I use a Lav mic and love it. Great sound and easy to use since it's wireless.

I use both at the same time! The Rode Micro and a Sure lav mic. I use the DJI wireless set up to run them both at the same time.
Mic B sounds better to my ears. It sounds crisper (in a good way). I haven't heard the reveal yet.

I haven't heard the results yet but to me mic B is the shotgun and I agree it sounds better. Mic A is the lav imo because I hear a low frequency resonance typical of those mics. I might be wrong though.
Mic A was Lav and mic B was shotgun. I preferred the sound of shotgun mic over the Lav mic, it sounded more natural. The review is very clear for how to use each type in different situation Nice job!. I guess I should have both lol
Buy both. Shotgun for on the run vlogging, lav for sit down and interviews.

Totally agree. Instead of spending $400 on one single wireless lav or shotgun mic, spend $400 for both a wireless lav and shotgun mic.

Perfect timing! I was agonizing over mics today and as usual, your video solved the problem. Great content as usual. Thank you!
Love how the videos are so informative and straight to the point! Think Media is only getting better and better 🔥 🙌🏻
This is ⭐️EXACTLY⭐️ what I needed. Thanks so much Nolan & Think Media!
Finally the video i was looking for! Thanks! You are amazing!
I heard minor echos with Mic A and Mic B sounded better to me. The entire time I had convinced myself that Mic B was the Lav Mic. My preference would still be the Lav mic though because they can be wireless, ability to turn away from the camera and move around more. Also, sometimes I feel that those who are showing their big badass Mic's are just trying to look . . . well, like "hey, I'm a celebrity, look at my mic" LOL

Same, Mic B definitely sounded better, which made me think it was the lav. (Less room echo/ambiance/whatever.) That's almost hard to believe... although some lav mics aren't the highest quality, so I guess that may be the case here.

Same here, I though Mic B sounded better so was expecting that to be the lav mic. Pretty impressed that it was the Rhode, nice :D
Yes I guessed right A Lav and B shotgun. But it took some concentrating with headphones to detect the difference. Imho, when in the studio either is fine. When out and about the Lav will give consistent sound whatever you're doing.
To be honest, if you push your Highs on the Lav mic, you got the best sound with crisp, the other one has less body and warmt. You could dim the lows a bit on the lav as well a bit to push it to the next level. Also you can degrease your release of the waveform so you'll delete the room reverb.

Wow, this was an extremely helpful video. Thank you
I think i need both. Thank you for this video.
Great review, thank you!❤
Great video Nolan! One point I think creators overlook is there is a lot of discussion on what kind of mic sounds better, but I think there's not enough importance placed on sounding consistent. Regardless of what mic you ultimately use, having a consistent sound throughout your entire video helps the viewer experience. (Unless of course you are doing an A/B test lol)

Awesome feedback! Thanks.
Great video as usual
Great strategy to maintain retention the one you used with the changing mics! Congrats
Great, succinct explanation!
I switched from the Lav because it produced more "highs" so, I think mic A is the Lav. The B mic has more "bass".
Can't go wrong with RØDE!

I currently have the RØDE VideoMic attached on a boom directly over the speaker and I am picking up a lot of white noise. When the person is not speaking in the video you can really hear it. I would love to know how I can get rid of this.
I own a couple of Rode Video Micros and use them frequently. The sound is good and price is right. I need a good lavalier for other purposes. It's nice to have options depending on the circumstances.
What would I do without Think Media??? I’ve learned SO MUCH from this channel 🙏🏾 THANK YOU
I love the sound of shotgun mics and I use either my Rode NTG-2 or my VIdeomic NTG but for convenience and simplicity lately I find myself using the Rode Wireless GO II with the lavalier GO. Setup is easy and the sound quality is great.
Just bought the Rode Video Micro two weeks ago. Can't wait to get a nice audio upgrade!
Thanks so much! This was very helpful!

