For me this was Ben at his peak. He had started to steer away from the mainstream music that had made him so popular to create stuff that he actually wanted to make. This was a sort of halfway house between that mainstream music and the abstract/creative rabbit hole that he has since gone down. His current stuff is above my head and not my cup of tea but I respect the journey he’s on. Would have been all too easy for him to have kept churning out radio-friendly pop songs that he hated and made a fortune. He’s doing what he wants to do and as long as he’s happy, that’s all that matters.

I just cry. 16 wonderful years together. 4 years going through a messy divorce. And less than 7 minutes for Ben Howard to make me relive it all. Took her nephew on as an apprentice at my painting and decorating company. Good lad but it hurts to hear how well she's doing now with her new man. Listen to this on repeat every night when I get home from the boozer. Drunk tears streaming down my face. Sobbing. Nose running. Fists clenched. Head all over the place. Sometimes I get so angry I smash up the living room. Only Ben Howard can do this to me. Cheers.

This song captured my pain coming out of a 5 year relationship (from 15-20) perfectly. We built our young lives together, had the same friends, family… I was young and thought it was the end of the world. It’s still nice to feel that catharsis. The sadness of the first part of the song to the anger and confusion of the latter part. Perfect. Anyone listening for that reason ‘this is desert’ is not true. Give it time. You will be ok I promise.

I don't know why but this song just won't let me go. It's in my head. In my heart. I cannot understand how do you move on from love, how do you even start to do that. How do you cope with losing "us" and becoming just "me" when all you wish for is one more time together, one more chance, a silly joke, or a lazy sunday afternoon in bed together planning that amazing future that will never happen. Heartbreaking, really. But damn - Ben sings about it so beautifully that you almost want your heart to be broken just to relate to this masterpiece. Thank you Ben for being you and doing what you do.

You don't move on, because the love is never gone. Those moments really did happen, and they are still as real as they were then. Don't grieve the future that didn't happen. Embrace the past that did, treasure those memories. But live in today, be you. Gift your love to someone, every day, over and over. keep chasing your dreams. That special someone will come again, and this time "that amazing future" will just happen, you wont need to plan in because you'll live it. Or at least that's how i see it :)

Let alone play them live while delivering a flawless vocal performance! It’s mesmerising!

This has been recommended to me for years now but I only took the time to listen to it last month. What moves me almost as much as the music are the comments.

Im a hip hop and trap producer and about the biggest apologist for trap music you’ll ever find. That said, this is real music, sound pushed to its limits. This is what should be studied for years to come

I think we are watching the best musician of our generation right here. It's one thing going into a studio and writing 2 flawless albums, but to create this level of emotion and atmosphere live, is quite special. I felt like I was in the audience. Genius at work!
