Cass Elliot was a fantastic mover... Check out footage of her singing with The Mammas and The Papas.. she is so light footed she floats in tropical hued swing dresses and her white go-go boots!! A great performer of musical standards she could have been a successful star of her own TV variety show like all the ones she guested on had she lived a longer life.

Heart attack it was they say it was! She was too young to have such an issue. There are ladies who have more stones on them and may/may not have any medical concerns but heart attack don’t happen easy. I reckon she’d had emotional distress. Hearts can barely bear that load. I was heavier but lost significantly due to gallbladder inflammation which I had removed by surgery and been following a healthy lifestyle ever since. I feel good thank goodness but when I get emotionally tired my heart plays different types of music every now and then. lol Meditation levels up balance! Add herbal teas to that!

She was exceptionally talented. But the entertainment industry was underrated her, as it was want to do to women. Lots of talent out there, and those exec hogs would use them up and toss them into the trash as some new teen could be exploited. But Cass livesforever in my memory, if not in anyone else's.

@@sealyoness - Strange that you would make such a comment in a program starring a woman and knowing that Cass was one of most active entertainers at that time, continuously on television and hardly considered a disposable commodity. People like to make believe history was a nightmare to certain classes of people. It was, but to men. At that time 1000's of men were being drafted and killed in the Vietnam war. Those that returned were shunned while suffering PTSD. Now there's a group that was truly treated like trash.

The guy playing Stanley in the first sketch is Tom Lowell, a great character actor of the 50s-70s who appeared in many TV shows and films. Most remember him for his part in the star-packed Disney film "That Darn Cat" (1964'ish) with Hayley Mills. I met Tom a few times and he was very nice. Later in life he taught acting.

I like that Cass was given a straight love song to sing, without any comedy elements, and she got a handsome man at the end. I did notice, however, that the dancers were often positioned in front of her. I didn’t expect the fat jokes in “As The Stomach Turns” but she seemed to be taking part willingly and with good humor. I’m sure she was OK with them.

She was not. To her these appearances were her part of her “job” though so she always went along with it. Many of her close friends and family have talked in great length that she did cry after some of these shows because the jokes about her weight were constant. If you watch her episode of Scooby doo, the whole 40 min episode is just digs at her being fat

I think if Ms. Elliot REALLY didn’t want any jokes at her expense, she could’ve said something to Carol or the writers. Wasn’t like she was a regular on the show. She could’ve just walked off and said “take the heavy jokes out, or I’m gone”. Then again it was only 3 networks. It could’ve backfired cuz it would’ve spread on all the shows that she’s “difficult” to work with.

Looking back now, I see that Carol and crew were out to not exploit, but promote women entertainers who needed that boost. She truly knew, like Phyllis Diller and other lady entertainers, how cruel the male-dominated industry would be to women. Some of those men were no better than pimps, unashamed and eager to exploit their talents. She also promoted gentlemen of great talent and sensitivity. My view is we also should, and I hope it is the view of many others.

The weight jokes about Cass Elliot hurt nowadays tbh, as she died of malnourishment. Her weight was not something she could control since age 7, as she starved herself and lost 100 lbs and died of heart failure after the weight loss. She had severe weight struggles, and it must have hurt Cass to be in such a skit. May she RIP, a victim of a misogynistic patriarchy.

Will you ever post the Season 5, Episode 18, episode of the Carol Burnett show with Eydie Gorme and Vincent Price as guest stars, or is it unavailable on KZread? It was originally broadcast on CBS-TV on February 9,1972, and it was one of my favorite episodes of the show, with Vincent Price reciting " Desiderata" and Eydie Gorme singing "The Way of Love" in Spanish, and it had the "Elevator" sketch and the "House of Terror " sketch on it.
