Seems like you're missing a step that says to turn shirt right-side out

Hi! Thank you for your comment. You would not turn the shirt right-side-out before embroidering. If you do that, then the bracket that connects the hoop to the embroidery module would be on the inside of the shirt and thus unable to connect. If there seems to be too much bulk in the way with the shirt partially turned inside out, you could hold it away from the needle and out of the way with painter’s tape or large binder clips. Happy embroidering!
