Belgian Draft horse and 2 day old foal saved from almost being shipped to slaughter update - Ep.59

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

On April 15th, I came across a post on Facebook from Sexton Horse and Mule in Sneedsville, TN where we rescued Freya from. There was a mare that just dropped a foal not 24 hours before I saw the post and they are both scheduled to be shipped to slaughter on the next truck. We secured a home for these two precious lives and along with your support we saved them from being shipped to slaughter!
When we started this channel, Mark a retired Army veteran, reached out to me wanting to adopt one of our horses. Our horses that we have are special needs, most with medical conditions and are not available for adoption. I promised Mark I would help him find a pasture pal for his horse Calvin. Mark purchased 26 acres in southern Illinois and wants to help our cause by saving more of these horses from going to slaughter. Mark agreed to adopt both Mom and baby and provide the perfect life for these two with his horse, Calvin who will finally have a pasture pal.
Mark and Calvin were excited to welcome the mare and foul to their farm. This is an update on how they are doing after being saved. Our foundation arranged for the mare and foal to be picked up the next day on April 16th from the kill pen and they were transported 430 miles to Mark's farm. The following week we had a vet (Dr. Beasley) go to Mark's farm to give them both a complete check up. Sky and Daisy are doing well and we could not have saved these two without your support! We can't thank you enough!

If you are new to our channel we started the Big Hoof Foundation, a 501c3 non profit organization to save more of this lives from going to slaughter. I could not let a mom and not even 24 hour old baby be shipped to slaughter. They deserve a chance at life and for a happy home.
Please consider making a tax deductible donation to the Big Hoof Foundation to help us save more of these precious lives. We have a temporary page set up on the Fletcher Farms Amarillo website until we can complete the foundations website.

Thank you to everyone that has sent us gifts of Alfa Pro, we truly appreciate your support and can't thank you enough!
The one item WE always need is FEED! If you would like to send a gift/donation of feed (Alfa Pro, hay, etc) to the horses you can send that through our local feed store, HF & C Amarillo.
HF&C Amarillo has offered to help us with anyone wanting to send a gift/donation of Alfa-Pro to the horses. When you call, tell them you are sending a gift to Fletcher Farms Amarillo and they will add the gifts to our account. Alfa-Pro is $17.45 per bag. They do offer a discount if you purchase per pallet (40 - 50 pound bags) $16.95 per bag by the pallet. WE go through about 3-1/2 bags per day to feed all 13 horses (175 pounds per day). We also purchase square bales of coastal hay from HF&C. We use 2-1/2 bales per day to feed all the horses. Square bales of hay are $16.75 each.
Thank you to all of our subscribers and followers for your support, for your kindness and generosity! We are grateful for everything and don't know what we would do without you!

I live not far from the horse slaughter plant, here in Alberta. It is not a make believe place. There is also a gigantic farm, attached and owned by the same people , where they fatten the horses... thousands and thousands of the most beautiful quiet gentle horses youd ever imagine... You cant imagine it, until you see it for your own eyes. I had to deliver a super b of oats.. and told my boss id never ever go back there.... I have never gotten over it... seeing them all... knowing the fate that awaited them... no horse deserves that. Keep saving the horses... these horrid places are very real. Thank you for saving these two. Beautiful xx

You need to watch Horse Plus Humane Society..they are in Tennessee and go to auctions every month to rescue horses bound mainly for the slaughter pipeline..the recognise the kill buyers who try and push up the prices so they can't rescue as many. You'd be shocked and heartbroken by the state of some of them..injuries..starved..blind..but they will still get them even if the only thing they can do is to give them that last act of kindness which should have been done ages ago by the owner..but they didn't want to spend any more money on them so chose to send them to auction who then get bounced crom one to another before theyre purchased..I force myself to watch it..those beautiful animals need my respect an apology as a human..

The Amish work them hard and send them to slaughter buying younger stock. The horses’ hooves are often in crippling condition from lack of care. The Amish in Pennsylvania are well known for use and discarding farm animals--how do I know this? Numerous video and the Amish are quite frank about their use, including neglect, and discarding of animals, given to them by their deity to serve their purposes. The Amish markets sell everything from metal sheds to tropical oranges, very little is made by Amish hands.

For those that doubt, Quebec alone documented over 110k horses slaughters last year. Alberta isnt required to report. Horses flow up from the USA and down through the states being dumped at auction and traded for fresher stock to Mexico. The bill has not been enacted to stop live export and Canadians are trying to push better standards to reject most that clear. No idea why the industry is allowed risking a billion $$ industry for breeding, training and racing. The really sad thing is that over a million pounds of horse meat in 2022 got sold to one state there. Look it up...

The wild horse/donkey roundups are absolutely despicable! All motivated by greed. The BLM is totally in the back pocket of the livestock ranchers! They won't cooperate with those organizations (like the AWHC) who are working on alternatives, such as fertility control, to effectively manage the wild horse population. Thank you for your interest in and dedication to helping the wild equines!

