The fact that Lewis averaged over 110 and still got well beaten says it all about the standard in this game, unbelievable. We all like to see a high standard, but i feel that the really close games that go to the wire are the ones that are most memorable. For instance the '92 World final between Taylor and Gregory tops this game because of the sheer drama, even though the standard was much lower.

@NoThankYou Le Mao Lewis was a great player 10 years ago, I agree he's sh*t now but at the time he was considered the ultimate 'power-scorer' in the game (2011-2014) & 110 averages were the norm. Then the likes of MVG & Anderson really put their foot on the accelerator and Lewis never fully recovered from his slump in form after the 2016 World Championship Final. Crazy to think these days he is the world number 40.

@@WillLMC96 Never write off a former two-time world champion mate. I believe that starting this year he is on the rise again and will return to at least the top 16, where he undoubtedly belongs. He is still relatively young and has never lost his phenomenal and natural talent. Btw. I think his decline really started after the 2018 WC 1st round defeat.

@@HighRyza Maybe they could beat him for a short time before dropping off, but for sustained top level performance they just dont come close. Look at Cross, 1 time World Champion, MvG has a few, but is not even at half the amount Taylor has, Wade, Anderson, not one of them comes close. Price, Clayton and Wright are good, but can they be top level for a long time?

wow imagine playing some of the best darts of your life and still getting beaten 16-9. Apart from missing a few doubles can't really fault Lewis. Taylor was just on another level.

Amazing, thanks for posting. I'll probably watch it another 180 times or so. I loved in the 19th leg when Lewis just missed the 140 out and Taylor showed him how to do it just perfectly on his shot.

Ask any darts player, the greatest feeling in the world is playing your very best stuff against an opponent doing the exact same to you. Nothing like a pure battle, and even if you lose, you come out of it thinking "I couldn't have done much more".

10th leg is absolutely ridiculous stuff and great to see Taylor and Lewis enjoy and appreciating each other. Out of this world👏🏻

Darts with these to the only time I'm proud to be a stokie!

Don’t know how he did it and to win matchplay and get to a final on his last year

Never seen a player get beaten that badly after having hit 18 maximums and averaging over 110. Phil just turned into a beast after 8-7. Smashed lewis apart.

Imagine hitting 180, 121, 140 and still lose the leg. This is by far the greatest match there will ever be. Phil Taylor is and always will be the greateat sportsman of all time, not just darts, all sports. No one has ever dominated their sport like he did. Absolutely unreal, I loved the Taylor days. that’s the saddest thing ever i was too young to see this beautiful player at his best😩(i started playing darts in 2015)

The first 17 legs of this match were the best legs I've ever witnessed in a match. I was never a fan of these players at the time, and the rest of the match was a joy to watch but when they were dragging each other along at the start was phenomenal

They're such great sports. Love it

Amazing that Taylor has double the world titles of barney and mvg combined and nearly double the amount of majors combined. When MvG was at his best we all thought he will go on to win so many World titles but hes only got 3.Unbelievable.

love or hate phil taylor . knowone will ever emulate him . the true goat .

It went from being the best darts game up to about when Lewis and Taylor were neck-neck at 8-8 legs a piece. After that though, it just became Taylor's charge to victory. You can tell the 180s slowed down just a bit as Taylor started being from "that was fun wasn't it?" to "okay, now to end this man's career".

Insane scoring from both players! Marvellous!
