The solution here is extreme. But that is okay for a video. It is good way to shake the audience. But in general, is there a good reasión why you should want to surround yourself with "ugly" people ? Some examples of the tags: Beeing fat goes hand in hand with an eating disorder and psychological problems. Beeing divorced can have its good reasons. Beeing a retard can be really dangerous for everybody arround him. I don't think you should punish those people. Many of them deseve help. But still you should really take some properties as a warning flag and ask yourself if it is good for your health to keep them close by.

Honestly, I think this is my first time learning what Dystopian genre was. When I was younger, I was recommended these Dystopian-based videos, but I never 100% understood them. As I grew older, I understand what the story is and what the citizens of Autodale are dealing with. However, I want to say thank you David for creating this Dystopian-based story (I slowly but surely started to love and understand it) and your hard work put to this. One piece that I find interesting is that the roads are built on top of the graves, meaning that Autodale is literally built on the premise of getting rid of “uglys”

Thats not what it means :( Obviously you are free to interpret it as you wish, but its not quite so straightforward as just being unattractive. DrHeavenly Theres HUNDREDS of copies of this joke. At this point its lost all comedic value. Its not funny in the first place when the creator spends so long crafting these magnificent videos and such interesting lore and people make jokes about it. The jokes arent even the worst part, its the fact that you take something out of context. It doesnt even MEAN attractiveness, yet everyone makes jokes that it does. It takes away from the effort that the creator put in. He even addressed this in his process video, how alot of people misunderstood his take on the 'uglies'. They are also just silly jokes that target people with poor self esteem. I remember seeing my older brother watching this and hearing it playing in the background as I played with something I don't remember what, just that I was playing. I remembered there was meaning behind it but not knowing what it was, and acting like I knew. It felt like a life time ago when I seen it, I didn't remember it just the feeling. I could feel it but not understand it. Now so much time later so late at night I have gone down the rabbit hole and now I have come to it.

It's not that far off. At least in Austria, a first world country on Europe, you are still given the look for being unemployed, no matter the reason. We have a whole "industry" tending to those "unfit for work" to make them "fit" - even if they are unemployed, because there are no jobs. It's even worse in Japan.

this is why i love fictional dystopian stories. the giver, the maze runner, this short film, they all give a sense of totalitarianism and it's so interesting to me because of the manipulation that the higher ups conduct... it's so disheartening and the sheer horror is terrifying to me it's like a computer system, these people are all assigned a task, and they HAVE to do that task, and if not then somethings off. so: elimination and then people won't care because they're taught that it's okay to have someone else that's not in line being eliminated and then people forget and it's normal ah yes, the manipulation of the masses, classic dystopian stories. it's so cool but so horrifying

I remember my brother showed me this a while ago and now I’m obsessed with the Autodale series

I remember watching this when I was younger and just thinking of it as a bit creepy but I had just remembered this video and decided to rewatch and now I can actually see the meanings

This is a very powerful piece I love it. If I were to criticise it at all, it would be to say I think it would have been WAY more impactful if he final mask shown was the "OLD" one and it held a little longer before panning out. I think that would have hit like a goddamn frate train! we all become "ugly" in this world no matter what sort of thing. That said, it's purely a personal preference and does not detract from how brilliant this film is. Now If you'l excuse me, I've just noticed theres a full autodale series over there that I have to binge right now lol. Thank you for this @dead sound

Rencrab um, no. Being ugly or pretty does not matter in this dystopia. 'uglies' does not mean ugly. Its the word they use for anyone that does not fit into their idea of perfection. People who are disfigured, or crippled may be killed, but not people who are deemed 'unattractive'. Thats the whole idea, the creator even touched on this in his creation prpcess video.
