Belgian Cenotaph Parade: London 2023.

Ойын-сауық

This years Belgian Cenotaph Parade held in London on Saturday 15th July 2023.
The parade was lead this year by The Band of The Scots Guards.
Have copied and pasted the information regarding this parade from my video last year.
"Due to the death of his nephew, King Albert 1of Belgium and in recognition of of the heroism and sacrifice of the Belgian army in the First World War, King George V of Great Britain bestowed a unique honour on the Belgians, never given to any other non-Commonwealth country, that of a yearly parade at the Cenotaph in Whitehall. Allowing their troops to parade through central London in uniform and carrying arms.
The parade started at the Cenotaph where there was a remembrance service and wreath laying, they then marched down Whitehall into Horse Guards Parade and then down Birdcage Walk to finish at Wellington Barracks."

Thank you very much for naming the marches again Delvin, much appreciated. I do not know the tune at 20:57 if anyone can name it that would be great, the one at 23:58 is Supreme Sacrifice and 24:56 is a piece called Solemn Melody.

The march played at the beginning of the march past and elsewhere during the ceremony is the Marche de l'Ecole Royale Militaire Belge - Mars van de Koninklijke Militaire Academie Belgie - March of the Belgian Royal Military School. The students of that school are seen wearing the blue uniform with the shako and white plumes. They are the future officers of the Belgian armed forces.

@@vickyRoyalHistory Like a combination of Sandhurst and West Point, as they provide university level degrees. If you'd like to see more of them, the Belgian national day is on 21st July (Friday). There is a military and civil forces parade (police , fire, etc) in the presence of the Belgian royal family. Videos will certainly be posted on KZread.

His eldest son was due to go into the Army this year, it would be wonderful if he went into the Academy. I've asked him for any links to the Armed Forces Web Pages, so hopefully I'll get some info for upcoming events.

Thankyou for this great music video, and your information with respect to the historical significance of this annual ceremony. My grandfather, Byron Wilson, and his good friend, Hector Ovide Fillion, were members of the Governor General's Foot Guards (GGFG), in Ottawa, CANADA. They with others of the GGFG enlisted with the 2nd Battalion (Eastern Ontario Regiment), Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF). My grandfather celebrated his 20th birthday in October 1914 on board ship going over and came home in 1919. His friend Hector Ovide Fillion was killed in action April 22, 1915 at Ypres (Ieper), BELGIUM. His name is inscribed on a panel at the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing. I posted a photo of Private Hector Ovide Fillion, (1889-1915), to his Find-A-Grave Memorial, please visit. The Battle Honours of the 2nd Battalion CEF are perpetuated by the GGFG. The GGFG are affiliated with the Coldstream Guards, and their dress uniforms are also buttons in twos with a red plume. Regards from London, Ontario, CANADA

The Belgium sense for pomp had really been spiced up in the last 3 years. It used to be almost painfull to watch, even at our National Day. But now that the Royal military academy is parading in ceremonial atire, everything is so more pleasing to the eye. It could be that our King and his childeren have greatly improved the sense of pride the academy and our army has.

As they have taken care of our fallen from the past its fitting that we show respect to their fallen too. Pity that some disrespected it tho by yapping during the wreath ceremony but thats one of the downsides of having a successful tourist industry i guess. Some good marching tunes they have to march to. Loved the music and marching from horseguards back to welington barracks.

I remember watching this Parade last year, this years was just as good. I'm not sure what the ones who marched directly behind the Scots Guards Band were, but their Uniforms are beautiful, the Feathered Head Dress is very Regal but the Uniforms, especially the Women's one is really very Ornate. It gave me the feeling that this could be the Ceremonial Uniform of the Royal Guard, the equivalent of our own Household Divn. guarding the Palaces of the Belgian Royals. I don't know if the Spectators at the Cenotaph were English or Belgian, but the constant twittering of whoever it was during the Wreath Laying Ceremony was as annoying as it was Disrespectful. This entire Parade carries with it all the Gravitas of our Remembrance Day & deserved far more Respect than was Shown. As always the Band of the Scots Guard did a terrific Job & made us all Proud. What on earth is going on at Wellington Barracks? Tents, Marquees & Gazebos everywhere & what looks like Big Screens for projections. It made the end of the Parade rather confused, no one seemed to know what was happening or where to go. A bit Embarrassing to leave visiting Military standing on the Road & with a Police van blocking the last gateway to the Barracks. Obviously some people never got the Memo. Another really good video Mr B! I really enjoyed it, if that's the right words to use. I'm constantly amazed that you know where to go to get the best footage available. Thank you!!

You are refering to cadets from the Royal Military Academy of Belgium. Their gala/dress uniform is indeed quite regal, and the plumage colour relates to the function of said person in the academy; white plumes are reserved for students (future army officers). Additionally, there is no such thing as a household divison (or equivalent) in the Belgian Army. The closest you could come (in terms of ceremonial purposes) would be the two Guides regiments which have their own regimental band.

@@lollysticky Thank you for this info!! They really are beautiful Uniforms. Meadowlands mentioned the Academy. I just made a guess at what they were, they are so ornate I thought maybe they were a Ceremonial Uniform worn by the Royal Guard. Similar to the State Uniform the Cavalry Band wears or that of the Drum Majors for occasions when Royalty are present, such as Trooping the Colour or the Musical Spectacular. I probably didn't make myself very clear sorry. A Military Academy was the last thing I would have thought of for such a beautiful Uniform, my mind turned to Royal Guards straight away, for something so Grand. Sandhurst certainly don't dress their Officer Cadets so fine. I did notice 1 or 2 had Red or Black feathers, I just assumed they were higher Ranks.
