🇹🇷 Street Food in Gaziantep: • Best Turkish Food in G...
Today we’re traveling a little outside of the center of Istanbul to go eat what is considered to be one of the best places to eat Turkish doner kebab in Istanbul! And let me tell you, if you love meat and if you love doner, this is a must eat restaurant in Istanbul.
The restaurant is huge with plenty of tables, and with about half a dozen doner kebabs cooking and serving all at the same time. Although I heard if you go during a peak mealtime you might need to wait for a table - but when I arrived right as they opened, I got a table immediately.
Each doner kebab is approximately 200 kilos! And what surprised me is that, even with their volume, they cook everything fresh, from the bread to the meat. It really was the best Turkish doner kebab I’ve ever had in my life!
📍 Bayramoğlu Döner, Istanbul, Türkiye
Restaurant title: Bayramoğlu Döner
Total price - 380 TRY ($11.78) per portion

    This place is the Döner Mecca of Istanbul. There's just one tiny problem: it's a bit outside the city center. You'll spend an hour getting there. But hey, the service is super fast, and the döner arrives quickly. You eat it in about 15 minutes, then it's another hour back. So, that's 2 hours of travel for 15-20 minutes of eating. Also, many people criticize the lavaş (flatbread). Because the döner is quite fatty, bread might absorb the oil and juices better than flatbread. On the bright side, the fries are hand-cut, not the usual frozen kind you get at most places. As Mark mentioned, the place is usually very crowded and a bit noisy too. Just wanted to leave a few warnings for anyone planning to go. Thanks, Mark!

  • @fdama

    @fdama

    7 күн бұрын

    The lavash bread is a good choice because it is thin. They want you to taste the Doner meat not the bread. It’s probably also why no sauces were offered. The taste of the meat should be primary. Thick bread and sauces would mask the flavour. The fries look exactly like the ones served in the UK with Fish & Chips.

  • @ahmetcemozen

In Turkey Doner is the Best eaten in cities like Ankara, Bursa, Samsun, Erzurum etc. ussually in the Anatolian Side of Turkey but not in İstanbul. I think the Doner in Istanbul is usually dry. Btw, for your information the sauce they put on your Salad was Pomegranate Molasses not thickened Balsamic. In Turkey we don't use much balsamic oil in Salads.

As long as there are no preservatives or additives, meat protein and carbs can be healthy. Unless you are fat and don't know how to maintain a good eating habit and you don't exercise.

    Mark , that Doner you had here is not the best Doner in Istanbul, It's just another average Doner restaurant. The real Doner is called Iskender Doner of Bursa, the historic city south Of Marmara Region and if you go there, please go the restaurant called Hunkar, or real historic original Iskender Usta restaurant. There are so many restaurants claiming they have Iskender Kebeb. Real Doner is a plate where the doner kebab meat is placed over toasted and cut in cubed pita bread, with tomato sauce and hot butter poured over the kebab at the table, with complimentary shish kofta, and beef slices on the side with roasted pureed eggplant or yoghurt. The plates come in three sizes, small, portion and a half and two portions. . . Hope you go to the origins of true Doner Kebab in Bursa! Bon appetite!!
