I used to work in construction business doing wooden formwork. I can tell you that Makita is quite durable there was many times I've used the battery as an extra 'hammer'. 😂

Lmao. I'm a form carpenter. Actually made to PM for concrete on large silicon valley projects. Turned detailer. Just added to my Makita line. It's expensive. But I know makitas high end tools are the best. DeWalt has the flex volt and more power. But use their skilsaw. You'll notice the dust is in your face. Makita you can see the line. The Japanese think of the details not just the numbers.

I'm a finish carpenter. Makita batteries are super high quality. I've dropped drills off of scaffolds with no issues. Also, the internals of the Makita are super high quality and we'll built. There's a video or 2 of a guy taking apart a Makita battery and explaining why they are good quality.

I have makita batteries from 2005 and still work. The housing is polycarbonate, good stuff.

Makita batteries sound hollow because they have air vents through the inside. The charger blows air through them to allow faster charging and less degradation of capacity. They stay cooler when in use through convection and heat conduction. The material is also some kind of acrylic (edit: the material is polycarbonate) it's tougher and more expensive than dewalt and milwaukee battery cases, which I've had split way open just from regular use (not abuse) on an impact gun, like yours but worse.

I am running the Makita battery platform from my General Contracting/Remodeling business. Love there 18v platform. I also have a Mobile Detailing business that I run solo. To me it just made sense to buy this polisher. Cutting the cord for mobile makes a lot Of sense to me. At first I was disappointed with the performance. After doing a couple of paint corrections and Ceramic Graphine coatings, I love this machine. The forced rotation is like having the benefit of a rotary for heavy cutting. I use a microfiber pad. Then go to orbital mode. Than a blue pad in the same order. Than a white pad only in orbital mode, than to finish mode. The only mistake I saw in this review is the power saver mode. I believe makita calls it a finishing mode. Now that I have some experience with this machine, I would not use anything else. I now only carry two polishers for mobile. This Makita and Adam’s micro 2.0 polisher. Saves some room and covers everything I need to do.

One thing about the Makita is the batteries charge incredibly quickly.

I’ve had makita lithium batteries for over 10 years still going strong.

I’ve dropped many of my Makita batteries from all sorts of heights. No damage in 10 years.

Makita batteries are definitely durable. Plus they have built in voltage protection, I think the only red/blue/yellow brand that does, but not 100% sure

I stumbled across your videos and ended up watching a ton of them. Very informative and helpful. I didn't see any reviews on the pressure washing tips that alternate between different angle sprays on one single tip. Not sure if you've ever done one but that would be nice to see. If they actually work well they could be pretty useful. Thanks for the vids.

Never had any problems with my Makita batteries 12+ years. They might seem cheep, but if they ain't broke, no point in fixing 'em.

They just started their 40v line. I think I'm good with their 18.. tbh they made everything good enough.

I have the makita one 18v it’s very nice I have severe carpal tunnel and have no issues using it. The material doesn’t shoot all over the place buffed nice it is rather small but good.

That Makita sounds so good. Quality... I've had my rotary Makita for 20 years. 2 sets of brushes and 3 power cords. Still , it runs like a champ, though I only use it for serious corrections these days

Before the Milwaukee announced their random orbital I was considering the Makita as I have plenty of batteries for my OPEs. I'm glad I went with Milwaukee.

I love the Milwaukee. Such a great tool.

Makita actually came out with a forced dual action back in the early 90s it was a beast heavy as he'll and I don't think it ever took off. I used one many times polishing Prevost busses

Good review. I owned this makita for 2 years. Made a lot of money this machine. Excellent for cutting. Loved it but it never gave the jeweled clarity of my rupes in the final finish. Once I did a car with my new rupes 21 I was sold . It's as close to a forced action as you can get. If you get it just know you'll have to follow up in another step with a long throw for that ultra clear finish

Great review. I pre-ordered the new Milwaukee M18 FUEL 15mm Random Orbital Polisher Kit since I am already in the their battery ecosystem. I'm having a hard time waiting, because it doesn't ship until May 19.

Great review. This could be a great option for anyone who likes to use both dual action and forced rotation vs. having to buy two different polishers.

Great review, Im looking for a machine like this, I'm a Metabo guy and got several batteries, very very happy with all their tools and would choose a polisher from them

A tips on forced rotation. Don't use microfiber pads on it. Foam and shorthaird wool pads is the way to go. It's the same with the Flex forced rotation polishers. The walking and less correction from microfiber pads as usually on rotary polishers. Also since you can ad pressure you will destroy microfiber pads faster. Just some things to think about. Great video

You can use MF and wool Thr difference between flex and makita/Rupes is makita/Rupes are picky with pads and need a MF or Wool pad with ab inner foam layer like the BF uro fiber and LC low lint lambs wool pad

Thanks, I've been waiting for that. RUPES won't say anything about a battery operated model, and I was about ready to buy a FLEX. Makita batteries are cheap. They have always been that way. I still have my Makita battery-operated drill. It is 25 years old now. I had to buy new batteries, but it still works. ..El Cheapo batteries. I have (4) Milwaukee batteries.

