One thing that Equestria Girls does well with their songs, is that the villain songs always slap while the protags get more lighthearted and kinda corny songs- (minus one I think).

the thing is, the songs are upbeat and lighthearted but that HARDLY degrades the quality. people do normally prefer the dazzlings, but I mean- their special power is LITERALLY being able to influence overs with their music, so really that just shows how WELL everything was written and made. also, villain songs do tend to be very cool but I think that's just cause they aren't as common, the lyrics almost always have more meaning/story to tell, while non-villain songs happen much more often and therefor don't always need to be super meaningful or memorable.

The reason most people hate Flash is because he just exists because of the "every cartoon show for girls needs romance" cliche

It's kind of amazing how good rainbow rocks managed to be considering that the whole equestria girls spinoff was nakedly one of hasbro's more cynical attempts to sell toy lines lol. The MLP writers certainly knew how to work with what they had.

I remember how people reacted to seeing this all starting, but I'm glad we got what we got in the end.

Y’all gotta give my girl Meghan McCarthy her flowers please. She wrote both this and the first movie. She did everything she could to bring life to this franchise after Lauren left.

Pinkie has actually been studying magic for years, it's part of her daily study time; right in between cake theory, and advanced balloon animal engineering... Twilight did the squee after escaping the hydra in Feeling Pinkie Keen just off the top of my head. They all do the squee at some point in the series; Pinkie just does it the most. Just noticed that when the Dazzling are walking out on stage near the end, the stripes on Aria's sleeves change color and are matching her leggings, but the rest of the time they're green... Looks like they did have them matching at some point but then changed it for some reason. Their choice on colors do tend to kill some of the outfits in this movie. Some of them would be pretty good if they'd just made better choices on the colors.

(12:30) "is pinky actually smart?" yes. yes she is. she always has been. the reason she is goofy, might be because she doesn't want to show off, but rewatch the first episode (and the dragon episode). pinky finds the elements book ("it was under E"), and she beats rarity in tic tac toe like 40 times. she remembers EVERYONE in town (the donkey episode), and knows their birthdays. and don't quote me on this, but I think she knows everyone's favorite food.

I have a few theories for why Flash is universally disliked. 1: He's a _child_ and Twilight is grown. We have an image in our head of this mature woman Twilight has become and some kid shouldn't be added to that picture. 1a: TwiPie fans were livid. 2: He has no depth. He's not interesting. He's the basic stereotypical "guy" that the protagonist girl crushes on. 2a: It feels like he was just written in to give Twilight a crush, rather than to add to the overall storyline. 3: He really doesn't measure up to what HER standards _should be_ when you actually think about it. (Just think about it, you all are smart enough to figure it out).

Your first reason regarding the age gap makes sense as to why a lot of people may not vibe with Flash and his relationship with Twilight. I will say, though, it’s admittedly strange how this logic usually doesn’t get applied to Sunset Shimmer and Sci-Twi. Even though they’re not a canon couple, there’s still ship teasing between the two riddled throughout the series and they remain to this day the most popular ship in the fandom to the point where even the producer ships it, despite the age gap existing between the two like with Twilight and Flash. Just seems hypocritical to me if that’s a reason people dislike Flash while they ignore the implications of sciset.

Yes, I've been waiting for your reaction to EQG: Rainbow Rocks Scoot! To this day Rainbow Rocks is considered to be THE best out of the 4 main EQG films, Especially because of the Dazzlings they instantly became fan favorite characters and villains and their songs are just the greatest! and of course they were inevitably adored for other things like their whole hip sway thing, Trust me you wouldn't believe how much R rated artwork was inspired by those 3. lol But anyway, I personally watch Rainbow Rocks for the songs. They are all absolute bangers whether it be a Dazzlings song or a Rainbooms song.

Yessss, no matter how many plot holes equestria girls has its still such a guilty pleasure

You probably were told this a million times but there's a bunch of songs for Rainbow Rocks that weren't in the film, including full versions of "Awesome as I Wanna Be" and "Tricks Up My Sleeve". There's also "Friendship Through the Ages", "Life is a Runway", "Music to My Ears" and "Shake Your Tail", which only got cameos or slight reference in the movie. They're all fan favourites. Then there's the Rainbow Rocks shorts that were released prior to the movie, Rainbow's was the video she showed Twilight on her phone in the beginning. I think all of the Mane Six (except Twilight) have one for their instruments. EQG always has some great shorts for their movies and specials. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the ones you haven't reacted to already. Personally, Friendship Through The Ages is my favourite. And I already know which fit you'd rate a ten out of ten in that video, the whole fandom will agree. Also, sidenote, I, for one, think the fits for the final battle is some Rarity's worst work. Rainbow must've really been stressing her tf out bro because wtaf was that?

