Glad to hear your comment on the question about banking points. Most of the travel writers always say don’t accumulate points for distant future use and only buy points with an immediate plan to use them (devaluation concerns) which went against my thoughts. I’ve been banking UR, MR, IHG, etc. points for the past 2+ years with plans to begin using them at retirement (reached last month) and begin full time world slow-travel… I think it’s going to make things much easier. Yes, Papago is good. Used it in Korea while there for 3 months of work a few years ago.

Yes, most people advise to use them up on high point redemptions, but it doesn't make sense if you travel more than a few weeks a year.

Thank you the informative video! You mentioned a Hyatt hotel in Europe for 3500 points, which one is that? My experience with Hyatt vs other hotels isn’t that they only have a limited number of rooms that can be booked with points. Best to book asap if it’s a hotspot.

Great vlog. I am an aspiring world traveler and want to ask your opinion. I am reading an article in my hometown newspaper as I watch/ listen to your vlog. The newspaper article is titled Travel Savings: The Secret perks of investing in travel, from hotel upgrades to cruise credits by Ramsey Queblin, Bloomberg. One suggestion is buying 1 share of Accor, SA the largest hotel company in Europe according to the article. One share costs approximately $35 USD. The one share gives you Gold status at Fairmont, Sofitel, and Raffles along with 50 other brands. Normally Gold status requires 30 nights at their hotels. Do you think it is worth it? Seems like great value for $35 USD, the price of one share at the time of the article.

Looking online, it sounds like ownership of 50 shares is needed. And the Gold Shareholder membership is valid until the end of the year in which application is made (unless minimum number of nights for renewal are met).

We'll be in Tokyo during March 15-20 and saw your ICI Ueno Shin Okachimachi recommendation. You mentioned booking it for about $60/night, but the rates appear to be double that in March. I realize rates change based on date of stay, but I think our dates are not too far off from your booking. Did you book the tiny 14m sq room? What platform did you book on?

  • @GroundedLifeFinances