Thanks to all the Makita supporters it has been great great tools for about 40 years, love their quality and the batteries last forever, I would never trade them for a Dewalt even Dewalt has pick up the quality

How do you get on with the NON forced rotation mode? I have this machine and I find that in "slip" mode it slips just too easily. The slightest pressure and it stops rotating altogether leaving only the orbiting part of the dual action. It means it can only really be used as a forced rotation machine. Is yours the same or do I perhaps have a dodgy one?

@@Springer5 Agreed, the DA mode on the machine can stall easily on curves. Just don't press down with any pressure and make sure to pump up the speed on curves when needed. I like the machine doing both jobs so I don't have to own two machines. I usually cut and finish in forced rotation mode then do a fine polish or apply a wax or AIO in DA mode.

I prefer the forced rotation although there are times i do reach for both rotary and DA. If I want a crazy polish i go rotary with a super soft foam pad and if im doing a single scratch ill go 21mm DA for the cutting ability. If i am doing a normal compound and polish its a Flex 3401 with a Rupes orange foam or microfiber and then i change finishing pads depending on the hardness of the paint. The forced action is incredible on glass as well. You can put tons of pressure on it and save tons of time.

Does anyone know if this could be used for sanding a grave stone with the correct sanding discs?

Interesting presentation but you are missing the point. The Makita was designed as a direct competitor to the RUPES BigFoot LK 900E...check it out they did the copy down to the last detail including the funky pad edge.

He said Makita batteries feel cheap and DeWalt batteries feel strong and then shows a crack in the DeWalt battery housing.

Same here I have both and the batterys of Dewalt cracks after couple of years. Makita batteries not a single one showes cracks!!🤔🙌

I have a question, what if some one leaves the polish on the pad for like a year after , and they use a polishing pad cleaner and let the pad dry , is it ok to use that pad again, or throw it away?

Nice review ! FYI you can get adapters to use batteries between different tools! I have the Dewalt DA polisher but I am invested in mostly Milwaukee batteries. I picked up and adapter plate to run Milwaukee batteries and it works great. I can’t wait to see your review on the two new Milwaukee da polishers that are coming out soon.

Hey Josh, unfortunately I live in Denmark but I would have pulled the trigger on the M15 Pro on your site, Maxshine does have a europe page but prices are a bit different then. I'm contemplating buying a cheaper corded polisher one with a 5" plate and if possible buy a 3" plate that fits just to do most of the jobs with it. Thx for the great content love your videos.

As a plumber of 25 years and a hobby detailer I have 10 Makita 5ah batteries. I've never damaged one or had one fail other than one I dropped in a vault full of water. I have around 6 DeWalt batteries and those have been very durable and reliable as well. I also have 10-15 Milwaukee 18v batteries, 4 Bosch 12v batteries, and the largest batteries I have are 40v Milwaukee. The Makita batteries have been as durable as any

One interesting thing thing, more with tools like the saws and drills, is that the maximum current output of the batteries is different. The 4Ah batteries actually have the highest peak current capacity, so for max power, those are actually the best option. The 5 is second, the 3 is third, and the 6Ah batteries have the lowest peak output. Runtime with something like this polisher is likely more important, though. You can of course run longer with the bigger amp-hour batteries. But if you need the maximum possible power from the tool (cutting through some dense wood, drilling a large hole, doing anything with their cordless heat gun, etc), the 4Ah battery is weirdly the best choice.

And yes, I've used a Makita battery on the a drill as a hammer a few times. Never broken one. It's funny; I've always thought the Dewalt stuff felt cheaper. 😂

I'm a Milwaukee 99% the 1% it's because the 2 Makitas polishers the cordless and corded. Many "pro" detailers avoid the useful option of forced rotation that means many doesn't know how to use the old rotary polishers .

That battery piece is a tensioner. It keeps it moving with the vibration. The handle is also free. It keeps yournhands ergonomic, expands the longevity of the tool and keeps the battery compartment from wearing out over time. They use this feature kn their hammer drills and rotary hammers as well. Their rotary hammers are much more intense than this tool. So I'm confident itll be fine. Im glad it has good reviews and i had to see it to know if jt was their higher line or just a makita badged home gamer product.

From having both brands my Makita continues to work after some DEWALT broke down. But for raw power DEWALT works well, just hate having to buy it over and over again. Milwaukee and Makita now on.

Can anyone tell me if the Milwaukee version is forced rotation? Ive spent gours trying to find out and nobody will mention this detail, which os really the only detail that matters. A reasonable person can fairly acurately estimate the other details of these polishers just by looking at them, but we cant tell if they are forced rotation or not. Can someone please help? Im commenting here because forced rotation is mentioned in the video title.

Not much info on this polisher out there, thank you so much for doing this video, I have the makita ecosystem but I'm still torn between this, milwaukee 15mm or flex. The very small throw in the makita doesn't appeal to me at all, that might mean slower paint correction process

That's why they have the forced rotation to speed up the job. That machine is a beast this guy call himself pro detailer but still afraid of rotation so he has never use the old rotary polishers.