Ah, yes. BUY OUR TOYS: THE MOVIE 2. I loved Sunset's comeback and redemption in this. Can't wait for him to see the third. That one's my favorite for Sunset's story.

This movie was so good imo! Dazzlings’ songs are ones I go back to and listen to all the time, “Battle of the Bands”, “Under Our Spell”, and “Welcome to the Show” are phenomenal. I love how their last song has an uneven time signature, where it’s constantly switching between 7/8 and 8/8 time signatures. It trips you up on a first listen, cuz your ear wants there to be that extra eighth note that you don’t ever get, and the baseline and drum beat are really hypnotic. The ebbing and flowing of the synthesizer as it going through a low pass filter evokes the idea of bubbles coming up from a trench, perfect for the Dazzlings’ motif as sirens. And of course who can forget the voicing for them. Ironically, Sonata-despite how peppy she is-sings the alto voice! Aria, the purple cynical one, sings harmony as the 2nd soprano. And Adagio-poofy orange hair-sings the melody. Not the voices you’d expect from Sonata or Aria, but it’s not uncommon for people to sing in registers that differ from their speaking ones. You can find tons of videos here on KZread that isolate the vocals for any one of the Dazzlings, as Sonata and Aria’s parts are usually panned to the left and right stereo in the mix!

My favorite Equestria girls movie and the moment Sunset became my favorite mlp character of all time she is so adorable. The music is fantastic and I got so hyped when she ponied up at the end

He only exists *SO* Twi can have a love interest, and I just generally don't like him. He doesn't have any character arc and he just exists, love interests are supposed to have chemistry with the protag but the closest "chemistry" they have is bumping into eachother

i gotta say this is my favorite movie of the equestria girls movies

Yeah, this movie pretty much saved the EQG franchise from being seen as nothing more then a cash grab. This movie is epic, and that remains one of the best climaxs in Gen 4 MLP. The first movie.... has so, so many issues.... but this one is just straight fire. Also, there is way more then just two movies. We have two full on movies, and then a TON of hour long specials, shorts, series, music videos... there is a butt ton of EQG content left.

