Hey man, great review. I am the distributor of SABO in the USA, so I am obviously going to be biased. The heel does cause some confusion. We get a lot of questions regarding whether in fact it has a heel. The short answer: yes and no. The idea behind the 1 mm heel drop came from freestyle snow skis. If you view a traditional snow ski from from a side angle you will notice it is not completely flat but cambered (curved up in the middle). When the skier places their boot and weight on the binding, the ski flattens and spreads the weight over a greater area of the ski (also creates more effective edge on the ski). If the ski is not cambered, the skier's weight is centered directly under the boot. SABO had the same idea with the shoe. You will notice under the heel of the shoe is a small (1-2mm) inverted type bubble. At the bubble point the heel is 6mm vs 5mm in the forefoot. When the lifter stands in the shoe, the bubble flattens (you can even flatten it a bit by pushing the bubble from inside the shoe with a finger). In a thin sole shoe you only have a few millimeters to play with so the effect is subtle, but the idea is spread the weight, increase stability in the area where most of the drive in a deadlift is coming from, the heel. Also the heel does raise a few mm's around the edges in the heel area to create almost a cup for the heel - matching the natural shape of the heel. This means your heel always finds center and doesn't move. I know this sounds like an advertisement, just trying to explain the reasons behind the design. I don't discount your experience though. Is it possible that your heel sits further back in the shoe and feels more angled down? They feel flat to me. You could try positioning your foot a little more forward in the shoe and then tightening the straps so your heel is hitting the flat part. In any case, the Reebok is a great shoe. Also I share all feedback with SABO so this review is useful.

@@BrazosValleyBarbell I DM'd you, but I get it. The PRO's are definitely tighter in the heel area versus the OG's so it gives you less play in positioning your heel at least.

@@BrazosValleyBarbell Also, just adding in case I suggested incorrectly, the shoe wasn't designed to prioritize skiing over deadlifting. Just the concept is the same. The ski metaphor helps in visualizing how it works and I believe that is where the idea came from.

The power shoe is great, but Reebok can't seem to get it right. I like the bearfoots, but they don't seem fully baked, had an issue with the front sole coming unglued. I believe they've since fixed this, but a lot of the issues seem to be ones that could have easily been addressed with some testing.

I cut the straps off of my sabo deadlift shoes for the reasons you mention in the video. I could possibly see that the lower strap is useful for some, but I'd rather just tighten the laces. I also have the crossfit lite TRs (the old version of the power lite mids) for squatting. I came to pretty much all the same conclusions as you.

I actually love my notorious lifts for deadlifts (I squat in heels). I wish they made high top though. I feel totally glued to the floor even when I pull sumo (which isn't often). I should say I have very narrow feet though so rooting is never limited by shoes for me. Anyway thanks for the video. Your channel is criminally underrated.

You might want to reconsider. I've spent my time deadlifting in Adidas wrestling shoes, barefoot, socks, slippers, chucks, and my friend's barefoots. But I easily enjoy the Sabos the most. I feel much more stable through my midsole and I'm able to transfer much more force into the ground. The way he talks about the Sabos is like the heel is more than a quarter of an inch. At most, it's a tenth of an inch, nothing you'll even notice nor will it affect your lifts. Seriously, I'd highly recommend them, no one else on the market has a shoe that compares.
