Frank, Belchior is a poet of Brazilian music and this song is called "Old Clothing Colored". In it, the author says: "the present, the mind, the body is different and the past is a garment that no longer fits us." Music invites us to forget the past and live in the present. Belchior challenges us to overcome our past and enjoy life. I'm a fan of Belchior and, for me, he is one of the greatest composers in the history of Brazilian music.

hey there, Frank! you've found it out in the end, but just to confirm: this "Elis" was actually the actress Andréia Horta, in the film biography of Elis Regina made in 2016 (Elis, of course, passed away in 1980). the sound, though, is the original Elis version recorded in her "Falso Brilhante" album (1976).

In the 70's in Brazil, if Elis Regina chose your song for her repertoire, it was the greatest compliment a new artist could receive. She blessed Belchior and welcomed him into the Brazilian canon, basically. Belchior said this was one of the best things that happened in his life (having Elis promote his music and art). SImilar to how Joan Baez was Dylan's "godmother" in the American folk scene in the 60s

I think the video of Elis Regina is from the movie about her life. So the person you've seen is Andreia Horta, the actress interpreting the singer. She did it perfectly, making all the faces Elis used to do!

About Belchior, the last years of his life were lived almost as an anonymous person. At a certain point in his life he left everything here in Brazil and went to live in Uruguay, but things ended up not going very well there, which made him return to Brazil. There are reports that in his last days in Uruguay he even slept under a bridge. Back in Brazil he remained quite reclusive, avoiding the media and most invitations for new performances.

So, Frank, speaking for myself....I suggested this song to you every since you started to react to Elis Regina (so, you didn't even know who was Belchior back then) and I suggested this many many times to you. You have to trust my suggestions my Dud! But let me say, you just did a PERFECT VIDEO REACTION! Reacting to both versions in one video was just perfection...It can't be better than this! For the next one I will suggest again a song from his second album called "Coração Selvagem" (means "Wild heart"), this song was also recorded by ANA CAROLINA, so it would be great if you react to the 2 versions in one video again.

O Belchior foi um gênio da música brasileira. Infelizmente não recebeu reconhecimento em vida. Morreu esquecido. O Brasil é um país que não cultiva a memória, e nem respeita seus talentos.

This is a genial song. Full of playwords. For example: Paul and Poe (McCartney and Edgar Allan Poe) sound similar, and both of the wrote verses about a black bird (Blackbird and The Raven). And we have in Brazil a regional song named Assum Preto (Black Assum), also named "Passo Preto" (a northest variation of Black Bird). So Belchior mix three poetic texts to talk about the past and the needness to go on, to the future. The song say we need to leave the past behind, like the girl in "She's leaving home" (by Beatles) and be like a rolling stone: forgetting the old way of living: running in a car, with a girl, chewing gum, listening songs on the radio, make V with your fingers (a hippie gesture), cause the past is like old clothe, that doesn't fit us anymore. "Raven Never" is a quote of Edgar Allan Poe (the Raven in the poem The Raven say to the man: Never more) So, it's an acid, ironic, realistic song, like a bitter pill to be swallowed. Most of the Belchior songs are this way.
