This is not a big deal but it's bothering me that I said "almost thirty flights" at the beginning of this video but I meant to say "almost 30 flights with the 3 of us all together." My son and I have been on even MORE than that just the two of us. I feel like that's important -- you can totally fly solo with your baby -- it's very possible! 🥰🥰🥰 Happy travel car seat hunting!

This was a great list and video. Just so you know, in Canada car seats must have the National Safety Mark attached to the seat indicating that it is Canada-approved and meets Canadian regulation. There are a bunch of car seat safety fb groups that are super useful in providing car seat safety advice.

I'm glad!! I went with the baby trend trooper and it's super lightweight and FAA approved for travel -- haven't taken it flying personally though!

The Diono radian is on the heavier side (23 pounds) but folds up and (for an additional purchase) you can get backpack straps for it that clip right on, making it easy to move through the airport. It goes up to 50 pounds rear facing and 120 forward facing. It can be used as a booster seat with the car seat belt when they get heavier. It is FAA - approved for airplane use.

I just did my first flight with my 12 month old and used the Grace Contender Slim/Go on board Southwest. It fit great, I could carry it in front of me down the aisle while wearing baby and the diaper bag backpack. I set it in the seat of the stroller to get through the airport. I did decide that it's still a bit too heavy for me to be using solo with him until I don't have to carry/wear him, so I ordered a cosco scenera next for my next flight! I may keep the graco instead of reselling because I know the cosco has a short shelf life. My new plan is to put baby in the stroller (he's sooo hot to wear the whole time!!), hook the diaper bag to the stroller and carry the car seat in a back pack. We'll see how it goes! Interested to see what seat you ended up with.

Awesome -- thanks for this detailed message! And congrats on your first flight with your baby! I went with the Baby Trend Trooper in the end. Pretty happy with it so far (super lightweight and long shelf life -- up to 60 lbs I believe?) but I haven't taken it on a flight yet. We're on a big Southeast Asia trip with our 2 year old right now and decided not to bring a car seat (we'll see if we end up regretting it).

The last time we used my toddlers car seat on a flights was when she was 12 months old and she spent most of the time in my lap. The airplane seatbelt buckle, when tightened, ended up square in the middle of the seat back. How uncomfortable! We check her carseat now in a protective car seat bag we got off Amazon. We have the Graco 4-in-1 DLX. We used the CARES harness after that. Now that she’s over age two, we may just use the airplane seatbelt alone.

I’ve heard good things about CARES! My son is 2.5 and we went right from lap infant to just airplane seat belt in his own seat. Car seats just never ended up working for us on the plane!

Cosco Scenera Next definitely is available in Canada! Canadian Tire sells it for 129.99 so about 95USD. And the Wayb isn't approved in Canada so that would not be a good option for a full time seat if you're in Vancouver!

has anyone purchased an American car seat and flown with it in Canada? Did you have any issues with the different regulations from both Countries? Looking specifically at the Cosco Scenera NEXT

Hi! Do you mean issues on the airplane or driving in Canada with it? I've only had American car seats and live in Canada/have traveled in Canada with them. I can't tell you exactly for the plane itself, because it does seem like certain airlines will check the car seat for country-specific approval stickers (maybe someone else here has some insight?); but for driving in Canada with our American car seats, we've never had an issue 🤔

Hi, thanks for the video, very useful! We're in the UK and I'm still going through your recommendations, seeing which I can buy there. One that we can buy here is the Maxi Cosi Nomad, but it doesn't have Isofix fitting, just seatbelt fit, and seems to really wobble around a lot - because the seatbelt stays sit forward of the seat back - see kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y5thrqVpirqZpdo.html&ab_channel=ErinAlexander I wondered if these you are reviewing have the same problem as they must be a similar design, ie seatbelt fix only? We don't see you giving any of the seats a good shake like in that video I linked to, so don't know how they hold up! Thanks!

Sorry, I'm really not sure! We've always used exclusively seatbelt fix for our Chicco "bucket" and now the Baby Trend Trooper in this video, which we ended up getting.

It's important to know, that US carseats are not authorized in the EU and vice versa. The Latch (US) and Iso-fix (EU) systems are different from one another. As the UK still has mostly EU rules, I guess that applies there as well. It is a real hassle to find a travel friendly EU car seat, as they are either bulky or unsafe, and most often not allowed for use in cabin. There are also non of these practical trolleys, like for the Latch-ones, to drive them around the airport. A lot of EU companies with travel seats went under in the last years (Nachfolger, Kiddy, Luftikid) but maybe you can still find some stock. The Urban Kanga and Maxi Cosi Nomad are not very safe, because not every car seat belt system is compatible to secure them tightly (+ they are forward facing and not allowed in cabin). For 4+ the Trunki Boostapak is convienient.

@53 Thanks for the info. We ended up getting the Maxi Cosi Nomad for occasional use, although aware of its limitations, as it's so portable and as you say there are very few options here. It seems that modern cars are more likely to have the seatbelt buckles 'buried' in the seats, so the seat is more secure.