Awesome!
First always great content 👌 Thanks for everything
Microphone B, after about 40 seconds it's obvious. A picks up more room noise/reverb, but placement can heavily impact. Note how the lavalier is somewhat underneath the clip and t-shirt fold? MIGHT sound a bit better if it was pointing straight up?
It’s always a compromise. A studio with a boom mic wins, but the others each have their moment. I can’t do automotive related videos with my Camera mounted mic if i’m walking around and the camera is stationary, but I prefer it usually over my lav when I can use it.
is there a way to turn the gain down when filming in the stock video recorder?
Man, your point regarding lav mic and rubbing against your shirt are mine Main reason to now look for a shotgun mic.
Dropping gems daily on us creators, new and old.
Thank you for your video. If you could please answer my question. I see in many of your videos that you have one of the small passive Rode mics plugged directly into you Canon M50. How do you get good sound without an external mic pre, as the M50 has horrible preamps? Is there a particular setting that you use? Thanks 🙏🏽☺️
What mic stand are u using for the shotgun mic? Thank u so much. Love the video.
Good review! I actually liked them both, but my hearing is challenged! I have a Sinnheiser on my Canon VIXIA, but I'm thinking about putting the mini RODE on my SONY NEX.
Guys, great video, as usual, 👌 I normally podcast and use an ATR 2100 But recently I started to record video tutorials and I don't want a mic in shot. I bought a rode video much pro. I see in your videos you have it vertically in front/top of you, I have mine straight on over the camera. Is there a difference? If so why on top?
Good work 👍
Thank you so much for this Nolan 😁

Thanks for the feedback! Keep crushing it!!
Very helpful.. I was working on get more clear voice.. hope this will help me ..
Prefer mic B and recently purchased a Rode shotgun mic, however the podcast mic I have that I place just out of frame sounded better.
I'm glad I watched until the end. Really nice song:) I like the sound of shotgun because the lav has too much of low end (boomy?) .Im not techy, so correct me if these are wrong words!
I can’t say either sounded better without knowing more about the sound setup (or at least whether it was the same for both or tuned for each mic). Just listening on my phone, both are clear and usable, with A having a bit more reverb and B having too much top end. Folks listening with good headphones may have a completely different experience.
Good Video!
Mic B (Rode VM) sounds crisp and clear on my smartphone. How far is the distance between the mic and you?
Great video comparison, thank you

Hey quick question do you think it is better to to use the shure mic and gator are when doing KZread videos like pc builds or product reviews?? Or do you think Lavalier Rhode mics or shotgun mics on out of Frame boom arms or shotgun microphones on a a73 Sony camera is better or a more professional look is better?? Or do you think you would need both of two different styles for different scenarios like product reviews videos vs podcast or gaming and streaming and maybe tutorial videos or even educational videos oh yeah and pc building videos I ask because I plan on building one this upcoming week and I need to fine this information out ASAP any suggestions please and thank you ???
I study sound for film and actually I would always prefer to use both when you’ve got the option. The shotgun mics will make your voice more realistically pleasing and are way more truthful to the location, where as the lavs will be capturing the low frequencies of the voice more easily because of it’s distance. When you sync both of them together, you will have a wonderful combination of both the natural space, as the lower frequencies of the speech to give the voice more body ;)
Conclusion: we need both. ⭐️

Agreed
I liked Mic B better. Mic A sounded a little boomy by comparison. I like using a shotgun mic. I mostly record guitar lesson videos, and sometimes I look down at the guitar and talk while I play, which means that sometimes I'm talking directly into the mic if I'm wearing a lav. Plus, I would get a lot of noise if I adjusted the guitar strap or moved around while I was playing. I started using the Rode VideoMic Pro a few months ago, and it works really well for what I need. I have the mic pointed *mostly* down at my face from above. It's slightly off center so that it can also pick up the sound from my amp, which is pointed right up at the Rode. After fiddling with my amp's volume, I found a good balance between the guitar and my speaking voice, so I don't have to record and edit separate audio signals. Simple is good.
I use a similar lapel mic that ThinkMedia also suggests in another video that plugs into my iPhone. But, when I try to edit the video the audio gets out of sync and I can’t figure out how to fix it. Do you have a video on how to sync the audio in CapCut or InShot when doing editing? Help!
This video really made choice easier.
Here we go new subscriber
So I noticed some ppl use the wind filters on the lav mic and some ppl don’t. If your at home, do you need the black wind screens on the lav mic or not?
I have been using lava mic for a year now and just got the rode mic. I think mic A is the lava mic since I'm used to hear my voice at the same sound as mic A.
Thank you
Wow, I actually liked the A mic better and thought that one was the shotgun mic. I'm surprised by the Deity's mic sound.
Excellent
Do you have a way to reduce scratching noise when using a lav mic ? I need a lav mic because I am moving a lot but it creates scratching noises. Thx !
Depend on the situation of the recording both microphones are need it even though microphone B sounds much cleaner
I like a lav mic because I'm not always sitting down. Although I use it for sit-down shots too, as my camera doesn't have an audio input hahaha.
can we use both of them for macbook air m1? or better to attach it to camera?
I was just looking for Best Microphone for KZread Videos and I got the notification of this wallah
Mic B is cool i loved it
Between those two I preffer A. I have two microphones: the Rode Video Micro Shotgun Microphone (yes I do) and Boya by M1. I prefer Boya. It's cheap and the sound quality is better than Rode Video Micro Shotgun Microphone. That's my opinion :)

