1 6 2jz is a supra not a skyline, skylines have an rb26dett which sounds even more like a barra than a 2jz

Barra is right up there with Supra when it comes to straight gasoline six. Way to go, Aussies. Someone needs to start production again.

I care that the falcon has come to an end BUT I'll always always have one in my driveway. I've owned them for years and did a shit load of driving. They just keep on going. cheap, safe, reliable and comfortable. love the things.

Just as a clarification, These are designed and built by Ford Australia for the Australian market. Ford Australia to Ford is like Holden/Chevrolet etc. to general motors so it isn't as if they designed and built some special motor then shipped it off to Australia. Now that ford australia has shut down we too are left with mustangs being our performance option from ford and with the holden commodore all but gone too the best new performance sedan offering here will soon be the new kia. Dark times are these.

Taurus SHO is pretty fast at 5.2 seconds 0-60 but not Barra fast

The BARRA makes the commodore’s v8s and v6s look, sound and perform like a lawnmower engine

Some background for those Stateside :) Sorry for the length. Excellent family car, both Commodore and Falcon. Was a big part of Australian Culture Holden Vs Ford. Until recently............... The 90' version of the falcon the 'AU' was short of the mark (I owned one) did a lot of damage to Ford Australia. Ford Australia late 90's was in dire straights. Change of Management to Geoff Polites and a monumental change for the Falcon and culture at Ford. Updated exterior design, updated 'Euro soft touch' inspired interiors, multi-link rear suspension, heavily updated inline sixes, DOHC 4.0 N.A and Turbo, 4.0 LPG. Addition of 5.4 SOHC and DOHC V8 replacing the V8 Windsor. Same changes applied to Fairlane and LTD except Turbo 6 and V8 DOHC not available. Not sure if LPG was available on long-wheel base sedans from the factory. Station wagon available only with Barra 6 and leaf suspension. Utes (leaf suspension) available with all versions of Barra 6 and both V8s auto or Manual. Column shift available as well. Later 6 speed ZF autos available, this in an 'affordable' daily driver family rear wheel drive car making 350-400HP. Even the suspension (Multi-Link Rear Suspension) standard in all Falcon sedans and Fairlane/LTD, was a revelation at the time in a rear wheel drive family sedan. I remember reading the test from Wheels magazine(when the BA Falcon came out) did with a base Falcon XT 6 against a base E-Series Mercedes and a BMW 5 series. They were surprised how well the base Falcon handled and steered against the base Mercedes E-Class (almost as good as the BMW 5 series), the falcon even had more better supple suspension. BA Falcon wins car of the year 2002 from several publication even beating the then new Mazda6. Geoff Polites then gains approval from Detroit to build the Territory SUV. On top of his achievements with winning car of the year for the BA and Territory. He transform the culture at Ford Australia. I have friends who worked at both Geelong and Broadmedows whilst he was in charge and they have such a high respect for him. They speak very highly of him. He would greet everyone by name on the floor and would make everyone in the office and management including himself, to work one day per year on the line! Geoff Polites a car person who was known to frequent Ford Falcon Forums then gets promoted to head Jaguar LandRover circa 2005. Sadly passed away 2008. His replacement/s, well lets just say it went down hill from there. Holden were making a lot of good choices during the 90's, the market loved the VT commodore for it's styling and presentation superior to the 'AU' Falcon. VT series 1 Holden Commodore available with 3.8V6 and supercharged 3.8 V6 and 5.0 V8. Long wheel base and ute versions. Series 2 available with LS1 5.7 V8 replacing locally built 5.0V8. Holden Commodore later exported as Pontiac GTO. Roll on the VF Commodore, exported to USA as Chevrolet SS. Versions available in Australia: Sedan, Station Wagon, Long Wheel Base luxury sedan and utes. Drive trains currently 3.0, 3.6 V6 (LPG recently discontinued) and 6.2 LS3 V8. I suspect Holden had big plans (export) for the VF seeing the amount of work and development done on it. Is there another comparable rear wheel drive family car/station wagon available brand new at the price in Australia?............... From what I've seen regarding the Commodore's imported replacement, if true... No comment. Sitting in Turbo versions on the Falcon Barra 6, I couldn't understand why it wasn't exported to USA. A missed opportunity for both sides...........................

dbass As a American the falcon looks like a awesome car. I would guess that the reason it was never imported was it would kill mustang sales. It looks to perform just as good or better and your getting twice as much car as a mustang. We did get a few great cars from Holden here but they never took off. The GTO was just to ugly for most people even though it was a great platform. The Pontiac G8 looked great and ran great but they killed Pontiac before the car really took off. The Chevy SS was awesome but priced way to high and aside from a couple of police departments buying them they never took off in the consumer market and were dropped after a few years.

Nacho Business what wrong with the AU? I:m not saying the Barra is bad. Its brilliant!! I would take a Barra over a RB/JZ any day all day long. But give the AU credit where it's due. Back in the day it's competitors had to add a blower to their V6 just to try and keep up with the VCT XR6.

Yeah that's your opinion. I drive a AU XR6 VCT. She has never let me down next to the road ever!!! Service her myself and these days she sit pretty in the garage most of the time connected to the trickle charger drive her maybe 2 times a week rest of the time is on my bike!! There was a vote on the forum about which is the better falcon the AU won hands down...... As for the looks well again that's your opinion i like the look its unique. Ford Aus has been building good sixes for a while now. Plus, Ford Aus built the best RWD platform in the Ford world. It's what should be under the Mustang. Now, Ford Aus is stuck designing cars for the Pacific region, to see them being built in Asia. The Aussie Falcon was the longest lived name ever in Ford's world, and they trashed it.

@@solidbloke there were a few issues with the very early ones. By 2004 they were much more sorted, the Mk2 BA also had bigger rods and other improvements. Mine makes 650hp has done 180,000kms and has perfect compression and uses no oil.

Easy 10 second cars. I had a BA xr6t first of the Barra turbos. Added a few bolt on's new valve springs and a stall converter and hello 10 second 1/4 mile in full weight family car....awesome engines

There's nothing wrong with a bit of healthy rivalry but after reading through some of the comments here, quite frankly I think it has become childish, pathetic and fucking embarrassing... Falcons and Commodores are (without question) uniquely Australian and the last of them are rolling off the line right now... It's our automotive heritage and it's comming to an end, all thanks to the manufacturers pursuit of financial gain... I'm saddened by this because without Ford or Holden there would be no rivalry and it's that rivalry that layed the foundation upon which our V8 supercar series was built... I'm a Ford man but I don't hate Holdens by any means... Might as well put those petty differences aside because for many of us, its never going to be the same...

While that's true, the N/A versions of the Barra engine used in the current Falcons make significantly more power and a bit more torque.

I'd kill for one of those Ford falcon ute truck things with the turbo barra motor. As an American I can say I'm jealous.

Ford needs this in the Ecoboost Mustang!

The Barra was beating all of the v8s just like back in the 70's when the Chrysler hemi 265 was beating all of the 305's and other v8 contenders

Gary Gary , yep , I remember that , all the Chargers were shitting on the v8 powered cars , mainly `cos they just took off , while the v8`s were wheel spinning going nowhere , what a laugh !!

V8 supercars share nothing with the real cars. Different wheelbase, suspension, roof height, width. Its a single make parity class like nascar but just look like the original cars as much as possible.

Yeah but a nascar can turn left twice as good as a v8 can, so it makes up for it. Its an argument for the ignorant ;)

No, its poking fun. I wont argue that the nascars aint good, but twice as good, nah. I like my races around tracks with more than just an oval.

Engine so powerful the car wobbles down the track haha
