  • @MarkTillotson

The idea you could see a push bike accelerating when already doing 30mph (about the top speed I'd expect possible) is bullshit, copper had his ego poked and couldn't deal with it professionally - he made a culpable mistake and then blustered and lied abusing his authority - good on the cyclist to standing up to the bully. Honestly I would call that a classic incident of road rage on the copper's part - completely unnecessary escalation just because he made a lazy assumption about how fast a cyclist might be going.

Compare with ordinary police in Brighton who say if its words that's fine fists that's a crime. The MET should all be sacked and they should start again. We had cameras put up in our town 20yrs ago. When a shop on our street was broken into they said they did not have the manpower to search the footage for petty crime. We only have petty crime! We had to pay for all that shite.

There are two lanes of traffic in the construction zone with a 50 mph. limit. Yet the cam car wonts to pass the red truck, there's not enough room behind the white car to get ahead of the truck and maintain a safe braking distance. So why try doing such a stupid maneuver especially I think with family or friends onboard. You're putting every one's life in danger as you will also distracting the truck driver and could be a reason for him collecting the other car.

I didn't hit him per sé, just used a self-defense technique called the two handed push off. When the police arrived, he kept bleating that he wasn't a trained soldier, (I was) and the police called him a bully and told him that he had picked a fight with the wrong person. I was not arrested and no action was taken against me. The guy tried to sue me for damages, but I refused to pay anything and eventually he gave up.

This, coupled with any rear-facing dashcam footage, will be viewed sympathetically by the Police. I know this works from experience :)

  • @-A-lm5xb

    @-A-lm5xb

@secondsofyourlife445 You're kidding, right? British roads are terribly designed in many circumstances (I don't even know where to start), and I've been driving them in all sorts of vehicles for 45 years. I totally agree that lack of education on the roads is a lot to do with the problems, especially in towns. How many times have you driven down a narrow street and the woman coming the other way just keeps on coming until she has nowhere else to go? How many times do you have to brake hard because somebody has just swung into the junction you're approaching and cut the corner? How many times do people pull out on you and think it's your fault for not letting them out? How many times have you been stuck in a line of slow moving traffic on a long trip because there's a slow moving vehicle at the front of the queue and everybody is terrified of overtaking because nobody knows how to overtake safely any more (or do it at all)? How many times has a bus stopped and the car behind stops behind it, stuck out on the middle of the road so nobody else can get through even though nothing is coming the other way, because for reasons only they can understand they didn't know that a bus with a left indicator likely means the bus is about to stop? Or drivers stopping and holding up dozens of cars behind them to let one car out? Or stopping at Give Ways and roundabouts when you can clearly see, even from behind them, that there is no other car around for miles? I could go on all night, but it's all bad driving that nobody seems to care about, least of all the authorities. The problem is we have now become TOO safety obsessed, particularly where speed is concerned. Driving standards have fallen because nobody knows how to overtake safely any more, or how to use lanes on a motorway, or a dual carraigeway, when to pull over and whose right of way it is on a narrow street and so on, and so on. The result is you get tired and frustrated drivers, sick and tired of having to waste an hour to get across town not just because of the road design, traffic light and so on, but by poor drivers bobbing along at 15mph without a care in the world, totally oblivious of what's behind them? The problem is the government don't care. Police are instructed to use technology to catch speeding drivers which is responsible for a small percentage of bad accidents, while councils spend millions to catch people in otherwise empty bus lanes and parking on double yellows because they have literally painted them everywhere so there's nowhere else to go, while all the real bad driving issues are ignored almost completely. The main reason for this is they don't lose money for a minor, low speed accident. As long as nobody gets hurt they don't care about everybody's cars getting smashed up, and although it may seem commendable to be so concerned about public safety on the surface, the reality is it's all about the money. We're now at the current situation because a lot of drivers are sick of being penalised and held back for no apparent reason, and are now just so fed up of it that they're past caring and just doing their own thing, hence all the poor driving.

