My biggest issue with chain actions is when the player, after spending 5 minutes working through their 7th combo move, realizes that they can't complete the final action of their plan and starts to walk back their entire turn. Aargh!

42:25 yes! Someone else said it! A Feast for Odin is a great game even without the expansion. Norwegians is NOT mandatory to have a good time. People like to act like they weren’t having a blast playing base. Just because there is an expansion doesn’t make the base any worse!

I'm loving Tainted Grail: Kings of Ruin. The exploration, storytelling and world building are great! My favorite of this list.

ISS Vanguard is my favorite out of the ones you mentioned. I absolutely love the planet exploration, but even the ship upgrade phases are incredibly engaging. I've learned that I really enjoy being able to upgrade and manage in games. 😅

I must admit that Ark Nova has just shot up to my #1 game spot, and the expansion(s) have just cemented that position for the time being. I am sure there will be a point where I'll need a breather from it, but today is not that day.

Love Feast for Odin! Only played it recently (and without the Norwegians expansion!) and it instantly became one of my favourites!

Earth with expansion was very cool. Possibly my favourite along with Ark Nova of these here.

I haven't played most of the games you mentioned in this video. I have only played Ark Nova (only multiplayer games) and Earth (base game only obviously). Between these two I like Ark Nova more.

ISS Vanguard is such a fun game. I also started playing Maracaibo on the map and its a total blast.

Maracaibo is basically one of my favourite games, so that was easy :) As for the rest, GWT New Zealand is fantastic as well. I have a soft spot for Pfister games. I also love ISS Vanguard and A Fist For Odin. You played very good games this month, as usual! :)

You play so many games in a month Paul it's crazy 😄. Of all the games you've talked about in this video Tainted Grail is my favourite - followed by ISS Vanguard. The wonderful writing and the atmospheric artwork on the cards and in the book combined with the interesting choices makes for a very engaging game. 😀

This is a solid group of games. My favourite one is definitely ISS Vanguard. I recently finished to paint the miniatures of the core box and I’m just waiting for a couple of campaign games I’m playing now to end, so I can make space in my gaming schedule. I’m also quite interested in Inventions. A friend of mine has it and we should play it soon.

Hi Paul. Great content again this month. Really enjoyed the Great western trail solo play through. Never played any of those before but seriously enjoyed watching that one so might just take a punt.

I do love Voidfall so much. Last night I played Inventions for my second play and it gave me more AP than Voidfall does! I really regret not backing it. You inspired me this month and I finally tried at the GWT:NZ solo mode. Definitely my favourite GWT game (although I haven't played Argentina I have played 1st and 2nd edition and Rails to the North).

Wonderful recap as always Paul, vicariously playing games through your myriad playthroughs, rough or otherwise, doesn’t matter. 😅 favorite of the list is feast for Odin, I set that up and played the afternoon of your playthrough, much fun and mead was had. Cheers!

Your Feast for Odin video inspired me and I've had 6 games of it on BGA since. Really really tempted by ISS Vanguard, but I have promised my wallet that I'll play my Mage Knight Ultimate 10x before buying a new solo game.

ISS Vanguard has been the best game I have played solo in 2023 and I am lucky I went for 2 wave shipping, I can't wait to play the new campaigns.

My favorite game from today's list is definitely Ark Nova. Animals, cards with abilities, huge variety & randomness, building out a hex grid of various buildings… And solo play is available!

You've definitely got me desperate to play ISS Vanguard now. The exploration/adventure elements with rich stories and lore makes it sound like it's right up my alley. Keep up the great videos, Paul. Your opinions and insight are always appreciated.

I really enjoyed ISS vanguard, I played it solo 4-handed. I think I got a bit tired of it by the end of the campaign but Paul is really right that while the ship management phase is quite satisfying, the planets are so interesting, different, and allow for lovely cinematic moments.

Great video Paul, a bit of a challenge to pick a favourite, but think I'll have to go with ISS Vanguard since we are absolutely loving it at the moment.

Thanks for the contest, Paul -- long time watcher, first time enter-er-er. My favorite game on this list is Voidfall -- just brilliant!

