I also just finished reading and throughout I'm just like, "this band of merry thieves just goes in balls deep with no plan and no exit strategy." They just get by with plot armor and other people covering up for them while SJM wants me to believe they are so smart, powerful, resourceful, etc yet none of them even think about hiding their identity. Not once did any of them go yo, let's at least try to put on a mask or something. How about we don't all always meet up in the same damn place or even check if we are followed. They have all this tech and all these powers to teleport, use shadows, and do they do anything with it? What the hell is Bryces super awesome power that surpasses the kind yet she can't do shit without Hunt. And I just find it hard to think about the fact that they are hundreds of years old yet still act like teenagers who just want to have sex and party. At what age do these people grow the hell up and do they never learn or mature or because they age slowly they also develop slowly mentally?

Hahaha oh my god your point about them doing all of this reckless behavior during the day out in the open was literally me while reading this book. Like didn’t the Asteri threaten you guys if you stepped out of line too much?! Does no one care about that anymore?? Loved this book and adored your review! 💙

I'm convinced Danika is top tier project management with all the research done and clues planted. I'm offically in the SJM trash community and I will be reading the rest of acotar cause I stopped at book 2 and tog).

Like 300 pages in I started to realize the worlds were connected bc of the different species and when they started talking about original war with Hel. I thought that the events of ACOTAR / TOG happened in the same world but in the past. I love this for the Maas universe tbh. Like you said the plot of it all has so much potential!!! Sarah just needs to balance the elements of her writing more, still giving us some taste of slice of life but getting to the real nitty gritty of the plot sooner. I’m excited to see where the story goes

I agree with most of the points you made in the vlog portion!! especially about Bryce not really knowing Danika that well and Danika doing way TOO MUCH in one lifetime 😂 but I have to say, I love that Bryce is cocky, I feel like most women MCs in fantasy are the shy, insecure kind so that was fine for me to see something else once even though she was doing risky stuff sometimes

💙💙this was hilarious. I agree Sarah strong suit is making you care about there characters! The plot can often times be a little abc123 & overly convenient. ACOMAF is still my favorite book from her. I think I will now have to read the throne of glass series as well.

I’m only 5 minutes in and I have to say that I love how intelligent you are! You’re so intricate while also being brutal. And I admire that so much. It’s entertaining while also being informative 👏👏👏👏👏

💙💙💙 I feel like SJM has gotten so popular that her publishers just let her do whatever the hell she wants to do. It’s like she doesn’t even have an editor or some thing it’s wild! And I am somebody who really likes the slice of life stuff included, to me a court of wings and ruin is one of my favorite books by her because of the time we spent with the inner circle just living their lives. What bothers me more is her insistence on having 20 different POV‘s, with six different plot lines that have nothing to do with one another, that she brings together in ways that just don’t make sense. Like I love the first couple books in the throne of glass series, but the last two everything really falls apart for me because there’s just too much going on, that I’m not invested in any one plot line. I still like the series as a whole and have re-read it, but I just feel like SJM could use a good editor.

SJM is one of my favorite authors and my library is a little bigger than yours look lol (yours is impressive however) I WILL admit that it drug on to me a little. HOWEVER I get get the bigger picture. She is after all doing a HULU series for ACOTAR & I understand the multiverse since SJM actually wrote a catwoman book for DC comics & she knows how successful that is. I did scream (because it’s unreal’ when I also “already” figured out that the horn on Bryce’s back, is the the third object that they never found in ACOSF. I’m excited & hate that I have to wait for the next book 📚

I have no interest in reading this book but damn I had fun watching this

At what point did you think Bryce didn't think things through? Maas doesn't let us into her mind so that her plans can surprise us..she does the same thing with Celaena in Throne of Glass. If anything, that Bryce's gambles and plans always work out is a writing flaw and not a character flaw. But even that serves to subvert our expectations when she fails at the end... and even though she walked into that trap she probably did the best she could with the info she was fed and the resources she had. Also... what are your thoughts on the Court of Thrones and Roses crossover? I think a Throne of Glass crossover makes more sense because I think the Asteri have already been introduced there.

Your commentary about SJMs 'slice of life' writing style makes me think that she would do well in like a Harry Potter/magical school type setting. (Like, JKRs shittiness aside, I'd love long, meandering books in a Hogwarts setting, just enjoying learning what the world has to offer and being present with the characters). Credit where it's due, SJM has good ideas, but definitely does not have the writing skill required to build these complex worlds and intricate storylines that she keeps trying for. If she stuck to writing teens/college age students, their dumbassery, attitudes, and cringe dialogue (sorry to any teenagers, I know you're not all that bad) would make far more sense, and the immature notions of sex and love would be more tolerable. She wouldn't even have to give up her sex scenes, since she's been pushing the limits of what is appropriate in all her YA books so far anyway. Her style of lots of little pointless subplots and one 'explosive' ending even lends itself to the timing of school terms and the conflicts more typical of younger people. Idk, it's just so frustrating to be offered the opportunity for a really rich and diverse urban fantasy story and then get... this

Dont like the Bryce character,spoiled and not to smart as she just leaps into situations without thinking them through.Hate the idea of her now being in the ACOTAR world,she is used to being the Queen bee and calling the shots in her group, that is going to cause tension and problems. I want the next ACOTAR to be about Azriel,Elain and Gwyn not Bryce.
