Best cork setup for using wild shiners to fish for bass.

I use bobber stops to secure my cork when I am bass fishing with wild shiners.

    When doing a live bait rig, other than free lining, I have gone to using a mono leader. The leader eliminates a lot of the issues with line tangles and knots for me. I love braid, but with live bait rigs, I have a great deal less aggravation using mono with floats and weights.

    Have you ever tried it without the the bottom stops like a slide bobber? that way the cork will be at the hook when you cast, making it easier to cast and not go end over end then the shiner can still swim down?

    @@JamieMcClanahan I hook mine in the nose most of the time, but my buddy hooks his in the tail. We both catch a lot of fish. His make a lot more disturbance at the surface, but he also has a lot more trouble with ospreys and egrets than I do.

    Just surfing the net...... no leader? ...... why a bobber? ..... can’t you feel the shiner swim away getting eaten ??? How do those bobber stops cling to your braid??

    Sometimes I use a bobber to keep the shiner up out of the hydrilla. The bobber stops work great because their inside diameter is about the same as the braid.

    In shallow water, with windy conditions, or trolling they make a ton of sense. In a perfect world there is no wind and you are not so shallow that you can't let them free line which is my favorite way to fish with them. I personally prefer a leader of mono with floats and have far less issues with line tangles doing it that way.

    Are the bobber stop big enough to stop the bobber if you don't use the Beads?

  • @ThatShinerGuy

    @ThatShinerGuy

    The bobber stops are so small they would not stop the cork without the beads. The clicking sound may be a bonus.

    Nope. Just let the shiner swim around until the bass find it. Sometimes we don't even use a cork.