My FAVORITE of this group is Ark Nova, although I haven’t played with the ARNO bot. I also love Federation (but have only played on BGA so far!), Earth (very interested in the new expansion) and GWT-NZ! As for the rest, I can’t comment on them being favorites since I haven’t played them yet - but the one’s I’m most interested in: Inventions, Galactic Cruise, Plata Nubo, Ezra and Nehemiah!

Love Ark Nova, looking forward to getting galactic cruise. We play planta nubo and forest shuffle alot to. A lot of game on this list I want to play 😊

My favorite of the above is A Feast For Odin -- I have to be careful when I set it up, because when I finish a solo game, I always think "I believe I have time for a few minutes of just one more game".. and suddenly it's past my bedtime! 🙂

Really enjoyed our game of Maracaibo, and it's prioabablly favorite out of all games covered this month.

I"m looking forward to Inventions. I really enjoy Earth and Ark Nova.

We both knew you would love ISS Vanguard. Although I prefer the ship management, I do enjoy the action efficiency puzzle of planetary exploration. I really need to get back to my campaign. Interesting in your discussion of Inventions and chain actions, reminded me of On Mars, where you can get into some really confusing chain action scenarios with the rover. Great video!

Chain actions are a common thing in a lot of games. Vital uses them a lot. Even something like Ganz Schon Clever is the same - although in that, the "actions" are 5 seconds long :) I have no issues with moving up a track and getting bonuses, but when those bonuses start an entire new action, doubling the length of my turn... I dunno. I'm in the minority on this. I know.

I love Maracaibo both on BGA and the physcal copy, super hyped for Galatic cruise as i backed it off the back of your videos and i can't wait to see it at UKGE. Must admit I have passed on most campaign games, don't have time for it. However your descriptions do have me intruiged so i may go back and watch some of your content

ISS Vanguard would be my favorite. I've been taking my time with it and it's so very well done in every aspect.

Awesome painted minis! They look incredible! My favourite game of the ones you mentioned is Voidfall. I have 16 plays since the beginning of April. And it's still tabled and being reset for another play or two this week. When I get my copy of Ezra and Nehemiah (my most anticipated game of 2024) it'll replace it on the table. I also backed Galactic Cruise and hearing your thoughts on it keeps increasing my excitement for when it delivers! I hope you'll consider doing a solo playthrough video for it. :)

Absolutely loving Inventions so far - so much crunchy thinky decision making! Reall looking forward to finding time to get started in ISS Vanguard too, it sounds amazing.

Been playing Kings of Ruin and just beat first boss (after a few tries 😉 ) Loving it so far!

Always love these VLOGs! Its impossible to choose a favourite so I'll go with my current star of the show. Inventions! I'm loving how this has rekindled in me the appreciation of the Lacerda design :)

There are too many favourite games to mention them all. The best one has to be federation this month when I got to play it for the first time. There are lots of different strategies and many decisions to make each turn which makes me like it. Working out when to go for a megastructure first is exciting. Do you push your luck for maximum points, but risk someone else getting there first, or get it early to be the first for less points.

A Feast for Odin is and always will be in my top 10. Absolutely love it.

Well, you've made this month's contest question a tough one! I'm supposed to answer what is my favorite game from the ones you covered this month and you're making me choose between ISS Vanguard and Voidfall. I could just call it a tie but that seems like a cop out so I'll go with ISS Vanguard because we've played more of that and are really enjoying the story / experience. But also have to say that Voidfall is such an excellent, deep, and satisfying game that leaves you thinking about what you want to try to do differently the next time you play.

Currently ISS Vanguard is my favourite board game listed here. Mainly because of the campaign videos ive been able to watch your playthrough of the game and really enjoying it so far.

Haven't read a choose your own adventure books since I was a kid :D So many good games this week. Love A Feast for Odin and Ark Nova. And after watching you play Maracibo on BGA I think I have played it 4-5 times solo :D I'm still waiting for my pledge for the new Tainted Grail stuff to arrive but in general I hope to soon get back to the campaign I'm going through with a friend. And pledge for Galaxy Cruise so hoping that will arrive soon but I know that will take some time. So really hard to pick a favorite but I think Ark Nova is winning with a hair over A Feast for Odin and Maracibo in a strong 3rd place.

