Best Chess Game of the 19th Century - Petrov’s Immortal | Greatest Queen Sacrifice, Moves & Traps

Here's one of the most beautiful games in chess history played in 1844 between Alexander Hoffman (white) & Alexander Petrov (black). This game from the romantic era of chess is known as Petrov’s Immortal & features one of the greatest queen sacrifice ever & probably the best castling move of all time. This game also features some interesting moves, tactics, ideas, strategies, tricks & traps. Alexander Dimitrovich Petrov, the inventor of Petrov’s Defense, and author of one of the first Russian chess manuals (1824), was the outstanding Russian player of his day. He gained this supremacy in his teens, and held the top position for more than fifty years! This game illustrates the finest example of castling in chess, and may be used to help beginners study a master game while learning about the rules for castling, sacrificing material for the attack, and constructing a mating net. The opening employs the very unusual Ghulam Kassim Variation of the Giuoco Piano. I also have an interesting chess puzzle at the end of this video, let's see if you can find the mate in 2 moves.

Answer to the puzzle: Firstly, we have to remove the black rook from guarding the d8 square and at the same time clear the d file. So Nc7+ is the accurate move. Rxc7 is forced and we finally struck the final nail in the coffin by playing Rd8# and its a beautiful checkmate.

If pawn takes bishop then knight to f2 and if rook takes knight , rook e8 to e1 is wonderful mate . Going back after bishop takes on knight , if rook takes on bishop f3 then still knight to f2 and if rook takes then again rook e8 to e1 is a wonderful mate . First B*C6+ after with whatever he takes with rook or pawn (Taking is forced as the king is trapped) we give Nc7+, Rook is forced to take the knight as the king is trapped. So R*c7 by black and Rd8# is the final nail in the coffin as it is a checkmate. We can also continue with NC7+ as the knight is pinned to the king. so there is both mate in two and three.

Key for the puzzle : I found the key very fastly, because I saw there can trap the black king by opera mate, and removeing barriers to that mating pattern. First, Bc6+ Then this is a exchange so,black will capture this bishop by his rook or pawn, but it isn't a problem. Then we go for a knight sacrifice, Nc7+ black king hasn't any safe squares, so black has to capture our knight by his rook. Now our mating pattern is very clear. Simply we can checkmate the tasty black king by Rd8# !!!! Thanks chess talk for making like this video🙏

Puzzle :- 1. White moves the knight to C7 2. It's a check, so rook HAS to capture the knight on C7 3. Then rook to D8 is a beautiful checkmate

1: Nc7+ Rc7 is the only defending move, 2: finally Rd8# its a check mate by rook.
