We went from struggling to early retirement. We often get the question about how we were able to retire in our 40's and today we will share our story. It is not like most, we had very little investment and we had very little money to start but we made it work. We also share how we leveraged starting a KZread Channel to get things going.

Not a great April but if you step back and actually look you will see the S&P 500 was up for the first Quarter. In the last 30 days, my IRA saw a gain of $70k. You might consider financial advisory if you're experiencing significant drop.

Right, a lot of folks downplay the role of advisors until being burnt by their emotions, no offense. During the covid-outbreak, I needed a good boost to stay afloat, hence researched for advisors and thankfully came across one with grit. As of today, my cash reserve has yielded from $350k to nearly $1m.

We sold our house for $550,000 after 10 years having paid $240,000 took the equity and moved to a cheaper town, paid $190,000 for a duplex, rented the basement and bought a rental house next door. We now live off the rental income and retired. The new houses have doubled in price after 8 years. We can easily live on less now we don't have to dress to work or commute, buy lunches etc no car payments, make food from scratch. The tenants are paying for the houses plus our living expenses, with no mortgage payments or debt we are richer than when we worked !!

I feel like I just watched a great TED Talk! Very inspiring. Good fortune often comes when people are willing to think out of the box. Most people wouldn't be willing to relocate to another state, let alone other countries. You're successful because you're willing to adapt and do whatever is necessary to open doors. Your contribution to the world is being rewarded!

Wonderful video. I lost my house to bankruptcy in 08 and moved into a little apartment and I was so happy in that apartment and then nine months later the apartment owner told me that they were selling the building. So I cobbled together the little bit of money I had to buy a tiny house barge. Not long after that it started to take on water seriously enough to haul it out. I fixed it up paycheck to paycheck while staying with some friends and ended up selling it. By the way, it was featured in Macklemore‘s video next year. Anyhow, I pulled myself out of the Mire, and lived very slim and continued to save and now I have a house in Mexico. Glad to know you.

    1. Pick the right partner in align with your goals. 2. Dont have any children. Wont make it impossible but will significantly delay for about 20 years. 3. Live below your means and track every purchase on a zero dollar budget. 4. Have 3-6 months of emergency fund. 5. Stay out of all conumer debt. No credit cards, (i dont play the chasing points game) no car payments, no loans. 6. Buy a house that you need not want. A house that is below your budget. Remodel over time instead of buying move in ready above your budget. Always buy a home below your means. 8. Pay off that house early before retirement. We paid ours off in 10 years instead of 30. 9. Invest heavily (close to maxing out) into at least one 401k/roth ira for a minimum 10-15 years while working. 10. Have multiple streams of income when you do retire.

I had kids so it slowed things down, but I've accomplished everything else on my list by age 40. I'm retired now living off YT earnings, military pension, and part time work online on my own terms. Wife works to keep healthcare for the kids. I quit my job of 16 years last year to be home with my teenage kids as I worked graveyard for most of their life and I have no regrets. Wife will quit in about 5 more years when the kids move out. Other than I can not tap into my 401k for another 19 years lol but by then it will be massive from compound interest and cannot collect social security for another 22 years lol. They will both be extra icing on the cake at that point. But life is good. No debt. Paid off house. Money in the bank. Taking multiple small vacations every year. Enough in 401k to keep the lights on in my senior years. Time with family all by age 40. Wife and I will travel more and have our house be our home base when the kids move out. My Only regret is wasting my entire 20s on stupid shit and listening to my broke friends and broke family and not being serious about finances.

Everything looks great but not number 2: one they said they have 2 kids and secondly family is far more important than more money. But its a good idea to learn to add AND to your vocabulary. You can have money and children. If I didn't have kids, I wouldn't have felt so happy and I wouldn't have been as motivated to be selfI-employed and make way more money than otherwise (and yes that's even after the "cost of my children"). Having children has increased my income and lifestyle significantly. Because of them I live a dream life in Florida and the Carribean at just 40- and I home educate my kids. Also, my husband passed away without life insurance (big mistake but he was young and his passing was very sudden)- but yet because of my kids, I've gotten myself to this dream lifestyle, homeschool and work part-time hours. Without them- I'd be like everyone else running in a hamster wheel. I thank God for my children!!!!

Very good point. I think it's mainly seen as "passive" since there is a delay from making content to getting paid, and it can somewhat keep going if you stop. However, it never was passive and it's categorized tax wise as ordinary income. I suppose since you don't have to go into an office, you feel "retired"?

You both are so inspiring. I retired a few years ago at age 48 but haven’t traveled much. My initial plan did not fall through and I didn’t have a Plan B. Thank you for being so transparent.

KZread is in my business as usual and decided to show me y’all’s Retire To A Hotel video. Then I made my way here. I have only ever commented once on KZread. This time subscribing and giving a thumbs-up didn’t feel like enough. OMG! I love this for y’all and for ME! Thanks for sharing. You’ve helped me streamline some decisions. Also, I love how chill y’all seem. Keep thriving!

Thank you for this. I love your videos and you encouraged me to try Amtrak again after swearing off them 20 years ago. I thought you were probably younger than us even though we still have kids in college and you are! Watching Rob climb into the top bunk I wasn't sure that my husband could do it but you've given us enough information on sleeping accommodations that we know what will work for us. We just got back from a Via Rail trip. I homeschooled my two kids and I'm happy for you that you were able to as well. I don't need this content but subscribed because I like to hear more about your life. I'm so glad your content is working for you.

Question I have a ton of great stuff from our house from a recent move that we just don’t want/need anymore. Where do you recommend selling? Thanks so much!
