My girlfriend of four years left me a few weeks ago. No reason other than she wanted to go to uni. She cut me off after 4 great years together and I don’t see the point in much anymore. It feels like I have to struggle to wake up in the mornings, and I get this pain in my gut when I see photos of her and me. I’m struggling to see the bright side of things right now, and I guess I’m feeling pretty alone.

There is something worse than having no one to share your thoughts with, and that's having the thoughts of others forced upon you, in whatever way. Being alone is absolutely fine, being left alone is essential to live any sort of pleasant life. One day perhaps all of us will just be left alone.

Ben Howard you saved me from a life full of mediocre music. Thank you for putting things into lyrics that I’ve always wanted to say.

Someone felt the same pain and composed a song from the suffering soul. Tonight he's patching up my own soul in the middle of the night. I thank God for the gift of pouring feelings into such a beautiful song. Thank you to the author for something so wonderful.

I do believe every song this guy has is just filled with nostalgic vibes of regret, love, loss, fear...the entire human experience every single time.

Absolutely the guitars are amazing

I love when they use this soundtrack in movies. I first it on the Series Power when Ghost and Angela broke up. It fit just right. Perfect for that scene.

As someone who’s currently undergoing a breakup of a 7-year relationship, I can assure you that the second half of this song is EXACTLY what heartbreak feels like. I hope if you’re reading / listening, you never understand what it’s like.

I agree with your analysis on the comparability of the chaos and pain within the song and it being synonymous with heartbreak. However, this pain is inevitable when you fall in love, at least for the majority of people. Whether they break up or the other half dies, this pain is there. Without risking the pain you will never have experienced love, and to me that is worse than any heartbreak imaginable

You know when you grow up and hear certain artists or songs that were your childhood? Ben Howard will most likely be that for my kids. My three children were born into the world to Ben’s music. My oldest who just turned 4 has me play this song every night to him while he lays in bed. Makes me sing it and listen to it with our old CD player. He lays there listening so intently. I feel honored to witness such innocence and beauty that seems hard to find in this world. To me, it’s Ben’s greatest work and most powerful piece.

I've been listening to this song for 3 years, it still impacts me as much as it did the first time I heard it

This is the best piece of music ive ever listened too, the way he took the emotions from Maurice Bendrix from the novel all the way through out is just amazing.

To me, this is old relationships. But the biggest most important thing it reminds me of is the bond of 18 years i had with my dog. She got me through pain, loss, and the death of my father she helped me find my heart again. She's been gone 3 years now. My heart is stone again

God why can't I stop crying listening to half of Ben Howard's songs? There is something so deeply emotionnal, from another world. It's a mix of joy and sadness, a nostalgia from a faded memory, so beautiful and so sad at the same time.

Over time, his music really changed and matured into incorporating much more complex emotions and experience. This is simply powerful!!

Cant believe I'm just discovering this guy. His music sets me free!

Still convinced Ben Howard is a living legend, sad to say that the best are never appreciated while their heart still keeps a beat. As others have mentioned, his work just makes so many others seem mediocre, ingenuine and empty of any real emotions.
