Ben Nevis Ultra 2022 | Skyline Scotland | Film My Run
I have attempted the Ben Nevis Ultra twice before and have never reached the finish line. Would this be my year? In the company of Zwift friends Clive and Marcus I set off to climb Britain's tallest mountain and add a few more Scottish Munros to my slowly growing collection.

......Lovely is an interesting way of describing it!! Bloody hard work is what it is!! Haha, no you're right it is stunning, especially when the weather is clear. But that doesn't happen very often. You fancy it?
Great account of a tough race. Congratulations on getting it done. I find it very funny how on ultras time gets warped and even with a clock and watch I still get confused about what my finish time was 😂Glad to see it's not just me.

Oh, it was so confusing because we started 15 minutes earlier than usual in the first wave and all the checkpoint times were changed and the marshals weren't exactly sure and they extended the cut off time as well. So I had no idea what I was aiming for in the end!
Certain death or certain DNF. Now there's a choice that nobody wants to be faced with 😂 Brilliant stuff, Stephen. You managed to cut it fine, and keep us on the edge of our seats while you were confidently chatting away and admiring the scenery 👍🏻🏃♂️

Oh hey Ruth. Lovely to meet you too and thank you so much for your comments. Hopefully I'll be back up there next year for the Ring of Steall or the 80k
Well done, another great video. Very tough race. I know how long these descents on Munros can take. I was timed out on the Glenshee nine by just 4 minutes after 6 Munros of the 9. Took me ages to get down to the road crossing CP as the bolders kept moving under foot. Still soper impressed by your TDS finish this year.

Thanks Mark. Yes, interesting to compare the long slow hike of TDS against the fast hard run of Ben Nevis. Similar and different at the same time.
So freaking proud of you for trying over and over again until you completed the Ben Nevis Ultra!! I really enjoyed this video, such beautiful footage, and I loved the honest, reflective narration! I don't know why but it gives me goosebumps when you are just about to finish and say "The light is desperately fading, I've got 3 k to go..." and refuse to put the head torch on. Such an epic moment. I was there that weekend too, racing on the Glen Coe Skyline course, and I know firsthand how challenging yet beautiful this area is. I laughed out loud when you said "Under no circumstances should anyone join the Glen Coe Skyline queue, it is certain death!". I am sure it was not easy to hold the camera while also trying to beat the cut-offs - thank you so much for documenting this race and taking me back to a phenomenal day in the Scottish Highlands!

A brilliant film Stephen. Sorry if this comes across as weird but I am so proud of you for completing this challenge. Having DNF’d twice before you show your resilience and determination to get it done. I can’t imagine trying to navigate some of that terrain (and still live to tell the tail). You are such a good runner. You’ve done a video talking about your fails for the year, none are failures. You work hard, you train hard, you take on these difficult challenges, I’m in awe. Hi Steven, good to see your great report. If anything you made it seem to easy! You failed to mention how many times you took a bum slide on the drop into Glen Nevis. I live in the village, so know the route very well, though was surprised how long the final descent took, with over 1000 runners before you it sure trashed the path, and being in the half light gave a few sketchy moments, and on that nasty little diversion through the Heather was a real mud fest. You did well to get down through the forest without a head torch, I did likewise, but know every rock. That said looking at others that past me, I lost a good few minutes. You past me at the start, somewhere along the way I past you, as you past me again just after the final river crossing. You were 12m ahead at the finish. I had the honour of being the last in, though the oldest, perhaps ever. Look forward to seeing you back next year.

Hi Siobhan. The Mudclaws were interesting because they were great on the wet grass and mud but I didn't feel I could trust them on the wet rock on the exposed ridges and I was slower over those sections partly because of that. I'll definitely have a look at those races you mentioned. I do love fell racing even though it's not my natural running background. Are you still running?

@FilmMyRun
Жыл бұрын
Haha, well yes. But I can only do a sub three marathon at the absolute top end of my fitness. I've only managed it once. I do genuinely consider myself a mid pack runner. And most of my race results would put me there.
How would this compare to the TDS, although the distance is quite different how is the pain cave threshold? Thanks love the video and your content…have a great weekend.
@FilmMyRun
Жыл бұрын
In terms of terrain it's similar in some respects and very different in others. You won't get any deep bogs on TDS, but the technical climbing and steep ascents are similar. With Ben Nevis you have to go as fast as you can for 12 hours and it's over pretty quickly. TDS is a much slower, long hike. So the pain is a different kind of pain. TDS is much more of a mental battle to keep moving forward. Ben Nevis is more a physical battle against the course.
