Nice job, nice video. Thanks for doing this. I have a Bell & Howel model 550. Similar, but older. It doesn't have the white lines for "loop positions" and the size of the loops causes me problems. It has "auto load" but it seems to jam up now and then. This threading film helped a bit. Thanks!

I just remember our school had a Filmosound 16mm sound projector which the lab technician for the Chemistry and Physics Labs worked and it had an external speaker.

This is an excellent tutorial really in depth although camera work could be better but still a 10 out of 10!

Marvellous! I'm considering getting a Bell and Howell 642, which I guess is a similar manual-threader. Out of genuine interest, do you have any tips on how to avoid manual projectors chewing up, eating (and presumably digesting!) films when they're being projected

The main thing I encountered was dirt and improper threading. To check the threading, the inching dial is your best friend. I'd also suggest going online and downloading a copy of the original manual so you can be sure to get everything right.

OK, correction! at mark 3:40 he says close film gate (lens). STOP! Now at this point all the actions are fine and the action after is as well but when you finish and start the film there is 50% chance that the film will shutter, blur possibly breaking, damaging the film. Why? In the film gate path there are film teeth just to the left or right of the bulb aperture. In order to have a perfect everytime start you MUST ALIGN THE FILM SPROCKETS WITH THESE TEETH PRIOR!!! TO CLOSURE OF THE FILM GATE. Thank you.

Moving the inching dial at the back on this projector will move the film into alignment before starting the motor

What external speaker are you using for this projector?

I think I was using a technics SB CS7 in this video. Anything with an 8ohm rating will work, you just need to get the right plug :)

I recall there was a 1/4 phone plug (mono) for an external speaker however every B&H I encountered had a built in speaker. Given the classroom setting no additional speaker was needed. That said I now years later as an audiophile note the sound was tinny with no bass to speak of but..functionalable.
