    Are you even allowed to call it a restoration if you're replacing original cast iron rims from the late 1800s with cheap steel bases? 😉

    This is a really cool restoration, and I appreciate the PF references! If you find that the belt slips under load when using the grinder, it may be because the pulley on the electric motor isn't really intended to drive a belt. Great work, Cap'n!

    What restoration? That was originally a very old bench grinder and it was also modified/butchered many decades ago. So it's no longer original and then he modified it again so it's even less original. It's no longer an antique of any kind. He also put it on a modern stand. A real restoration would be to turn it back into a bench grinder without cutting off the work supports. A total hodgepodge with parts from different eras. A restoration is to turn something back into the way it was originally designed and built from the factory. This might be considered what some people refer to as a renovation. To take something old or historic and modernize it into something that no longer resembles the original.

    Thanks for the video Brett. Nice rebuild. You really need handles for those files. Use a golf ball on the bigger one. I'm sure you can knock up a simple wood turning handle for the small ones or a bit of a rubber hose or even a re-use an empty 12g CO2 cylinder I have seen someone do somewhere? Keep safe and stay well.

    Did you cut off the tool rest mounts because you never plan to use this as a grinder again? Just a buffer wire wheel machine.

  • @skullandspade

    @skullandspade

    Pretty much. We tend to use stone/hard wheels on the angle grinder, and in the last 4 years, I’ve never needed those rests. More dangerous than they’re worth

    Never strike threads with a steel hammer,if yo do not have a plastic mallet,use a tennis ball to sliip over the hammer to provide a softer surface .

  • @skullandspade

    Since 99% of the striking was done with a wrench, and the hammer was about 2 light taps, can you please suggest what to do when wrench striking?

    While I wish there'd been a serious-gourmet-shit coffee sponsorship for this one, I appreciate that the game sponsor is supporting you and your work! Is Rustoleum on board too? Laughed more than once, thanks for all your efforts!
