Bench made from a very old oak log
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video, I demonstrate the process of making a bench from a very old oak log that once served as the foundation of an old clay house where my grandparents lived. Judging by the number of annual rings I could count, this oak tree was over a hundred years old when it was cut down, and as the foundation log, it lay there for nearly 100 years, so it is truly ancient wood. I hope that this bench will also serve people for many more years to come.
The edges of this oak log were quite fragile in places, so I decided to reinforce and fill weak spots with epoxy resin.
I'm happy with the outcome - the bench turned out strong and stable, it has historical value and preserves the memory of generations.
Taking the opportunity I want to remind to my subcribers that our fight for independence continues! Ukrainians have been defending their land from the russian aggressor for over 600 days. It's a tough, grueling war of attrition, but we steadfastly believe that victory will be ours!
Thanks to all our allies and partners who are helping Ukraine in our struggle for liberation from russian aggression.
Thank you all for watching!
Stay safe!
Glory to Ukraine!

The footage of the "sawing supervisor" was a nice addition.
Not only a wonderful amount of talent, now talent with a new supervisor ☺, I always enjoyed watching your kids climbing in the cabinets when younger. Good test of craftsmanship.
I love sitting and watching your videos. It's almost zen like for me.
California here....VERY COOL~
Awesome build Nick!!!! Blessings to Ukraine from Texas!
It is beautiful. Will last generations. Thanks for the video.
This is a very nice rustic wooden bench. I like the fact that you don't use a single nail or screw in any of your furniture whenever possible. And that you almost always use second-hand wood. Really very good work. Thank you very much
Beautiful bench. ❤👍👍
You never disappoint us, you're an artist, and the inspectors checking every single detail 😂

Another amazing design/build Nick-you truly are a master craftsman. At 65 I'd love to have your energy and a little of the talent that God has gifted you with. Truth is, as much as I enjoy your videos, I equally enjoy seeing that your family is still safe. Praying for you all and thanking God for a different gift-answered prayers. God bless.

Neat idea using the mortising drill bit by hand :D
I love your new shop assistant in the beginning of the video.

Hi 👋, Liviv , very nice bench, I haven’t seen a blind Foxwoods joint for years, I have used this for myself many many years ago for making furniture and doors, keep up the great work, stay safe, look forward to seeing your next project. Phil from the moulin France.

That is the best woodwork I have ever seen! I am speechless! Incredible sir! For the edges, I use an angle grinder and a sanding disc of 40 grit. Will do the same but with much more mess😂
Beautiful project!❤
What a great design. I love the attention to detail, even going so far as to put the nails back in that you took out of the log.

Люди дивляться такі відео, і думають, що столярні роботи робляться за пів години, як в відео. В Україні, нажаль, люди не цінять таку роботу...
Soon you will have your puppy trained to sit and lay down on projects, maybe even raise a paw as a high-five. Democracy supports Ukraine as best we can. 👍👍👍
Переглядаєш і отримуєш естетичне задоволення. 🎉

A new boxer dog.
You did it again didn't you? Showed all us mere mortals what real craftsmanship is once again with a beautiful rustic bench that would elevate any garden or patio to the highest level. Your skills seem to know no bounds and your tolerance of a mischievous little puppy has added another reason for me to look forward to your next installment. Is that your puppy? If so I'm amazed that you were able to get the quality inspection team to stop playing with the pup give you bench the approval it deserved. Please continue to stay safe with your wonderful family and remember Ukraine is not alone you are supported far and wide and we are all praying for a just and speedy end to this insanity that the mad dog Putin has brought upon you, Slava Ukraini!

Thank you for these kind words of support! We really need it, it's hard to stay positive when the enemy is doing arbitrariness in your country! This is a new boxer puppy, he is only 4 months old and he loves to bite everyone, so it was not possible to combine the puppy with children, the children love to play with him, but run away from him when he is close to bite. If the puppy was present on the set, they would just sit on this bench the whole time! ;)
I'm not a fan of the "live edge" trend except for those rare occasions where it works perfectly, this is one of those, multiple joinery elements as well. It's a departure from your typical design features, I like it. Have you considered doing a project along these lines using mostly hand tools? It would challenge you and I think you'd pull it off well. By mostly, I mean the basic roughing out of the wood with power tools, the remainder, including finished surface, with hand tools. You'll have fun.

Thank you, I usually start with a general idea to do some ordinary thing, then in the process of preparing the material, everything is sketched in my head by itself and becomes more complicated, my hands cannot always reproduce everything that arises in my head.