4:50 Yeah they mentioned that Sunset and Flash are exes in the first movie. 5:28 Lmfao, I like Adagio’s fit tho, I think it suits her. 6:44 You right, Sunset’s just experiencing the consequences of her actions. 7:38 We don’t know too much, personality wise, about the dazzlings but Adagio’s probably my favorite out of them. She’s got the menacing, the manipulation and I really like her hair. 7:39 While I do like Adagio, yeah Aria (purple pigtails) probably does have the best style out of the three. Her design still throws me off tho because of **future spoilers here**. 8:42, 8:46 I like details like this of Sunset being the one recognizing the magic use because the others are human and new to magic while she was a magic student under Celestia. 11:46 Never noticed how the show consistently sprinkles tidbits about Starswirl, neat. Don’t worry there’s some more of him later in the show. 11:53 The dazzlings were dormant because they got sent to a world without magic but they’re now surfacing because they saw the magical rainbow laser that happened at the end of the first movie, they showed it at the beginning of this movie. 12:27 Pinkie’s “Yeah I get that a lot” to being called a genius isn’t a throwaway line Twilight has called her a genius multiple times when she inspired her or when she found out something Twilight didn’t. Off the top of my head I could remember in the s1 premiere Twilight was having trouble finding a book on the Elements but Pinkie found it with ease. There are multiple instances in the show that suggest that our Pinkamena is actually quite smart. 13:03 Pinkie’s little squee sound effect is adorable. 13:21 Chat isn’t completely gaslighting you, the squee sound effect is used on the others too, but you’ll mostly notice it with pinkie. I don’t remember well enough if they have individual sound effects but fluttershy had a squee at 34:00, you can’t really hear it but it’s different from pinkie’s, it sounds like a baby’s coo. 14:13 It’s gotta sting at least a little bit to know your friend achieved everything you were striving for and then some, but Sunset’s a good sport, I’m glad she didn’t cause a problem over it. 14:20 We have come far, we started off with an introvert tasked to make friends and now we’ve saved the world about 4 times, the mane six and spike are famous, Twilight is a whole government official princess and we’ve got a headquarters. Watching this weekly I was so proud to see them grow. I was lowkey waiting for you to acknowledge all that’s happened, I’m glad you noticed. 14:35 In my opinion, the show does improve from here, but I’ll also be waiting to see what you think. 15:05 Milkshake? 15:32 As you found out, you not liking Flash is the coldest take in the universe, yeah you’re in the majority on that one. 15:41 Nah, there’s people with simple reasons for not liking him, I peeped some folks in the chat saying he’s ugly so your “I just don’t like his face” fits right in, amongst the “who even is he” and “why is he here” folks, me included. 15:39 Well when the series was airing I personally didn’t like flash because he doesn’t seem to add anything of interest, he’s there most of the time only to reference past / imply present romantic interest with Sunset / Twilight. If I were to guess, I’d say that the general disdain for Flash has a common basis in the fact that he’s a new character that didn’t have a pre established connection with the main series, he was met with apprehension similar to how a child would react to a stranger, AND he added nothing of value after being introduced so people didn’t like him. 2nd) Our Twilight had never shown any interest in guys before this, so a lot of people felt like it was odd, even when we were back in Equestria she still didn’t show any interest to suggest it might’ve been an awakening and she never mentions him ever to suggest that she possibly fell for him only, so based on these it really seemed like the writers put him in just to include the high school romance trope, the fandom even named him “Brad” because of this. That brings me onto the 3rd but most important thing I dislike about this whole Flash Sentry thing) This has a lot less to do with the character and a lot more to do with the writers. Flash is a high schooler, he is a child and Twilight is definitely an adult, we’ve seen the mane six with jobs, living on their own and having high socio-political responsibilities (mainly twilight on that last one) and Sunset with Flash is a whole other can of worms because she’s clearly at least a little bit older than Twilight and she’s been living in the human world for years. So yeah I got beef with the writers, they seemed so focused on adding the trope that they didn’t seem to care that it’s a crime to have an adult and a minor romantically involved. Even if you assume that Twilight turns into a teenager when she travels dimensions, it’s still a really weird thing to do, turning an adult into a child just so you could put them with a child is weirdo behavior, especially coming from writers of a children’s series. Looking back on it now, Flash is definitely not as bad as all the fuss people kicked up, and the first two problems I listed are ignorable most of the time, my major issue is with the third one. 16:10 Yeah a tizzy, it’s an older word that essentially means “an upset / panicked state”. 16:34 It’s ugly but it works, that’s essentially how I feel about the Dazzlings’ fits and the rarity designed mane six fits during the finale climax of the movie. 17:06 They might be just The Crusaders and not cmc, could be the name of a club same way their school has the Wondercolts. 17:37 I like the little detail here of Twilight folding her hands like hooves. 19:24 And somebody had the nerve to argue that pinkie didn’t belong in the messy tier on the list. 19:44 Mad pressure all the time, she is a princess now so the pressure is going to increase, but even before that it was a lot, maybe that’s just what’s expected of Celestia’s prized pupil. What I think is hilarious is how Vinyl Scratch is unable to be affected by the sirens' songs, and she does absolutely nothing except watch everyone suffer and fight until the end. She had the opportunity to beat the sirens with a chair from the beginning with no problems and she chooses not to. She rather watch the main protags suffer and fall apart than help until she is needed. Such disrespect for everyone. Best queen.

Yeah Pinkie does that squee pretty much constantly, but all of them have done it at least once at some point. I can't remember most of them, but I know Fluttershy did the squee in the episode where she babysat the CMCs.

Rainbow Rocks is by far the best movie, in my opinon, followed closely by Friendship Games (the one after this one) I have seen this movie probably 100+ times and I put it on as a comfort show when I need to relax or feel bad. I can practically quote the entire script

35:26 One thing that I absolutely LOVE about this final song is how they use harmonies: The Dazzlings use more darker, minor scales, while The Rainbooms are slightly shifting the entire song first towards Mixolydian mode (35:33) (which is kinda in the middle between dark and bright), and then into more happy, uplifting and bright Ionian (major) mode. Then when The Dazzlings are closing in, and reveal more of their evil side, they go with diminished chords and tritones (which were considered "diabolic" in the medieval music due to their dissonant character), and in the climax going full Locrian mode (35:51) (which is considered the darkest mode), with very infernal-sounding choirs (36:14) using minor seconds (half-tones) and death metal percussion and heavily distorted electric guitars. But then The Rainbooms recollect their power (thanks to Sashimi) and strike back with Ionian again (the bright & happy one), even shifting the key one half-step up (36:53), finishing with an epic 80's rock, Van Halen style :) (37:02) 37:15 Twilight: "Hey! So yeah, I would say I like both movies, each of them for different reasons.

7:25 I think I’ve seen one shitpost of where it’s the Dazzlings singing Battle of the Bands, but it’s acapella the whole way through, and so it’s the perspective of the students just wondering why 3 girls are coming into the cafeteria just singing without any sorta backtrack for like 2-3 minutes 💀 You never think about how uncomfortable that situation would be, until you listen to it without the instruments, and it’s just three girls singing acapella, running their hands over their heads, and everyone’s just like 👁👄👁