I’m gonna get these two soon also lol so I would have both Mics when I need them in diff tasks
Mic B obviously better. Thanks for the demo. Mic A just sounded muffled in comparison, which I didn't expect since it's omni-directional.
The main things about good audio is the area you're doing it in and post editing. Both which I'm terrible at lol
What adapter do I use to be able to plug my Lavalier mic into my iphone promax 11? Thank you!
how about for food vlogs? what do you recommend?
Ok so they’re both great! Well great!
man i need some help i put like 2 movie clips and that's what really started my channel growth but i really want to get back to the gaming stuff what should i do?
Mic B! Also what computer are you using to record? If Mac Book, what OS version? Mojave?
I use a rode video micro for my content because it sits of my camera’s hot shoe and it’s the most convenient for me
A. Sounds fuller. I wouldn't use both of these microphones in the same video. They sound too different, so it's a bit distracting. Good comparison video.
Ok for microphone b can someone please explain which stand i can get to hook it onto that wasn’t explained well in this video or the next one
I love the NTG
B sounds good!
Nice, 👌
I’m assuming you can use both at the same time? Sounds like you can plug the shotgun into the camera and then use the lav mic with your phone? Just wondering for situations like doing an interview, we could potentially put the lav on the person you’re interviewing.
We have the IDOLCAM VlogStar V2 shotgun microphone, can we send you one for the next mic review you are doing?
can someone help me with what adapters i need to buy (i am in the uk) to connect the rode video micro to a boom pole i have? i watched the other video but they are using a different rode mic
I prefer the sound of microphone B. Anyway, both are necessary!
B sounds way better. It's clear, crisp and more focused. The A mic echos and sounds dull. Thanks for making the video! This definitely helps.
hey all, i am kind of new and thinking to get the rodeo one and use it a shotgun mic connecting to my iphone. can someone help me with what extra cables do i need to buy to make it work with an iphone, is there anything i can buy to mount it to the iphone and lastly any cost effective way to put it on a tripod as an overhead tripod? thank you so much
I am currently using a shotgun mic on a boom. it is directly over the person speaking… for some reason… we are also picking up a lot of white noise. What can I do to get rid of that white noise? is it the mic? a setting in my camera? or something that could be taken care of in post?
I have BOTH! & that $100 -- 4K Camera 🤷🏿♂️😅💯
Tbh they both sound really good but the lav mic....wins💯
I use a shotgun unless I’m moving around. I get too many pop sounds in the video with a lav mic. I have started using the dead cat at all times with my lav mic and it has helped some but the shotgun sound is so much better and easier.
Is the shotgun mic in the video the rhode video micro 1 or the video micro 2?
Iam using boya mm1 but hissing sound coming out from the mic How to resolve 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😁
You guys do alot of Microphone vids for talking head videos, even when you are outside its still kinda talking head. Do you have any suggestions for an audio setup to record within a group of people outside without lavaliers. maybe suggestions for a shotgun style mic that connects to an iphone while on a gimbal setup. Im sure you have created vids that have that in mind.
Super dope how he like “pulled” his name and stuff onto the screen
I love B mic , but is there that mic for using it in Iphone directly?
I wanna do gym vlogs, which mic would be better? And which one would you recommend, I don’t really have a budget at least I don’t think lol
How to improve audio while in postproduction to make it crisp and clean? 🙁
Could i plug the rode mic into my mic input on my pc like a lav mic?
Mic B definitely sounds better / more pleasant to the ear.
How do I get the Lavalier microphone but wireless
What’s your post sound processing
