was making implications about Burr's relationship with his daughter being "unnatural" - and basically Burr gave him every chance to apologise and Hamilton was just a little shit about it, which ends about as well as you'd expect.

Hamilton shot first, but it hit some trees behind and rustled a few leaves right beside Burr's head. Nobody knows if Hamilton meant to shoot Burr, but Burr had all rights to shoot after that. Hamilton didn't put his pistol to the sky or 'throw away his shot'.

Well I mean, irl, that's not why they dueled. They were on pretty ok terms. But then Alex started shitting Burr and Burr gave Alex a chance to apologize, but, a dick, Alex didn't. Blah blah blah, duel happened, blah blah blah, Alex dies.

When Christene said 'this is making my heart hurt' I just muttered '*same*'. This song always makes me flinch at least once. Usually at either the gunshot or 'raise a glass to freedom' or Burr's ending line. This musical is just one emotional rollercoaster after another...

You should watch Spamilton. I don't care which video they are all good

My heart cannot take this 😭😭😭😭 the part that got me was definitely elizas scream when Alexander died

*finally stops sobbing from the world was wide enough* I will never get to go to Hamilton, not because of tickets, but because I would be a wreck I would be curled up in a ball on the ground sobbing at every death

One thing I can always appreciate about this song is Burr's broken voice and the way he desperately makes excuses in the buildup. He sounds so hollow and the excuses of him wearing glasses to take deadly aim or making an orphan of his daughter...it's just really well constructed.

You should check out some of the cut content such as let it go and hamiltons version of the last ten commandments. Loving the reactions and the series! Keep at it!

If you want to have even more feels from this song, look up "Ten Things One Thing", a cut version of this song with Hamilton's perspective on it. There's also an interview Lin-Manuel has with Emma Watson where, to paraphrase, he mentions that overtime the two characters, Hamilton and Burr, change and become like the other and in the end, Burr didn't wait to take his shot while Hamilton went to throw his away. When I heard the play for the second time, the "not throwing away my...shot!" lines became forboding to me and made the play that much better to me.

That *"WAIT"* made me cry so badly...

I can't believe that the series is almost over. OMG MEH HEART! p.s. YAY SHES REACTING TO BENDY AND BORIS QUEST FOR THE INK MACHINE PART 2! I don't know about you guys but I'm hella excited for that.

AyChristene, the bass thumping after Burr shouts WAIT! following the gunshot is Alex's heartbeat until the bell tolling his death, the other thumping is Burr's heartbeat (there's also a cameo of Lin himself at his piano), but yea, Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story will be a Try Not To Cry, it is a tearjerker

I've seen and heard this song so many times and I always get chills from Burr's lyrics at the end.

That heartrending shout of WAIT gets me in the gut every time. What an emotional performance by Leslie, goddamn.

Well, aside from the last song of the musical, "Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story" and the "Hamilton in 7 minutes" animatic you already know about, I'd say maybe look into the Ham4Ham performances (or the animatics) of the cut songs and lyrics from the musical. My favorite of the cut songs was the one for Alexander and Eliza's children (they had more than just Phillip).

What i find interesting about this animatic in particular is that it keeps switching between what the actors in the play look like and (what I presume) the real historical figures would've looked like.