The one way scenario: It was obvious the old boy had made a mistake coming down the one way the wrong way but the dashcam driver, instead of stopping short to allow the old boy to use the gaps to turn around, has to drive right up to him and force him to reverse. 35:01 As per the Highway Code, informed by the Road Traffic Act 1988 section 36 , cyclists 'must obey all traffic signs and traffic light signals' meaning if there is a signed speed limit, cyclists have to obey that sign. If there is no sign showing the speed limit then there is no sign for the cyclist to obey and thus there is no speed limit for them, technically. As there is a clearly signed 20mph speed limit on that road, then the cammer is required to keep to that limit the same as every other road user. The cammer needs to check their highway code as their comment is a clear indication that they, not the police officer, are the one not up to speed with cycling law...

I quoted the highway code to back up my post, cyclists MUST obey all traffic signs and traffic light signals. A speed limit sign is a traffic sign under the law. I bet you can't find the part in the highway code that says cyclists don't have to obey signed speed limits. Quote it if you can. I know you can't though. You''ll only be able to find incorrect websites that say that, and unfortunately for you, third party websites are not legally binding under the law. If you look at the actual legislature, you'll find it is indeed true. The rule is Rule 69 in the Highway Code within Rules for cyclists (59 to 82) You MUST obey all traffic signs and traffic light signals. This is, of course, backed up by legislation. When the word MUST is used it is a law you MUST obey, unlike when they use the word SHOULD. I just checked the relevent legislation, and the posted 20mph limit is indeed legally a sign under the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016 (if you have trouble finding which bit, it's PART 2 : Signs and road markings indicating speed limits) As such, cyclists have to obey a posted speed limit as it is legally a 'traffic sign'. Find the exception in legislation and post it. If you do I'll gladly accept that you are right, but just posting what you did just shows you are wrong, yet baselessly asserting.

In The Netherlands you have an insurance type that covers a lot of things, including you as a cyclist causing damage to a car. You are not uninsured, but it's not car insurance either. The way insurance cases are covered here when a cyclists runs into a collision with a car driver is that the car driver is typically considered at fault by reasoning with the idea that the cyclist is the more vulnerable road user there. (I will add that that rule/type of legislation is heavily discussed due to the increasingly suicidal nature of some cyclists around cars).

2:02 the truck actually cuts up the Land Rover, there are clearly two lanes going into one here and the land rover is well ahead of the truck going around the roundabout. Truck driver should not have attempted to undertake the Land Rover

20:25 you can plainly see there is a clearly marked cycle lane there and the cyclist looks like he's right in the middle of a driving lane. We don't see what happened a few yards before the junction, so blame is hard to attribute. Maybe the driver was impatient with the cycle in the car lane, maybe the cycle swerved into the car. Either way, if the cycle was cycling in the cycle lane, that accident would not have happened.

do you stop to think that perhaps the cycle lane did not go in the direction the cyclist was heading, or that it may have been full of cars (parked or otherwise?). You're just surmising and putting the blame on the cyclist...because you don't like them...that more likely why! 'Driving' lane - there is no such thing except on a motorway. It's a lane - open to all forms of traffic - motorised or otherwise.

@@TheRealKaner There is a clearly marked cycle lane, you know the place that the cyclists should be in. You claim I'm blaming the cyclist, yet in my post I clearly state "blame is hard to attribute". I'm not the one with a biased viewpoint here.

@@mewithme121 That is a cycle lane for cycles going from right to left, cycle lane direction is indicated by the cycle painted on the ground. If the wheels are towards you, then that is the direction you cycle. Unidirectional cycle lanes are always in the direction of the flow of traffic.

17:50 the mini driver would be found at fault ... Brake checking is very much illegal since it is classed as dangerous driving. Dangerous driving can carry an unlimited fine and a two-year prison sentence. In the event that someone dies as a result of a brake check, the maximum sentence for causing death by dangerous driving is 14 years.
