Belgian Draft Horse Rescue Ep.7

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Episode 7
We officially own 43 acres and are in the process of starting a farm. My whole life I have always wanted horses but Cory was unsure about having horses. After long conversations, we made a compromise and decided to rescue Belgian Draft Horses.
When we were visiting Ellie and Mabel, the rescue donkeys from Bowie Texas Livestock, they happened to just get in 6 Belgian Draft horses from an Amish farm in Kentucky. This is the start of their journey with Fletcher Farms Amarillo.

At least they weren't purchased by kill buyers. It's so sad that a horse can spend it's entire life working and then getting dumped so kill buyers can buy them and send them to slaughter. I'm glad they were adopted into a good home where they will be taken care of and loved.

If you think this is sad, the things they do to the rest of their "property" (wives and children) would really make you cry. They're also one of the biggest producers of puppy mill puppies in the USA... The Amish cult is a really dark pit of cruelty and despair for those involved, and it is insane folks don't know more about all the pedophillia and animal abuse hidden behind their crosses.

its a waste of money to keep alive and paying for upkeep of health and stuff. if theyre not working day and niht, theyre not worth keeping. theyre work horses for a reason, to work, when they cant anymore, they can sell them for meat. simple. theres no point feeding a machine that doesnt work for you anymore.

I'm so sorry you lost your first mare, that's extraordinary that she lived to her mid-30s after the life of an Amish horse, they are so hard on their horses. Clearly she was loved and well-taken care with you!! I absolutely LOVE both Belgians and Percherons!! Being a life long equestrian, I've often wondered about riding them but they aren't common in the dressage ring! My last horse, my soulmate was a huge 17'.2.5 hh Warmblood who was as big as a draft, even had feathers and dinner plates for hooves! lol But I'm just in love with draft horses, I LOVE that top line, massive round bodies and such sweet loveable faces and personalities. I've wondered how they would be under saddle, they are so calm and seem very safe and level headed, which would be a welcomed change after some of my maniacs!! lol Do they take to be ridden easily? How are their gaits? I would love to rescue a couple of big 'ol retired Belgians or Percherons just as safe pleasure horses or giant companions to spoil rotten and love, my days of competing and nearly killing myself are over but I miss the loving bond. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

La Poetessa they adjust very easily to taking a rider. Biggest thing is making sure you find a saddle to accommodate their width. Also, they don't know leg pressure. But pick up very quickly when you use voice commands which they are use to. Riding is very comfortable! One of our current mares is very flashy and has beautiful movement and is a cute little jumper. The other mare is very "ploddy" but a perfect fit for my husband! They are also very gentle with our grandchildren. Can't say enough good things about these gentle giants.

@@FletcherFarmsAmarilloWe ride western. Western saddles come in draft sizes. They can be pricey. If you can't find a draft saddle, treeless saddles can work also. My daughter uses a soft saddle that has stirrups. Stateline Tack is where she got it from. I had to order bridles and bits on line. Couldn't find them anywhere in our area. Nothing like riding a draft.

The Amish treat their animals like trash. They are known among dog rescuer agencies as keeping the worst puppy pounds with lame and inbred pups that they happily pass onto you through pet stores for top prices. Seems like very little can be done to legislate better care. Having met some of the Amish businessmen (who do not like to discuss the treatment of their animals), I lost my respect for them as a whole. People praise them for their thriftiness, and I can assure you they are all about money. Their cattle practices would make you sick.

I had no idea the Amish treated their animals with such cruel disregard. I’m appalled. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for saving these precious senior horses. I hope they know joy and love in their remaining years. God bless you. Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺.

My first love in life will always be horses! These horse rescue videos bring me so much joy to watch, though I can't help the tears to think of any creatures living less than their best lives. These big beauties worked so hard for so long that they deserve to take it easy, eat and sleep and roll in the grass. When I think of everything that humans have been able to accomplish during our short time on this planet, we really do owe a hell of a lot to the Honorable Horse.
