100% this. For everyone who doesn't have a dedicated gaming monitor that they don't use for any productivity at all, we have to use something non-OLED to avoid burn in risk. Yes yes, I know it's better than it was, but I'm still not gambling that much money on having to throw it away and buy another just from normal use.

100% I have had my current monitor for 7 years now and I really hope to get similar kind of lifespans out of a new monitor. The idea of getting an OLED as a consumable that I have to replace more frequently because of burn in from CAD or other work programs really puts me off.

Most monitors have 3 years warranty for burn in, so you could be total careless with it to heart content and if it ends up with burn in , you just return it and get all money you paid for it to buy it again with new 3 years warranty so it basicaly never lose value and you wont waste money in long term either and still can enjoy quality of OLED to fullest as well

6-8 hrs isn't really a mixed workload. You will experience burn-in. Tim has done it, as well as others already for a year. Just get an IPS monitor and be happy. Or if you have money to spare, get one. With the 3 year warranty it will help but what happens after that? Plano buying another $1000 monitor.

  • @todosdupos

OLED burn-in warranty is nice, but still a hassle to deal with the vendor (e.g. ASUS) to get it replaced (or get the money back) -- not many brick and mortar shops where I'm at so I'd have to order online and ship it back and forth if something goes wrong (+ no screen for the duration). Talk about first world problems... MiniLED was an interesting choice, but there's not many in the size I'm looking for ("32 4k, "34 wide 1440p, non-curved) and for reasonable money (EU prices). Seems like manufactures would either go budget for LCD or OLED for high-end and it feels like there's few options in the middle that I'm aware of. I was secretly hoping that using dark mode and all the OLED care features it could work, but after watching Tim's own experiment and Rtings long-running burn-in test I'm still not convinced. Maybe I'm overthinking it 🤷

As for the ultrawide section, I think the Alienware AW3423DWF has been superseded by the MSI MAG341C - it uses the same panel, and the same 3 year warranty, but also has some extra OLED care features, an inbuilt KVM and some better IO, and can be had on frequent sales for £750 (only £50 more than the Alienware when it drops to £650)

What monitor is best for me? I have a Predator XB270HU 1440p 144 hz from ca 2015 and I am happy with it, but could use some more hz. Br //M

Asus PG32ucdm. Took me and my son a while to get the DSC compression working. Just wouldnt work! Updated RTX4090 driver (was already fairly up to date) and placed the Display Port cable in the dport slot furtherest from the motherboard (not sure if this was necessary). Then it worked at 240Hz but a pain. After using it for a while there appears to be a bar of distortion down the left and right side (about an inch). Really dont know why? This distortion improves when running games in full screen as opposed to windowed! Maybe a revised firmware update from Asus will improve it? Anyone with any ideas please comment.

I'm surprised to see no mention of the Gigabyte M27Q-X (Rev2.0 now). Especially since it has the better BFI tech than the LG (no strobing), MSI (strobing w/o VRR). Is backlight strobing THAT bad on these 240hz IPS'? It's almost treated like a non-feature despite motion clarity being the only reason you would buy a 240hz IPS instead of the AOC.
