I wouldn't have thought this would ever happen lol, I've always had this in my mind that "any board can run anything stock with no problems" but turns out it's a wild difference with boards even in the same price range. i think this is just the right amount of focus. for people who have the budget to buy b660, it means we'll usually run i7's at most and an i9 if it's cheap later. as a result, designing a board to just BARELY run the i9 without throttling is ideal since the rest of the limited budget can be spent on features.

Super curious whether the EK-LiteBlock on the MSI MAG Torpedo EK would fit onto the Soyo and Maxsun given their VRM heatsink design looks very similar to the Torpedo's and whether that block would benefit them as much/more than direct air flow and when/if EK will make that LiteBlock series general availability rather than just tied to the Torpedo.

Back in my days (lol) any board could run a compatible CPU at stock frequency. High-end motherboards were needed for overclocking. It makes the choice a lot more complex so thank you for these comparison videos.

Question, so if I pair the 12400 with any of these board I should be ok?

Hi Steve, thanks for the comparisons, really apreciate it as I´m about to build a 12400f (found it at 164 euros) with an Asus PRIME B660-PLUS D4 (100 euros) and a RTX 3050 phoenix from Asus (329 euros) as I grab a bargain for all of them at my local hardware store here in Madrid. So I will build quite a killer combo for a reasonable price. Waiting to see the mid tier B660 comparison soon and hopefully know were the Asus PRIME B660-PLUS D4 holds with the other motherboards, as I plan to upgrade to an I7 12700 in the future.

Aside from the MSI, all other mobos look very underwhelming. The cost of the chipset + PCIe4 must be high.

You're ignoring the maxsun and soyo boards as they are the best performers in both performance and temperature but yeah they are Chinese products so it doesn't surprise me that you're ignoring them

@@rdmz135 Yeah but they were pretty close when you look at the graphs as there were multiple instances where the Chinese motherboards outperformed the msi boards and the msi boards are more likely to be sold at a much higher price while it's common for Chinese boards are generally cheaper but like I said the msi board is more preferable as it's a more trustworthy company and would provide bios support for a long time and have a warranty which I would not expect from the Chinese boards.