It’s difficult to choose my favourite from those you’ve played last month, it’s either Voidfall, GWT:NZ or Maracaibo. I’ve also got Inventions: Evolution of Ideas and looking forward to watch your How to Play video!

Voidfall & Earth are both the games I love the most from all of the games you talked about.. but there are plenty others, I have not played yet, so I cannot say, if there would be others I'd like similarly as much.. :)

Lots of great games on this list! I like ISS Vanguard and Ezra and Nehemiah both quite a lot, but Voidfall is my current #1 game of all time so I'm going to have to go with that. I've got Inventions on my to-play pile, so I'm looking forward to watching your videos on that prior to playing.

As far as the pronunciation of Nehemiah goes, I was always taught in church that it is knee-hem-I-uh. I am not a Biblical or Jewish scholar, of course, but that is the way I have always pronounced it.

Many of the games this months I have not played (or still not played for the one that still have to come out). That said I have very much enjoyed Earth, and in the last plays I also implemented some of the expansion part, while waiting for the expansion in my language to be available...and it changed for the better; much more blue action chosen and less people stuck with "unuseful" cards.

Nice vlog! I also LOVED ISSV, finished first campaign. Second wave arrived, now debating if to continue or replay first campaign, it was that good….

I don't generally play campaign games, but this is so good, I'd be tempted to. The problem being knowing what is coming. The surprise is a big part of the enjoyment.

Galactic cruise is the one I look forward to play the most. Would love to sit at your table at Essen.

Ark Nova is my favorite game listed, playing addictively on BGA. This video inspires me to get back to ISS Vanguard to play more of - I appreciate the impressions.

Thanks for another great Vlog and giveaway, Paul. Windmill Valley is the new one that catches my eye, because of the gears and designer. That said, classics like Cuzco/Bora Bora, A Feast for Odin (esp. with Norwegians), and Ark Nova are hard to beat--so much great stuff!

Tainted Grail is the one I'm most keen to try. Sadly I haven't played any of the other games you've mentioned.

Great recap, Paul. I’ll be honest, I haven’t played any games you played last month. But my most anticipated game to play next is ISS Vanguard…once I finish complete the Frosthaven campaign which I’m currently playing.

I really want to try Planta Nubo! This was one of the games I was most excited for from last year and I've yet to be able to pick it up. I am definitely one of those people who tends to like complex rules and game systems with high levels of fiddliness. I may just be a masochist 😅

My favorite is Ark Nova with the new expansion. I love the action system and the efficiency puzzle!

Just got Primal: The Awakening, which looks great. Super high production quality, much like AT:O (the massive white boxes also probably cause me to connect them mentally in some sense). I'm not sure if I'll have to solo it, as my friends and I don't get together reliably enough anymore to allow campaign games to move forward sustainably. I REALLY don't enjoy solo gaming much at all, as the shared social experience during and afterwards is so integral to my enjoyment of almost any board gaming experience. But I've decided that ISS Vanguard will be my solo guilty pleasure. I'm not letting the intermittent availability of my gaming friends impact my enjoyment of that one. I've played the first two missions and it is encouraging to hear you say it becomes even more of a rewarding experience as the game progresses. Aeon Trespass Odyssey and the two Tainted Grails sit behind that, so I've got plenty of gaming potential lined up for MONTHS should I choose to pursue it. Thanks for the video, Paul (and for all of the off-camera prep time). It's amusing that our taste in campaign games lines up a lot, but our taste in other games is quite a bit different. I enjoy hearing your overview of games that I likely won't play (like Euros), as your descriptions are complete and interesting enough to allow me to appreciate the appeal of those experiences without having to purchase or devote time to the games themselves.

My Tainted Grail copy hasn't arrived yet but it's coming soon. I was considering playing both at the same time so it's fantastic to hear that you're doing this as well, and then mixing in some Euros and other games to balance things out. Perfect. As for my favorites for the contest: ISS Vanguard and Tainted Grail for sure, but also Feast for Odin and Great Western Trail New Zealand. The latter I contributed the original solo mode kick off for so I have a passion for all things GWT. I’m a fan of Stefan feld and I’m not sure which is my favourite between Marrakesh and Cuzco , but I absolutely loved playing voidfall so that is my choice, but Maracaibo is one of my favourite games 😅
