Best Nano Fish For Your Aquarium

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Today we take a look at 7 fish which can make the perfect addition into any nano aquarium setup. Recently nano aquariums have become exceedingly popular due to their small size and low care level. Due to their small water volume, they are only able to house tiny species of fish and shrimp. Pygmy cories are adorable. I got 8 as tankmates for one of my bettas, and was surprised to discover that I spend at least as much time watching them as I do him. They have such wonderfully engaging personalities and seem to really enjoy each other's company. The betta they treat more or less as part of the scenery. I've been thinking of getting some chili rasboras for months now. I knew they were tiny, but seeing a group of them eating right next to a shrimp really made the point of just how small far better than just giving a measurement. Even the CPD that swam over to join them looked a bit hefty next to them! Green neon tetras are a nice alternative to regular neons in a nano tank, particularly because they're a bit smaller, only about an inch. I've seen regular neons nearly twice that size (rare, but it can happen.) Still a small fish, but it can make a big difference in the number you can keep in the same space. They are a bit shyer, though, and appreciate heavy planting.

Awesome to hear you really enjoy the Pygmy Cory’s!. I think they are overlooked by a lot of people but they definitely are really cool little fish. The chilli rasboras are certainly tiny and I’d say they are probably the smallest fish in the aquarium hobby. I love the idea of keeping green neon tetras, I didn’t realise they were smaller than the regulars. Thank you heaps for the comment 😊🙏🤞

@@AussieFishKeeping. They also seem to be less susceptible to neon tetra disease; at least, I haven't seen it mentioned as a common complaint with them. I saw an extended video about nano fish that are smaller than chilis, but they're obscure - hardcore fish geek fish with a small potential pool of buyers. Much more difficult to get, more difficult to keep, need a species tank, not nearly as colorful, etc. I don't remember what they're called, as common names were not given, and I'm awful at scientific names, but I believe the ones in the video were related to the danios and rasboras. I'll see if I can find a link if you're interested. I think the least killifish might be smaller, but again, there's not as much demand for them because most people want brightly colored fish, and these are similar in color to pygmy cories.

The green rasobroras are terrible. The rest are very cool picks. The green neon rasboras are super active, chase everything away that's not bigger than them and super jumpy on every little thing.

@@AussieFishKeeping. No problem brother. I got rid of mine because they are bullies to tetra and also scare them because the green rasboras are very jumpy they get scared on the little things while normally my tetras don't care. You just have to move your hand and these green rasboras take off. Not only that, they are SUPER active and never stop for rest they just keep going back and forth in the middle of the tank. Good thing is, they love to eat food and will beat almost anyone on eating all the food they can.

I don't have any, but I've heard several accounts of them kind of picking on other fish. I think I also remember seeing somewhere that they like a bit more current than many other nano fish, so maybe they'd be good candidates for a species tank. They're certainly gorgeous.
