I got to see this musical in high school through my English class (English Performance and Art where we transform what we study into live performances). It was absolutely freaking PHENOMENAL and I wish I could experience it for the first time again. The energy was so amazing and the performance was a 10/10 all across the board.

I love this movie, but because I love the rest of the show too I have some big problems with it. I really wish this movie was set earlier in the series, it's a good movie in a vacuum (decent themes, amazing songs, memorable characters... I still wish Capper and Tempest were used after this) but there are so many things wrong with it. Firstly, it doesn't really make sense being between Season 7 and 8. Like, at this point there are so many other characters who should have been involved, Starlight (who's still OP), the Reformed Changelings, the Dragons, Discord (maybe not), the Pillars (especially the Pillars, since they're literally heroes. Star Swirl would stomp). Secondly, there's the plot hole of the Hippogriffs and so many other places getting conquered like a three day journey away from Canterlot with nobody noticing and somehow it's like the Storm King had these places conquered for ages. He was built up as a huge threat but it really feels like the only reason he was a threat was because somehow the Princesses (Celestia and Luna mainly) were completely out of the loop. Like, if the Hippogriffs were meant to be such reliable allies that they're literally the first thing Celestia and Luna scream out as their only hope against the Storm King, then how did they not notice they weren't getting any correspondence after the first like week. This brings us back to the first point too. Like, why wouldn't you just get the two kingdoms of Changelings and Dragons involved, who have both been Allies for over a Season now? This would have given them the opportunity to help the Ponies who helped them, being a great segway into the Friendship School stuff. Thirdly, Tempest's character was redeemed only because Storm King randomly decided to betray her. Even though deep down she was a good person, it really didn't feel like an earned victory because she was fully on board with everything as long as she got her horn back. If anything, it was the Storm King who redeemed her, not Twilight or the "Magic of Friendship" or even herself. She didn't go through any sort of Arc. Like, it even just served to reaffirm her "can't trust anyone" attitude. Fourthly, the Mane 6 acted contradictory to how they did the whole series. Pinkie and Rarity were pretty in character, but Rainbow's random Sonic Rainboom was such a forced way to move the conflict forward. That's the kind of thing Season 1 Rainbow would probably do, even Season 4 Rainbow would know better. Also, Fluttershy and Applejack did literally nothing this movie. Though I actually like how they handled Twilight's character, seeing as she's the princess and is under a lot of stress so it makes sense she would regress to betraying her friends trust for the greater good. Pinkie makes the point that they were going to get the orb anyways, but Twilight's plan didn't have this as a possibility as she thought it had a higher chance to fail than just stealing it (because she didn't trust her friends enough).But remember at this point she had helped Stygian from regressing into the Darkness forever and to trust in friendship at the end of Season 7, literally what she fails to do herself, which is another reason why this should have been between like Season 4 and 5 instead. It didn't feel *as* in character for season 8 Twilight to do this kind of thing, but I still like how the movie did it. She obvs didn't have the moral high ground in this situation, but she regressed and didn't realise that the best thing was to trust in her friends to do what they do best Saddle Row Review style. That's the main point of the conflict. TLDR: the movie doesn't make sense being between Seasons 7 and 8, it doesn't make sense for the Storm King to be so dominant, why are the Hippogriffs the first option the Princesses recommend to find, Tempest's character arc was lacking.

as a long-time musical fan and theatre nerd, I fucking love Hamilton, is it completely historically accurate, no, but even then this story is enough for me to have done a deep dive into Hamilton and the Schuyler sisters. I learned Philip was born on the same day as me. (and he was actually kinda cute.)

Scoot you should definitely check out EPIC: the musical next! It's a retelling of the Odyssey and it has a somewhat similar musical style to Hamilton. I will warn you though it isn't finished yet and the only visuals are through official and fan made animatics