Wondering if I can use a dual action polisher for cleaning my leather sofa and leather car seats. It's that recommended? Thinking it would make my life easier if I could swap out the microfibre pads for cleaning and conditioning the leather sofa.

That would probably damage leather seats. It's best to clean those surfaces by hand.

Just like the corded model, the free spin mode(5.5mm) is only useful for machine sanding or LSP install.. Its best left in FORCED mode for paint enhancement and paint corrections. As flr batteries, get a dewalt battery adapter for the Makita.. I run every brand with M18.. and sometimes bosch core Flex forced isnt good compared to makita

I have a Flex forced rotation polisher and I’m very happy with it.

If you had to rank the AmazonBasics, Harbor Freight and Armor All foam cannons, how would you list them? The only objective being the production of high levels of thick foam.

armour all hands down, tried all 3, armour all from oreiley is the best, produces considerably more stick foam

The battery housing is glass fiber enforced very strong!!!

Makita battery housings are polycarbonate. Strongest plastic out there . Also, Makita batteries are well known to have the best circuitry. If they feel cheap... they're not

YOU DID IT……BEEN SAYING ALL ALONG THE MAKITA IS A BEAST AND HARDLY ANY CONTENT ON IT. Esp. Since it comes with 6” backing plate and the switch for Rotary and DA eith Forced rotation. We’re you able to get the 6” backing plate on? I’m having trouble getting my 5” off. PLUS THE MAKITA BATTEIES CHARGE SUPER FAST AND YOU CAN USE THEM WITH SPTA POLISHERS. NICE WORK. Also, are you aware of the Makita Battery music trick? Slide battery on charger then remove quickly for different songs to indicate charge is complete.

Just a comment on the battery yes they seem cheap the feel and touch of the makita seems that way, but inside is where it counts I’ve had 3 new batteries from dewalt fail due to a small solder joint inside so you have to be a bit careful running them hard and makita I’ve had 1 fail in 10 years!

@@1le_ace have you tried an alkaline rinse with apc or foam? That's what I prefer because it will take off almost all the dirt on any vehicle.

makita batteries are great. Never had one crack. They last forever and I drop them often.

Have Dewalt and Makita and Makita batteries out last Dewalt by long long time

Makita battery’s are all but indestructible for their intended use. They are the essentially the Toyota of tools in every way, including being a little behind on tech.

Iv got a dozen or so makita bats, various ages up to maybe 10 yrs. and many that look beat up pos. All work. I have 5 dewalt 20v. 3 bats came from a pawn shop. Tool and bats look pristine like they lived in a home owners garage, never saw a job site , but they are varying degrees of useless pos. I don’t recall ever coming across a bad makita battery, even among a few beaters picked up in pawn shops.

I’ve dropped from 15 foot on scissor lift and battery survived lol.

Once you've dropped a Makita battery a few thousand times, and used them as a hammer, you'll know who to go for.

Have you ever reviewed the Ryobi battery powered polisher?

Yes Milwaukee has new 15 and 21mm polishers.

For makita batteries, I will tell you yes they feel cheap, but I have yet to break one.. I own an operate a full service repair shop and I can tell you every time I dropped my tools, the batteries don’t give 2 shits about being dropped, and most of their tools eject the battery to protect it from big drops

Maybe the piece helps with vibration, which batteries hate

I guess makita isn‘t brushless. So it might not be a mounting point for a handle, it should be the cole that is easy to change :)

FYI Makita batteries are the real deal. Dont be fooled by the "knocking sound. I have owned them for years and have never had one break or crack

The knocking sound is for the airflow around the cells of the batteries (which contain many “cells” ) so the air keeps the reconditioning efficient cooling. (And there are vent fans in the charger itself. As a smart battery , its one of the best (18v or 40v).

Are you sure that's a brushless motor? Cause I see what look like brushes screws at the front.

They advertise it as a brushless unit. I think the screws youre referring to (which do look lik ethey could be to access brushes) are actually for adding a handle if you wanted

If you don't like the forced rotation from that one then stay away from the old school rotary buffers.

makita batteries are beefy and take abuse, ive dropped makita tools off a ladder almost every other day for two years, when i did awning installation never broke, always charged batteries in direct sunlight and they got stupid hot, never showed signs of wear

"The batteries feel cheap - These Dewalt batteries feel high quality check out this crack" WTF lol It was like you were trying to diss the Makita the whole time but it was all user error. In 15 years of using Makita daily I've had (2) 3 amp batteries go bad out of 20 and only 1drill break on me.

Me being left handed the lock on the Dewalt is right where my thumb falls on the handle. I know it’s not designed for lefties but it’s a happy accident by their design team lol

That's a pricey bugger. All my cordless tools are Makita, so I'm heavily invested in that ecosystem, but I think I'll skip this one, even the bare tool is pricey. Makita makes some the of the best, most durable, quality cordless tools IMO. I guess I'll just stick with my griots g8 for now.

Why you didn’t get FLEX which is much better than Makita

Yeah I agree in most cases a corded polisher is all you need. And then you don’t have to worry about battery life
