I thought so too. Pretty sure it's not a matter of keeping up, but peer pressure. Maher went a little hard for a minute or two so he set the tone...kinda hard to be the first to applaude "the other guy" on a talk show like that. Got to give them both credit though. Shapiro kept his cool when Maher was getting hot, and I think Maher read that. It ended up being a really good interview. There's always *some* kind of common ground to be found, right?

Ben was back for the panel with Malcolm Nance. And Bill went on Ben's podcast. So, yeah ... I don't think Maher really avoided him. Easy sailing? Well he looked like he was backed into a corner, when he said Trump wasn't the thought president. Or when he said the constitution is a durable document, when Bill asked him if he thinks Trump respects the rule of law. I'd say otherwise he handled himself pretty well, but he did admit to some things about Trump that he probably wouldn't have otherwise.

@@percussionmax Bill had avoided having him on until this one-on-one setting. Once he saw Ben was pleasant and sensible, he followed up with the other segments. Ben was extremely divided on Trump, so he was never backed into a corner about him. Maher needs to give it a rest on Trump. He blathers on and on about him, and it gets really tiresome. He needs to find another target.

Yeah, I caught that too. Narcissist. Sorry Nathan - swing and a miss. You're either a fan of civility or you are not. If you're a fan of it but fail to live up to that, it doesn't mean you stop being a fan of it - so it doesn't make sense to say what he said in that context. In fact Bill said, "we'll see if we're each other's fan at the end of this."

What I have come to appreciate about Ben is his poise. Look at his posture. Look at his swallowing. His eye contact. The moment he steps into the ring, he is there for a cage fight. I defy anyone to go head to head with Ben Shapiro on literally any subject. He will break you. Not by being rude, not by interrupting, not by forcing falsehoods or ideals, simply by logic. Man is a genius. Bill Maher is also right there too. Bill Maher today is a conservative pundit by todays so-called "liberal agenda".

@From a Bicycle seat Except when Ben Shapiro is hosting his show, it is simply a one on one talk(usually), and is without any resemblance of a crowd. Ben Shapiro doesn't abuse supporters, and when he is (for example) on a college campus where he will have supporters, he often times tells them to quiet down and let the person speak. In fact, recently he had a talk with one of the Democratic candidates here: www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2019/04/07/andrew_yang_on_the_ben_shapiro_show.html There is no abuse of a crowd, at all, he doesn't let any audience come on stage. Shapiro, as well as many right-wing debaters, don't follow suit with the precedent set by left-wing debaters, they don't abuse the power of a crowd and they, in fact, tend to shut them up when they're in a serious debate.

I can't believe when Maher said "ladies, he's rich" that Shapiro didn't say something like "but also married to a doctor".

Have to be honest.. As someone who is considered "liberal" I really can't argue with anything Ben Shapiro is saying here. We may not agree on everything, but I think he is definitely an intelligent person who is capable of being rational and objective. I don't know why Bill keeps attacking Trump as if he is expecting Ben to unconditionally defend him because Shapiro isn't doing that. He has always been capable of being critical of Trump when he thinks he is wrong.

Jack Casey, is he expecting Shapiro to unconditionally defend Trump though? Maher chose to discuss the cases where Shapiro agrees with Trump and they elaborated on their disagreements.

Billy F, "Maher has an extreme leftist myopic view on everything" Did you watch the episode with Ben Affleck and Sam Harris? Maher is definitely not with the left with respect to the muslim religion. He's also extremely anti-PC. I'll bet this is the 1st episode of Real Time with Bill Maher you've ever watched because you're incapable of watching anything resembling left-wing.

Billy F, are they "small aspects" though? It's one of the first things that came to Shapiro's mind when he was getting into how Democrats are "insane". It's what Trump supporters are most vocal about. Maybe I should've said they both mentioned but didn't go into why they did or didn't support trump, but Maher was totally fair about separating Shapiro from most Trump supporters, which are idiots. Everything before Shapiro got into how Democrats are "insane" was completely civil and fair. I can tell your education didn't go beyond high school and you probably hated writing class. You sound like you're arguing with someone about how your favorite wrestler is the best. If you want an intelligent discussion on policy, go read a book or take a macroeconomics class. Stay off the internet. Shapiro and Maher are in the business of manipulating people, not educating.

Jesse Collins TBH I'm not really into this whole "side" or "team" mentality... I like to make decisions on case by case basis. My conservative friends call me a "liberal" but I have a bunch of guns. It seems a lot of people either think it should be every man for themselves or every one gets a free ride. I think you can help people in need without just becoming a socialist country. Things aren't as black and white as people make it out to be.

People don't seem to understand, you can Be a Republican or Democrat and not always be happy with who is currently leading the party you prefer. People also need to realize, neither party is perfect. Both tend to lie, do corrupt things, and at the end of the day, take your money. So you aren't always going to be 100% in full support on every idea, if you are... you either have no mind of your own, or your completely full of shit. I can proudly say I am an Independent for these reasons.

People also need to realize trump was a registered Democrat until 2008. There is also a video from the early 90s/late 80s (I am too lazy to look that shit up, look it up “trump presidential interview 90s” if you don’t believe me you dumb cunts) where he explicitly states he’d run as a republican were he to ever run for public office because they’re a bunch of morons 🤦🏻‍♂️
