We started the weekend off in Addington which is an interestingly situated village next to the large town of Croydon. The bells are easy going however they are considerably small for the tower.
Me and Fraser then took off to Westminster for his quarter peal attempt at St. Martin In The Fields. While that was going on, I got drenched in the pouring rain as I tried making use of time by walking through the City Of London and trying to capture some bellringing. After the hecticness, Fraser and I set back off to Addington for some more general ringing.
On the second day, I started the day off by ringing at Leyton which is a town in Southwest Essex. The bells are a light octave on plain bearings however they go considerably well and don’t need such a pull to keep them up. We then went to Hackney for a bit, a gorgeous 16cwt Whitechapel ring of 10 in the key of F. We then set off to St. Ann’s Stamford hill which are another pleasant light octave in the key of A. We then returned to Hackney for some more general ringing followed by a quarter peal of Grandsire and Bob Doubles. The ringing I recorded here was a touch of Plain Bob Minor called by none other than Guy Wells.
And the on the final day I began the day by ringing at my local tower of St. Mary’s Stoke Newington which are a lumpy six however I absolutely adore them as they are. We followed my going to South Hackney to ring my first peal which was a success and we rang 5040 Grandsire Triples. From this tower you’ll hear us ringing all eight down in peal. Some of the band continued ringing and set off to Bow which is right in the heart of the East End and houses a lovely but flighty 14cwt octave. We then set off to another tower in the East End which was St. Matthews Bethnal Green which has another 14cwt octave but in a much smaller tower than Bow.
