Seo linne d'aon ghuth amháin
Seo linn a chairde buan', 'sé atá i ndán dúinn
Seo linn ag tabhairt faoi le cion
Tá sí fós anseo, 's airím an nós
Go bhfuil an t-athrú ' tíocht, ar ár n-intinn óó
Céard dhó a sheasaim? Céard dhó a sheasaim?
Seo linn, an rud is mó, Í 'bheith beo

Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireas an croí go deo
Rachaidh muid le chéile ina treo
Droichead 1

Is beag a sháraíonns na briathra binne gléigeal gléigeal
Seo 'd anois é, seo 'nois é mmm mmm
Cúrfá 2
Seo linn a Ghaelaibh, mairfeadh muid gach lá í,
Cuir spraoi 's bród insan saol
Seo linn go fonnmhar, áthasach 's gliondar
Seo linn gan casadh siar riamh
Tá sí fós anseo, 's airím an nós
Go bhfuil an t-athrú ' tíocht, ar ár n-intinn(e) óó
Céard dhó a sheasaim? Céard dhó a sheasaim?
Seo linn, an rud is mó, 'nois an t-am
An Chaint

Arbh í an chúis a bhí a'inn le 'aidh seo?

A' cailleadh cairde 's gaol le 'aidh seo?
Ach, nuair a fheicim na réalta, farraigí 's sléibhte - airím an tsaoirse

Ireland - still the only independent Celtic nation, and yet apparently unable to put the effort into its language: compare that to Welsh - 1600 years of the Saes trying to wipe it out, and now Welsh Medium Schools are a government policy, with more and more of those being opened. Get your act together.

It's a shame, I went to English medium schools at both primary and secondary level and while the language is mandatory I learnt more teaching myself than in all the time I spent in school, I'm almost fluent now I'd like to believe, but the way it's taught makes it a chore to learn for students which makes them resent the language. There's too much focus on literature when the kids cant even speak the language, its like showing an Indonesian poem to a Frenchman and asking him to write about its intricacies. The government doesn't care about the language because there's no monetary benefit to reviving it, so people have to rely on private organisations, which has just made the language seem pompous and middle class to people who cant afford to go to the private institutions, which is the exact opposite of what it used to be before. It's just a bad situation made worse by a neglectful government. Edit: Just as a final note, the situation with the teaching of the language is so bad that I didn't even know that letters were pronounced differently in school because my teachers never covered it and they were unfamiliar with the sounds too, so teachers that don't know how to pronounce words teach the next generation which then go off to teach it wrong again, it's disgraceful the state of the education system here.

Having gone through the irish school system I know well how badly irish is taught. But I still got a fairly good hang of it. Your comment is far more of a rant however, you ignore the fact that the irish held out very well with their own language for hundreds of years under english occupation before famine and emigration wiped it out in earnest and relegated it to the levels we see today. No such destructive history was experienced by the welsh or Scottish or other Celtic nations. It’s too easy and lazy to simply look at the situation now without understanding history. Your ignorance and laziness in this regard is exactly what you’re accusing the irish of being. Ironic.

As someone who has 3 sons who have gone to lurgan, I'm afraid you really have no idea. Lurgan is passionate in promoting Gaeilge, making sure the students learn the language in a fun way ie... through music, sport, social interaction etc. They made friends for life! The songs are translated and all the students learn them. No limelight...just making the language 'cool' and fun. So much work went into this! No need for negative comments. Someone will always knock enthusiasm and innovation! Sad!

Gaeilge is one of the absiolute most beautiful languages in the world by far. every word sounds like it can end a song and it all just sounds right. its beautiful and every word sounds right together and its always rymes. and seemingly it does not matter the phrase, it just is always beautiful!

+AlcaZ'one I am not Irish either but I live in Ireland. I moved here because I love the country, people, culture but especially the language so much. I came here to learn Irish. I'm not fluent....but I am getting there. BTW, the language is called IRISH (when speaking english) and Gaeilge (when speaking Irish), not Gaelic. Gaelic is the culture, which includes the language but is not solely the language, of the Gaelic people (Ireland, Isle of Man, Newfoundland, and Scotland).

Even the foreign kids loved their Christian names to be translated.. BUT NO MORE.. I FULLY BLAME THE DEPT AND GOVERNMENT for their complacency... We are going to lose our language if its left up to them..

Listening to these videos, no matter who you are, makes you stronger in body, spirit, mind and beautiful! You also can’t help singing, dancing, smiling, sharing and loving~kindness and diversity! Diversity, which apparently is one of God’s most favorite things because God filled the world full of it, and gave us the ability to be so creative ourselves, is a key to our happiness and peace of mind until we meet God face to face (or bow and cover our face).

This is wonderful and gives me hope in so many ways: reveling in seeing the passing of the torch to the next generation, their enthusiasm about making it a *living*, breathing everyday language, the flexibility of Irish music to embrace, meld and fuse with the changing of times while remaining passionate about its roots. All of these together ensures its survival. Oh yeah, you've captivated the world without even trying to do so. Keep going Colaiste Lurgan.

@@arklowscooterteam9943 We say Gaidhlig (Scottish Gaelic) as opposed to Scots which is a separate language spoken in Scotland, Gaelg (Manx Gaelic) spoken in the Isle of Man, or Gaelge (Irish Gaelic). Gaelic, when speaking of languages, refers to the grouping of 3 different languages.