It certainly appears a lush and fruitful environment Julie. Oh’ how lovely it has all turned out to be Julie… with special thanks to all that participated in this endeavour. Hey’ Julie, please try to ignore the negative (potentially very hurtful) comments. There’s always those whose aim it is appears - is to ‘put people down’ and spoil a beautiful thing. It may be very difficult Julie, but please access a process of ignoring those comments - and forgiving them also. It amazes me how many people don't think pregnant or just born horses don't go to slaughter. There are many! I follow HPHS and they rescue as many horses as they can at the auction each month, one of the horses they rescued just had a colt, and another one they rescued was also pregnant. In 2022 19,989 horses were sent to slaughter 16,362 of them went to Mexico alone. The numbers are slowing down from years ago but still way too high. Thank you, Fletcher Farms, for your efforts in rescuing :) Well wishes to Wilson

On viewing this video again, I heard about the criticism some people had about your "call out" for help to save the mare and foal at auction. I'd like to also answer those critics with you! Most people in this country are not aware that meat markets in Europe, Asia, some Slavic countries, Mexico and South America, to name a few, slaughter horses for human consumption! These markets, similar to those for cattle, prefer to get relatively healthy, fat animals for their meat and by-products. I live in WV and VA, and have seen trucks full of horses on interstate highways transporting them to slaughter. To see these docile animals going quietly to their fate touches my heart always! I remember one time taking note of a pinto colored pony tied right at the back door, maybe 2 ft. from the open doorway,; if he'd stepped wrong he'd have fallen out on the highway from the vehicle going 65 mph. He was an older guy, kind of sway back, but a beautifully marked brown and white. At the time I thought, "There goes a much loved child's pony, not needed anymore." A heart breaking sight, to say the least!

So happy to hear about Dr.Beasly coming and helping you out. He's coming to my place in 2wks. I don't feel like I really know him. Knew his father but hearing how he came to help this more and baby does make me feel like he's the kind of vet I want to be associated with. Thankyou Fletcher Farms and DrBeasley

I find it amazing that we, as human's have the ability to recognise horrible and tragic situations and be able to feel empathy and compassion and work together as a team, ( friend's, businesses and complete strangers) and with love, work towards a common goal and achieve such a beautiful outcome for these majestic animals.❤❤ Great job everyone. It is also just as amazing that so many of us, as humans, can not or do not share these same feeling's towards our fellow man. 🤔

You are probably getting advice from everywhere about Wilson. I have a chihuahua who suddenly developed itchy skin, red from scratching which caused a staph infection and she began vomiting. The first vet said she had an overactive immune system and started her on an immunosuppressant. This went on for a couple of years. I had her on Tru Dog dog food. She just got worse. I went to another vet who said she had developed an allergy to beef and chicken. We switched her to salmon dog food but she only liked fresh salmon so switched her to duck dog food. Problem solved. She is on no meds now and only vomits around the time she gets her flea, tick, and heartworm meds once a month. And then only a little bit. She is almost 10 years old, so I was surprised she developed the allergy later in life.

How f- ing awwwwwsome. And to all those who donated you all just as awwwwwsome too. We saw the fear in her eyes. 😢But when she went to running about 😲 & yea🙂. And to eat, EAT how much/ when she wants & get good nutrients for herself & her baby it won't be long before her fear will go away. She'll sense shes safe. Thank you Mark ❣️ And the meet up with the pal pasture. That'll be a big huge help & I saw how well & healthy he looked. And to all the transport/ background people involved you all did super🥰 & shows how you all love on them HORSES 🐴& for the haters 🤬💩poop on them.

Thank you and thank Mark soooooo much for not allowing this baby and mom to go to on a double decker to slaughter! I had tears of happiness and relief watching this. You are amazing what you can do on the spot when you set your mind to it. I think the baby should be named Julie or Mark depending on if a boy or a girl since you both saved its life. I was a bit nervous with those two dogs getting so close to the baby. That was too close for comfort for me. Dogs naturally like to chase horses... Wonderful to see Mark petting the baby. She knows about nothing bad in the world and it is wonderful to see Mark building her trust. I think it is her? LOVE all the pictures Mark sent. Julie and Mark are saints and there is a special place in heaven for them. Thank you both so much for opening your hearts to this mom and newborn foal who were in such a desperate situation with no time to spare. Baby is just starting her life in the world and got very, very, very lucky!! Thank God!!!

Looking at this mama and her beautiful foal makes me want to cry thinking that they both almost went to slaughter! What a crime that would have been, but this goes on every single day in America, horses wild and domestic, young and old, healthy and sick ones are being sold for slaughter to Mexico and Canada and not forgetting that donkey, mules and wild borrow’s face the same fait which makes me so terribly sad! Thank you for all that you are doing, saving some of those precious life’s, I appreciate it so very much!!! 💔💔💔

"shes got plenty of milk" somehow I doubt she'd have it for much longer, the foal is so skinny from the mare not getting the proper nutrition for a long time how awful.. plus she's stressed, I'm so glad you guys helped her. It looks like they're going to do great in their new home, it's a great thing you've all done.

Slaughter houses are way too real. And, there are far too many people that send horses there once they have used them up or just don't like them for some reason. Sometimes just a mean person, sometimes for vengeance against someone. Crazy reasons. Thank you for saving the ones you can.

It really makes me wonder about people who would send a heavily pregnant mare to auction, knowing it would most likely end up at slaughter! Who does this? Apparently a lot of “horse people”. So great you were able to rescue them!

You and your husband are truly kind hearted and pure soulful individuals. Please do NOT listen or even respond to people who have anything negative to say about the work you do to save the Beautiful horses you have saved. You owe no explanation them whatsoever. They should look up facts before sharing their unfounded opinions. Everyone should praise you for the HARD labor, love, compassion and emotional turmoil you deal with on a daily basis. Keep up the wonderful great work you do. This world needs more loving individuals like yourselves in this world. Keep the love flowing . Always be positive , forget the negative naysayers.
